Could have bought a gti and would have needed a fuel pump to make less power. Have to pay to play.

DP will throw a CEL, regardless of what fuel pump you're running. When you have an upgraded downpipe installed, logged fuel pressure dropping under 1600 psi is your main concern. The Gen2's ECU logic causes fuel pressure to drop even more if it dips under 1600 psi. When at WOT, you ideally want fuel pressure to hold at 1700-1800 psi. Some people's fuel pumps are able to hold on with full bolt-ons, while others give out early in the mod process.

Not all gen2 DP's throw CEL's. I have a Cobb DP and zero CEL issues.

i have been on this forum for less than 2 months and i knew the answer to this question as soon as i read the title. there is a thread that talks about it being dangerous to run a test pipe and intake on stock tune and cdfp. why would a downpipe be ok? the people that tell you it will be ok are the srt4 drivers that run blow off valves and pvc intakes

I stand corrected. DPs may or may not trigger CELs, but they are, more often than not, related to catalytic inefficiency, unplugged sensor harnesses, and the secondary O2 being too far out of the exhaust stream. I've never heard of a HPFP-related CEL with a new DP.

Right, pretty much any catless DP will throw CEL's on a gen2. The only 2 DP's that I've heard of not throwing CEL's are Cobb and cp-e, which also happen to be the 2 most expensive.

Just curious, are you running a map based on a COBB Stage2 map? I believe their OTS Stage2 maps have the "inefficient catalytic converter" CEL disabled by default, so that might be the reason you're not seeing a CEL.

With the price you pay for them, I would hope that the COBB and CP-e DPs would be CEL free though, without having to disable it via ATR.

I am running the stage2 OTS map, but I ran it for a few hours with only the stage1 map right after installing the DP and I still got no CELs

I see, COBB definitely made a good piece then. I wonder if the secondary O2 bung location is a major factor in whether or not the ECU will throw the "innefective cat" CEL, or if it's the product of a higher-flowing cat by itself. I have the CEL disabled on my setup, because supposedly the CEL will show up on cold starts occasionally.

I've never hit fuel cut and I've got a dp and Hypertech tune. No cel either....

You'll probably do it eventually anyway....just buy the stuff all at once vs 3 separate times and maybe your gf won't be so mad.

You'll probably do it eventually anyway....just buy the stuff all at once vs 3 separate times and maybe your gf won't be so mad.
you right... I found the HP for $347 shipped. Now I know that there is not as much to it as an AP but honestly. I don't know a lot about that stuff so the less I can mess up the better lol. Hypertech seems to allow just enough tuning without the chance of the user messing anything up.

Is that the version that comes with the stickers that yield 15whp?

Thanks for those of you who aren't assholes and actually want to help... and offer good advice. Maybe I'll spring for the Hypertech eventually, a lot less and I'm sure I'd be happy with an OTS tune
HT isn't the solution, jackass. The comments above still apply. If you go DP and HT its the same effect, you most likely will need pump internals.
