Default Can I run DP without...

Can I run a COBB DP without a tune or FP internals? I know I'll prolly get a CEL but will the car just not run right period? Check sig for current mods... I just want more loudness

I had a CPE catless DP on without a tune for quite a while and never had a CEL. COBB DP has a place for both O2 sensors right?

It can be done, but is also risky just bc of your fp especially without an ap to monitor it

I would not do a DP on the stock tune/ stock fp.

You can go with a DP and no tune. Just make sure to monitor and get a tune down the road.

I would not run a DP without upgraded fuelpump/internals. Especially since you have no monitoring solution.

If you want more "loudness", delete a resonator.

You could very well be maxing out your stock FP as it is, since the stock tune runs rich as hell. Get an AP, then FP internals, then DP.

Most of the early blown MS3's were because of shitty tunes, or all the bolt-ons with no monitoring/tune.

Agreed. I forgot to mention I had DH to monitor my fuel pressure. Never had a problem but ultimately got tuned. I think I stared at my DH more than my speedometer.

Like they said, you can do it if you'd like. I for one got the care with the dp on so im going easy on it till i can get the money for internals. Once I get the money to get the internals, I will then get the AP

If you want internals KMD sells them for a pretty good price (half the price of Cp-e)

Gen 1 vs Gen 2 in this situation may have had different conclusions but ask most Gen 2 guys and you'll be told what everyone else has said. Get your FP upgraded with internals or full pump replacement, get a monitoring tool and then go to town. Sticky this so all nubs know. This is the definitive answer amongst the Gen 2 community as far as Ive seen. Why would you risk blowing your motor for a small cost. If youre gonna mod, do it right and make your engine last.

Do it right, trust these guys on the forum. I joined this forum to learn from their experiences.

I never had a direct injected car before and it is different, the fuel pressure is crazy high for a reason and must stay that way.

You my friend are a buffoon. Get a tune = safe and your $20,000 car won't blow the fuck up.

Don't get a tune or internals and get a DP = your car might blow the fuck up. But hey if you have $20,000 hanging around than I would say go for it tiger!

In this order buy..

1. AP
2. FP Internals
3. Oil Catch can
4. DP or IC

with the AP, you can get your fueling/boost/load sorted out, get rid of the 1st/ 2nd gear restrictions, monitor everything on the car. Right now you have no idea what your car is doing, where as I know I will be at ~17 psi, afr 11.7, very minor knock ( 2>KR), etc etc... on every run. Consistency is key.

@NinjaT1985

As a local who doesn not want to see your shit blow up, I would advise(like most others) against getting the DP.

You may remember when we met up I told you when I bought my car it had SRI, TP, DP etc. First thing I did was take the DP off the car since i had no fuel pump internals and the car ran BETTER with the stock DP in place. That tells me (before I had ap I could only guess) that my FP was likely dropping and decreasing performance, not to mention leaving black shit all over the hatch and rear bumper. (due to fuel pressure dropping and ecu trying to compensate)

If you are just looking to be louder, I would not sacrifice performance over sound and most importantly the life of your motor. I can pretty much guarantee if you add the DP your pump will not be able to keep up. So the decision is yours. Good luck man hope you make the right choice.

I've been running a turboxs dp with ots tune and no fp internals and my car runs perfectly fine. I do watch my fuel pressure like a hawk on my ap though and its stayed in the 1700s. Guess I just got lucky with a new pump...

But I am ordering new internals next week to prepare for my bt build.

Listen to these guys though. I was risky with my build so far and have gotten lucky, I have read many horror stories about zoom zoom boom. Do it right the first time and go ap, fp internals, dp.

-EDIT- Did not realize you had a genpu. DO NOT do anything until you upgrade your internals. The fuel pump on the genpus are especially prone to fail early.

A simple search would have yielded similar comments as you see above, at which point you should be worried enough about blowing to invest in fp internals... cheap insurance and piece of mīnd when you think about how much an engine costs

ok so no DP for me... I'm not doing all that. Changing FP internals and $500+ for AP. I guess I'm done with engine mods if this is all I can do without going through all that. On to more suspension...

Thanks for those of you who aren't assholes and actually want to help... and offer good advice. Maybe I'll spring for the Hypertech eventually, a lot less and I'm sure I'd be happy with an OTS tune

Like someone above said, it's your car so you will ultimately do as you see fit. However, a HT is still a 'Tune' and you can get the same (and better results with an Accessport). You don't have to buy all this stuff at once or even pay full price. Troll the for sale threads for a used AP and get some FP internals. Those 2 items = about $750 dollars worth of safe reliable data-loggable power. And FWIW, I didn't do the DP until the very end either and was happy with the existing power for quite a few months before I finally installed it.

Either way, good luck with your modding decisions.

It's not that I didn't read what I wanted to. I guess it kinda gets on my nerves that Mazda knew that enthusiasts were going to "mod" this car and yet they went cheap on the some of the most important parts that make modding possible. I know its to be "cost effective" and such and that is why these cars are very reasonably priced for what you get... but still
