Default Cobb DP and CBE bought used on CL

I picked up a Cobb downpipe and Cobb CBE used locally from CL tonight. Both look like new condition, came off a 2013 MS3 the guy is putting back to stock. I bought an AP V2 a couple weeks back from the same guy. I have his original receipts from May 2013 for the pipes.

I paid $900 total for both (I was willing to go as high as $400 maybe even $450 on the DP alone as its like new - so in my eyes I got the CBE for $450 or $500). Maybe not the cheapest price for used parts, but for me all things considered, I am pretty happy with it. I was really only wanting to buy the DP but the guy was intent on selling them together...so I went for it.

I was planning on buying either a CPE or CS DP on Black Friday, but even with a good discount the shipping, taxes and exchange to Canada kill you (would be close to $700 Canadian even after a 10 to 15% discount).

So my question is was the Cobb CBE for Gen 2 discontinued simply because of the high price point and therefore they could not sell enough units? Otherwise it is considered a high quality unit?

They've discontinued the genwon CBE as well in the past, I believe it's due to demand.

They took it off the market because of design flaws. Not sure about Genpu's.

genwon had some fitment issues, rubbing and rattling. nothing an exhaust shop couldn't fix but for the price it should be perfect. only reason I didn't get it and went with hks instead.

Yes, as yomyster said, they discontinued the Genone CBE due to a manufacturing error that caused squeaking and clunking issues due to a hanger being mis-welded. The issue has been resolved and they are back out now I believe. Like people have said already for the price they need to be perfect.

But, to answer the OP, Cobb is very good quality and should do you well. IMO the entire Cobb exhaust is still the best sounding system and if there were any issues with the Genpu CBE I believe they have been resolved as well.

We had a local pu owner with mad issues with his first cobb CBE. They had to send him a new after many attempts to "correct" the issue. The amount of fail was ridiculous.

Hopefully the one I got was a much later production run without such issues... It looked and sounded good on the 2013 a couple weeks back when I first checked it out.

DP and CPE going on my car tomorrow, so hoping its all good.

Edit: DP and CBE installed yesterday at local shop. Install and fitment was all good, Sounds and looks great. So far no rattles or any issues.
