Certified pre owned ???'s I recently purchased my 2010 speed3 from gene messer ford in Amarillo, Tx. The car had 13000 miles at the time of purchase, currently at 15500 miles. It was a cpo vehicle and I'm already dealing with some problems. The brakes started squeaking just a few days after purchase. The front dome light pass. side lens just falls out of the fixture, the plastic that the lens clips into is broken. Must've been from p.o. Putting LEDs in at one point. Tpms is constantly on, I've had the tires filled with nitrogen after the light came on the first time. The light came on roughly 100 miles after the nitrogen fill, and the Tpms is always erratic. It doesn't matter hot/cold it's 50/50 that the light will be on. Tires are mismatched. Two are falkens and two stock dunlops. I obviously knew the tires were mismatches at purchase. My question with that is this; I know many companies cpo vehicles must have four matched tires all in good condition. Does Mazda have this requirement? Should my bumper to bumper warranty fix all these issues? I already had the brakes looked at by the service manager and he basically told me tough shit. That it was on me to fix them. What about the other issues? Covered? Yes or no? |
If its certified all the tires must match and be an OE tire. |
That's what I figured, is there a source that you could provide that states that? I digged through mazda's cpo pamphlet and couldn't find anything noting that issue. |
my cpo came with falken ziex wheels |

I found the 150pt inspection PDF file. All four tires must match, I doubt the dealership will do anything to fix that. http://www.cars.com/go/advice/shoppi...inspection.pdf |
Brakes squealing, depends on what is causing the noise. If its pads being low, then no. If LEDs are still in the light assembly, or its obvious someone fucked with it then most likely not. But if its not blatantly obvious, then yes, it should be covered. TPMS yes, if there is no damage to the stems. And for the tires, print out anything that says they must be matching, highlight it and argue your case. If it goes no where, call mazda USA. |
Looks like you did not get it inspected prior to purchase. 2 off tires means probably fronts wore out quicker. 13K, my OEM's were starting to go to shit, and 18K, gone. OG owner could have beaten the piss out of the car, wore out the fronts within 5K, just replaced 2. Would explain shit brakes. I am betting the rear motor mount will have tears to support this. |
Here's a list of items covered by Mazda's CPO program. If the dealer doesnt qualify all of these items, then they can not certify it. A lot of dealers with Certify it anyways but that doesnt change the fact that these items have to be fixed. You can take it back to any Mazda dealer and have them check it out. http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/pdf/...components.pdf My wife and I bought a CPO CX9-GT from Ramsey NJ Mazda and it was supposed to be CPO but the brakes failed when we took it in for inspection here in Albany.. Turns out the rotors were below spec and had to be replaced. If Ramsey Certified this... they would have already had the rotors replaced... but they didnt. Mazda covered all the replacement cost and labor as a result. Have a different Mazda dealer check it out for you. |
It was a Florida car, little chance for winter beating. The pad's are still pretty thick, maybe 1/2 inch just eyeballing it. No LEDs still in the fixtures either. |
I should mention that the car is still covered under the original bumper to bumper till 36000. |

Sure they did. "round tires, check. Starts, check. Cold AC, check. Has brakes, check." They dont care. My GMC Sonoma was CPO and was a complete pile of shit from week 1. Certified don't mean dick. Your POS MS3 is probably getting certified but nobody buying it will know it was modded. Dont Trust Anyone. |
My CPO looked almost brand new when I bought it (25k). It had a new sets of tires and that was the only change from stock. If the dealer sold you a POS CPO they will be paying to fix it. Also my dealer gave me a 12 month-12k mile bumper to bumper which probably covers their ass. |

Btw, I don't trust anyone, that's why I went over everything myself and had them do a 2nd inspection with me watching as well. I only take my car in for warranty issues, anything else like general maintenance I can handle myself. |
Mine looks brand new as well, minus the mismatched tires. I took her in today, had them refill the tires with nitrogen. They also started a work order on an all new dome light, which surprised me that they are covering it. |
When I get one of this mazda Cert RO's my eyes light up like it is Christmas. Cause I know I am about to make some money off these cars. Get paid 2hrs for doing this inspection and this includes a the oil change and state inspection. And that is on top of what else will be found which will normally be the vehicle will have mismatched tires cause they buy these cars from enterprise and they normally only replace what is worn out, they will need new air and cabin filters etc. It just irks me that there are dealerships that are out there that are cutting corners. |
