Cobb filter vs AEM 21-206DK 2 Attachment(s) Nothing Earth shattering here, but I was looking for "visual" comparison of between the Cobb blue oiled filter, and the AEM 21-206DK last week when I ordered it, but couldn't find it. It came in today and a wanted to share these pics. |
Dry flow>oiled |
There really isn't any comparison here at all. AEM Dryflow > Cobb Oiled filter any day of the week. Oiled filters tend to collect more shit and that shit gets stuck to the filter |

I think the biggest issue is if you wash it and re-oil it. If you put too much, you're going to have a bad time. |
that is why I don't re oil it 70,000m no issues.... |
just giving you guys heads up, I dk how many cars I have diagnosed funky idle and stalling out due to a dirty maf and dirty throttle body. |
I just switched to the AEM dryflow filter myself. I was kind of shocked at the size difference, or what seemed to be a big difference. Fits well though, and I notice a more consistent acceleration, and who knows how long it was since my Cobb filter had been oiled. I'm the third owner and that damn thing was white as semen. |
does anyone know if the AEM filter will fit with the cobb airbox? edit: just realised this was posted in the gen2 forums. was asking about gen1 airbox if anyone could comment. |

1 Attachment(s) FYI, I ran a K&N oiled filter for 20,000 miles and I had absolutely no issues. I didn't clean my MAF once. Car ran solid the whole time. I recently upgraded to a JBR power path stage 2 and when I replaced the K&N intake and htp tip I checked for oil residue and dirty build up (checked MAF, intake, inlet and turbo) and did not find any. Here's a picture of my turbo I took a week ago when I was swapping intakes. Turbo has 42000 miles on it most of those miles were with a K&N, as you can see that shit is clean. Both Dryflow and Oiled have their benefits and drawbacks and IMO no one is better than the other. Some benefits that come to mind are dryflow filters better and oiled flows better down low. Both are good choices and good performance filters. Also, I think most people who have oil residue issues screwed up the re oiling process. |
