Sweet.

It makes me wonder where the line gets drawn between "need a new fuel pump" and "your stock fuel pump is fine". Sure every car is different but you would think there's gotta be at least a grey line drawn.

My research leads me to believe that a sri/tip is the line for most without the ability to monitor fuel pressure. The somewhat standard mod list is pretty much RMM, SRI, AP + Internals, and datalogs...before anything else.

If you hit the search button enough I believe you will come to the same conclusion.

Well shit hit the fan and I can't quite get the Red MS3 I've been hoping for. Maybe next year. Thanks for all the advice. I'll keep reading threads and donate closer to purchase time.

I'm now 350whp 400wtq on the SS. So at least that can keep my spirits up.

Ms3 FTW!! Definately respect what the SS T/C brings to the table though. Great bang for buck performance even though the interior sucks

I also had a 09 ss/tc fully bolted. I switched to the ms3 and no regrets what so ever. The cobalt is the cheapest pos inside that i have ever owned.

They are fast and put down good numbers, but i much rather have the nicer ms3 over the cobalts power.

Sorry to hear that. Keep saving. The Cobalt is only going to get worse, fast, as time goes on.

Seems like the consensus is everyone likes the 2.0T Ecotec and hates everything else. To be honest with you your car looks very boring.

Tune: My own (based on the v210 and v231 Cobb OTS maps but ramped way up)

Street creds:
- Fastest known K04/93 MS3/driver with only an AP, CDFP upgrade, intake, and tune | 13.37@106.83mph on stock Dunlops (2.04 sec 60' time, full curb weight, 75*F ambient temp)
- Has gone an indicated 146mph on three occasions now.

Yes I will help you tune your K04/pump gas car; I have much less experience than the major players but I also charge you $0 and can turn you around quickly. 4 satisfied customers and counting...

Yeah dude, I had my hopes up, perhaps too high, so it was quite the slap to the face when life makes your goals harder to obtain. I've been reading and I had this all mapped out of how I was gonna mod etc. *sigh*

Now I just hope I can sell it for a decent amount. I only have 23000 miles on the SS right now. Next year if I can keep the miles down I am hoping to get $12k-$16k and that should be plenty for a down payment on a MS3.

Hey dude, I'm currently working on increasing my post count to reply to your message. I don't wanna make meaningless responses to strain the bandwidth of the forum since I'm not quite yet a paying member. So I'll respond as soon as I can.

But in short, I'm in Colorado, the Mile High State that is a custom tuners nightmare

It appears you guys are a shop that specializes in MS3s and others. If you guys are moving to Colorado, that would be awesome. I for sure will be getting me a MS3 ASAP then lol. All the Cobalt shops are in Michigan, Kentucky etc. East coast.

Colorado has a lot of EVO, VW, Subie, Honda, and muscle car shops. Not much else.

Anyway, I am west of Denver; Wheat Ridge Colorado. Where are you guys going to be. Please don't say Aurora lol

Keeping the miles down will definitely help. We (auto enthusiasts) all know that mileage doesn't mean a whole lot (compared to how well the car was maintained, abused, etc. and how and where it was driven, etc.) But the public at large sees mileage as like the #1 factor in determinig how "good" or "new" or whatever a used car is. Yes, its dumb.

Exactly. The public all they see is the number, but people with even a little bit of mechanical knowledge know I can do a lot more to a car in a few miles than a car that was maintained over its lifetime. Compare a car that's spent its year of life with a teenager with no skills or care beating it for 10,000 miles to a car owned by an old person who drove it with care for ten years and maintained it religiously for all 60k miles; your average buyer and a person with real knowledge and experience will choose the opposite car almost every time.

i drove a cobalt as well and the interior and ride comfort is just garbage compared to the ms3. the ms3 was not my first choice but when i drove it. i felt as if it doesn't brake the bank but at the same time it had get up and go and shit a back seat haha

350whp / 400 tq on stock SS turbo? Doesn't it have the same turbo as the speed 3, but twin scroll?...I knew it could handle higher boost, like 24PSI, but that puts out 350WHP? Damn....Speed3 owners got raped on that one haha.

