Check engine / Dealer Service Issue

I had the same thing with mine. I just called Mazda Customer Service and they contacted the dealer for me. If I had a problem I would call them and let them speak with the dealer itself. It was especially fun when I would show up to pick up the car...the service manager was never officially "in". But the look on his face when I walked into his office was priceless.

Soo its been awhile since I updated this thread. I forgot where i left off but basically bought my car 5 months ago, and at 5k miles the check engine light kept coming on. They couldn't diagnose the issue after returning 4 times. Even called the regional speed tech guy in. Blamed it on bad gas, bad coils, bad ecm, etc. Replaced coils and ecm on the 4th visit within the same month. At this point I had contacted Mazda and they were willing to pay $600 for two months worth of car payments since I had been paying for my speed but driving a loaner lame regular 3 for basically the whole month. Fine, pain in the ass but two free car payments out of it. Anyways, I get it back yesterday and the light comes back on. Had papers ready to be filed with the BBB and the AG office. Spoke with managers and they are coming to pick up the speed, drop me off a loaner because i refused to drive back to the dealership for the 5th time in the same month. Manager told me that Mazda doesn't want them to work on the car anymore and is going to initiate some sort of buy back plan to either refund my money or get me a new speed. Not sure if it will be a NEW speed or one with 5k miles on it like mine had. I LOVE this car but after dealing with this headache, not even sure I want another Mazda product. I'm really stuck in a hard place because like I said I love the car, and like its been said, is the fastest, nicest car in my budget. But I seriously cannot deal with something like this happening again.

So, that being said, I want to hear everyone's reaction and also have a few questions.

1. WHAT THE FUCK?
2. Should I get another speed? To be honest id love an evo cause its awd, and like i said i am just sick of.Mazda and this dealership, but its alittle outta my price range
3. If I get another speed should i get it with tech this time? And cwp again? The only tech features I like are the LEDs and keyless entry/start so it seems a lot to pay just for those two but I saw a silver one with tech the other day and imo it looked super sharp with the LEDs

Anywayssss I have more questions and more bitching but I'm at work and doing this on my phone so I'm done for now. Really interested to hear everyone's input and to see how quickly this will be resolved by Mazda.

If so I guess you took it back to stock before going in?

As far as getting another speed 3, I see your hesitation, mine only has 7xx on it right now, hopefully I don't have those problems but I would be reluctant to get another.

Zero mods. Cel codes are for misfires in all four cylinders which I never felt while driving.

I love my speed3 but I don't think I'd get another one. Not because I don't like it but because I like to try different things. You now have the opportunity to try something else if you want to and some cool stuff is coming out soon like the BR-Z and revised Gen Coupe. I have had mine for 2.5 years and 25000 miles, i wouldnt hesitate to get another one, I really do think that you were terribly unfortunate with the repairs/issues. There are lots of people on this site that have owned MS3's with no problems.

Tech? I dont have it and i dont miss it, but it depends entirely on you and how you value the options.

Good Luck, and make sure that the buyback amount is in your favor i.e. you lose less money per month than a comparable lease would have cost, dont let them just pay off your loan or give you retail value for a used car.

Does your GPS have difficulty showing all the street names? Is there an option to have it display all street names? Mine doesn't, only some, even if you zoom in.

This is an unfortunate case. These cars are fucking great, sucks it's been a hassle. FYI, I didn't get the tech package and I'm very happy. It was way cheaper to buy those options myself, and more fun as a project.

They should have given you a new car.. complete BS.

It's also a Volvo dealership so while they are deciding with Mazda what exactly to do they have given me a '12 C30 T5 r-design. Very cool car actually, and not as quick as the ms3 but feels similar on local roads, haven't taken her on the highway yet.

I love C30s, almost bought one when I was shopping for a new car. It was basically between a CPO 2009 c30 manual with like 15k or a brand new ms3 for the same price. No brainer!

Idk if I would pay for the tech package. I didn't have the option when I got my 2012 MS3. I didn't order it, it just showed up at my local dealer. Anyway, the only thing I like from the tech package is the HID's (which are dirt cheap aftermarket), the push-button start, and the tail lights (Corksport sells them....they aren't cheap). I can live without the navigation system because its too small. And I could get a way better stereo system (along with the other stuff) in there for less than the like 3K the tech package costs. Of course everything I just mentioned will void the warranty so take what you will from my advice. I'm not too particular on my warranty. I'm too eager to make my car unnecessarily fast to worry about the warranty .

