CA Smog with Corksport Air Box?

Got first smog coming up (California). I know the Corksport Stage II intake is CARB legal but has anyone passed visual with the Corksport cold airbox on?

tegxsi 11-17-2015 04:19 PM

Just leave the lid off so the smog tech can easily see the CARB EO#

Gayer than Liberace.

No carb # on the intake. Just the paper work for CARB approval:
http://arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermkt/de...eo/D-683-2.pdf

It doesn't say anything about the airbox.
Was curious if anyone had smogged with it on without issue.

Maybe you have an older version... I remember mines had the CARB EO# etched on the side of the MAF housing.
A box is just box...more of a heat shield

Edit: It really depends on your smog tech...some are cool and some are dicks about mods.

I'm about to get my Stage II SRI from Corksport and along side of it I was going to get an airbox, but talking to Corksport they said they don't offer a box for this type of intake.

How important is an airbox (besides keeping heat/moisture out). Is there even an airbox that will fit this SRI?

Other than the reasons listed above it adds a more stock look to the engine bay. The CS one is the only on that i know of that fits.

I think they discontinued it due to fitment issues...

On mine the lid slightly rubs on the stock BPV.

Yeah, They stopped selling them.

If you really want one, you have to wait until one get posted for sale.

Yeah that's what they were telling me, I was thinking about getting the COBB box and modifying it as needed to make it fit... but that's a gamble move. maybe i'll just bust out a welder and fabricate a box out a thing grade sheet metal.

I appreciate the info though!

So I took the the airbox lid off to take a look and realized that you're right it does have the carb# on it *facepalm*

I know a guy close to me. He doesn't care about visual. He says if it passes it passes. Check engine light smog cost extra $$$ to pass.

Well here in P.R. they don't look for that on inspection. Laws here are not that strict like in California. I have corksport air box modified to fit jbr intake and it looks decent. Airbox keeps the intake air a little cooler than not having it.

Cobb air box is totally different than corksport, they way the intake couples to the box is totally different. You are better of building one on your own or buy this one and modify it:

Mazda 3 SkyActiv Cold Air Box | SkyActiv Cold Air Box
I had to modify mine and it worked, just made the whole on the side bigger in the order for the intake angle to fit. Try it maybe it will work for you.

I was planning to do something similar to that.

CARB sucks, I used to hate stocking out to get inspected when I lived in Santa Rosa. Now I'm back on the east coast enjoying the absence of the libtard, prius driving jackass mentality laws.

Yeah man... I just got back to Cali from NC in dec 2014. Already hating the hassle but trying to push the envelope as far as it will let me.