Well I believe the SS has a Borgwarner K04 and the Speed3 has a Hitachi K04 Hybrid if I remember correctly. Not sure the science between the two, but I am pretty sure they aren't the same.

That said, there's not too many SS/TCs making 350whp on pump gas, they usually have to do that with E85 (high altitude can be done as a daily driver/low altitude people need cams with bigger fuel lobe for the extra pressure) or E47 blends for lower altitude peps.

I, on the other hand am achieving 350whp on 91 octane with a very conservative tune! But not on stock turbo, I have a Precision Turbo Big Wheel upgrade. AKA K04+, it's a stock turbo with a different but bigger compressor wheel in it. It's good for about 30-50whp depending on tuning and more if I choose to go E85 (which I wont). I was at 310whp before this upgrade. It has it's flaws (exhaust side) but it's good for a minor bump.

I like it because it's a direct bolt on, no changes needed and stock tune can run it (not very well) for warranty work.

All the SS people are itching for the EFR direct bolt on, but that's too much power for me and my FWD IMO.

Yea the mrs. SS is right at 310hp on a dynojet 357tq so makes good power for the mods it has.

I apologize for the intrusion on your forums, but I'm really into the new MS3! I love the look and to most it's ugly, but for some reason I think it's sexy. I went and test drove one and fell in love with the interior especially with the tech package! I was literally a heartbeat away from signing away the cobalt and getting the MS3.

Anyway I've done as much research as I can stand and there's only a few more unclosed things I need to figure out before I make effort to getting one.

I'm part of Cobaltss.net and I asked a guy that had an older MS3 and recently got a Cobalt SS/TC if he liked his car. He loved it and recommended it, but stated there's a lot of issues the moment you start adding power. This isn't the case with the Cobalt. He said he blew his piston ring or something like that just cobb tuning it.

Now I can't keep a car stock. It's against my religion lol, but if I get a MS3, am I gonna have these issues by tuning it and adding parts?

Also I hear that the car doesn't like to make it past 60k miles. Is this true?

Also if you guys can give me any advice and other information that'll be extremely helpful.

Thanks all and hopefully, you'll have me as a full member soon.

Respectuflly,

Michael aka Vahdyx

ewww... get a genWON lol. and personally id think you'd be upset with how poorly the k04 performs compared to the SS/TC k04 top end (single scroll vs twin scroll) so you will want that BT upgrade!

If you think MS3 is not quick enough for you let me show you how to get a stock MS3 with only intake and tune into the low 13s @ 106+

ECU tuning specifically for running the 1/4 mile

Not sure if that makes any difference in the Cobalt vs MS3 debate but I'd be interested in what a Cobalt can do with the same very basic mods. Full interior, full tank of gas, stock Dunlops, stock air pressures, no cool down time, spare tire in trunk, 2 baby car seats in back, into a headwind, no tricks, no gimmicks. As far as I know, the Cobalt SS pushes 20psi from the factory stock, while our MS3s push ~15.5psi stock so I think the MS3 can be made quicker than the Cobalt SS for < $1k in mods. My tune only pushes ~18.5psi... stop equating psi with power output, its a dumb comparison. "OH MY COBALT CAN MAKE 24PSI hahahah" doesn't mean shate to me.

Mods (in order of significance): Cobb AccessPort, Autotech CDFP upgrade (thanks Captain KR for your assisstance), Cobb SF SRI Intake, Ultimate Racing cat and resonator-less test pipe, Cobb Turbo Inlet Hose, Cobb Knob, Cobb 300g shifter weight

Very nice! I wonder how it would do with a bone stock exhaust.

Regardless, to anyone thinking trading in a Cobalt SS turbo for a MS3 will be taking a big power loss it just isn't true. Sure the Cobalt might be a smidge faster but we're talking a tenth or two mod for mod. Hardly butt dyno-able. The vastly better interior and refinement more than make up for it. I think we hear so much about how "great" the Cobalt SS's motor is because everything else about the car is meh.

Agree i feel that the gearing in the cobalt helps with hw pulls and rolls. I like the seats but the rest of the car is really cheap. Does come with nice Brembo's though lol. Yea all my cobalt has is a k&n sri/catless dp/tune.