I seriously considered the tech package because of the headlights (adaptive system is so cool, something aftermarket HIDs can't give you), but in the end that was really the biggest selling point on it for me. That GPS seemed like crap and it's not like I don't have 3 already. So since I was required by my loan company to purchase the extended warranty, in the end I just didn't think it was worth the extra money.

Do seriously consider another Speed though. In the price bracket, they really are the best bang for their buck. I did not find a single car that was better for the same or less money. This statement could change if Nissan really did make a new 240/Silvia (S16?), but that's all hypothetical so go for the reality that we have an awesome little hot hatch here.

no im not a woman. update is they have a brand new car for me but wont give it to me until mazda buys back the lemon from them. should have it this week. they are also reimbursing me for 3 months of car payments. dying to get back in this speed. such a fucking hassle. i wouldnt wish this on my worst enemy.

I went through the EXACT same process as you but with a Ford product(s). I ended up lettin them buy the car back and then I got another one with similar trim, options, etc. I actually got one in a better color (than the one I "sold back"). All I can say is this.... I was very happy with the overall outcome and drove that "2nd" car for quite some time and miles. In other words, don't let this whole situation get you down. It is a royal PITA, but its life and no one at that dealership really wanted any of this to happen. This is my story.

Got back in the saddle today. It was glorious! I got silver this time over the white. Wasnt too impressed by the white, plus the rich blackness that comes out the tail made it such a bitch to keep clean. silver looks great, imo.
worried to do mods now cause i know the whole MMAct but with all that happened i just dont wanna deal with it. We'll see. I do want to get HIDs, yellow fogs, and tints ASAP.
Also, I dont know how it happened but I got no tech package but still got the BOSE system. The white one was also no tech but didnt have BOSE. weird.
anyways, hopefully i have better luck with this one. It has 16 miles on it

I love my silver one, but I'll let you know right now the spots show up just as much on it. Only black doesn't show them.

As for the Bose package-- on the '12.5s everyone gets Bose, non-tech just doesn't get sat. radio or multidisk.

had the check engine light come on as i was driving , went to advance auto parts . had them check it and they said it was a random misfire code . been here waiting at the dealership and haven't gotten anything yet and it's been like an hour and a half almost . waiting to see what they say to me , my car is completely stock with 10471 miles on it and hasn't been modified yet . only been 11 months since i bought the car .

just got the car back and they told me the same (as advance auto parts) , random misfire . they cleaned the carbon from the valves , drove the car and said they light didn't come back on for them . told me if the light came back to go back and drop it off , they'll call mazda to figure out the problem , and put me in a loaner car .

Hey, had the same problem 10k (15,000) miles ago, read my thread please. My mazda dealer ended up swapping the flywheel. I was getting over 100+ random miss fires, and like the op said, nothing happened as far as performance goes. FWIW, the dealer told me they also changed someone's flywheel before me for the same reason.

It was very frustrating because I had to go back to the dealer 4 times... not gonna write the entire story again, but you can read my thread below.

So, I have the OP's original MS3, the one with the misfire issue. Picked her up last June with 7k on the odometer from Palisades Mazda after trading in my regular 3. She's run flawlessly since day 1 and now has 20k - I DID get one P0300 a couple of months ago while merging onto the NYS Thruway at WOT, but I monitored it for a bit, reset the code, and it hasn't happened again. The car had the entire engine bay wiring harness replaced as well as the ECU and the flywheel after the OP traded her in. Supposedly, Mazda Japan got involved in the process and twisted the dealer's arm to get it done. What I'm not clear on is how a flywheel issue can trigger a misfire code.

Palisades Mazda did explain the situation and gave me a real nice deal on it, but it's worked out well and the car is in good hands.

thanks for the information , i read the thread . we'll see how it goes , drove the car today like i usually do and nothing so far . if it comes back on again , might bring this up to there attention . don't want to go through the hassle of not being able to drive my car because it has to spend days at the dealership .
