First rule of anything court related is get a lawyer. Don't even bother trying to fight it unless you have a lawyer. At least consult a lawyer.

I'll second that you should hire/consult a lawer. I had a crazy ticket once too. I mean it was over the top ticket. With a lawer, the whole ticket was dropped. When you get crazy ass ticket that's out of norm, it may help you, especially when you don't have bad driving records.

Even if you drove like a dick, I can't see how this ticket can stick to you since the cop that "witnessed" your driving didn't give you the ticket. You got it from someone else. There is too much fallacy in the story.

Even if you go to the court, I would assume that both of them have to show up. One that issue the ticket, and one that "witnessed" your driving. I mean how can the cop that issued you ticket defend himself or ticket when he has not witnessed it? He can't go arresting other people based on "someone else said so."

I'm no lawer, but going with "I gave him a ticket because some else said so" doesn't seem very valid. Our court system would fail hardcore, if this was the case. This isn't partent/child argument of "because I said so."

Logically it doesn't make sense to me, but lawer will help out big time.

I tell him who knows, maybe he hates people from NY( I had NY plates), but I was too afraid to find out especially when I tried to move over when he was tailgating me. Judge didn't buy that bullshit, gave me a $400 ticket. So after he tells me what I won, I say, well if you say that I should pay for driving reckless, shouldnt he get one too since he gave a statement saying he followed me for x amount of miles? Yeah that shit didnt work either lol. So my point is....it dont matter, youre gonna be donating to the municipality anyways. But good luck to you. Keep us updated.

I've had a run in with 2 off duty cops here in the burbs of chicago. First time was about a year ago when a woman was tailing my ass in her Expedition, and I was already doing 10mph over the speed limit. So when she decided to pass me, I kept pace to prevent it. Caught a light and I made damn sure she wasn't getting ahead of me. It was at this point she decided to "try" giving chase. Now, this is a 4 lane road (2 lanes either way) with a speed limit of 45. I busted over 100 a few times and both times this bitch was trying to keep up. Finally slowed down as I was nearing my light to turn right, she pulls up next to me flashing her badge telling me to stop screwing around. I told her to practice what she preaches and just stared at her as she was stewing. Right before I turned I winked at her and hauled ass around the turn.

Second time was about 6 months ago, same shit as the first. Dude in a focus tailing the shit out of me, and I mean on my bumper. Whips around me so I laid into it and mouthed "f**k you" to the guy, well that sent him over the edge. He started hanging out the window, yelling his head off at me and started swerving towards me. So I got infront of him saluting him through the rear view mirror. He ended up next to me again flashing his badge telling me to "knock it off". Im like really, you're the one going all road rage on me, so I just downshifted and took off. He tried at first, but then he backed off. I am so sick and tired of these douchebags who think they are above the law.

OP: The cop wont get a ticket. Period. He was "Within the scope of his duty". Get a lawyer, a lawyer will save your as but cost $$. Once you get a lawyer shit changes. The court realizes you fully intend on fighting this ticket and in some cases they may drop it, give you probation to remove the ticket, or make a deal. These cases that goto court are sometimes not economically feasible for the state so they try to downplay them.

Getting a lawyer opens up other doors. This off-duty cop, has he been counciled for obsessive behavior? Has he had persons file reports on his personal file? Has he gotten in trouble for breaking the law to "uphold the law"? These are things your lawyer can ask, and prove if possible.


Lastly: GO DOWN TO THE STATION AND FILE A PERSONAL COMPLAINT AGAINST THE OFFICER FOR CALLING YOUR HOUSE!!!!! That will stay in his personnel file and will prevent him from moving up. In some cases too many complaints can get him fired from the dept.
