Go head over to the GEN 2 section...they have a whole long thread on intakes. And you WILL find different answers.

My advice? I would go with an intake specifically designed for Gen 2. But that's just me.

ok, here is a bone.

Cobb does not make a CAI, only SRI.

and if you look on Cobb's site, you will see that the part numbers for both gen1 and genpu are the same.

OP can't even spell his location right. Its Clearwater, FL. No space. The fail is great in this one!

Get a Corksport SRI/TIP. If I had to do it all over again, I'd go with this combo just for the price value.

Corksport sri/tip combo, cobb sri, sure aeros sri. Any of these will work. CAI on these cars is a waste, as figured out from my own experiences.

i have an injen cai on my '12. the injen filter curves and points upward at the fender. i'd have to submerge the front end in 4ft of water to hydrolock! add to that impossibility the water repelling "sock" option and the cai = win.

How is it a win exactly? It doesn't do anymore then the SRI. Either way you look at it the air has to go threw the HOT turbo...

^ this, also there is the added chance of hydrolock.

that water repelling sock is still gonna suck up water if its fully submerged.

i have been reading a lot here on the forums and for these cars its not worth worrying about hydro lock. just get a SRI + TIP and ull be fine man

CAI...COLD air intake. air drawn from the fender well is colder than air drawn from the engine bay. i'm sure some will argue it's not muh of a difference but i'm also sure none of the naysayers have actually bothered measuring the air temp to compare.

at any rate, cold air from the fender well is denser than hot air from the engine bay. denser air means more oxygen per a given volume which equals more power. some feel the increase is not worth the hydrolock risk. if you're stupid enuff to fully submerge the front of your car in 3-4 feet of water then ur dumb ass deserves to hydrolock. otherwise, pay attention to giant lakes of standing water and u'll never have a problem. i've been running CAI's on every car i've owned for the last 20 years and NEVER HAD A SINGLE ISSUE. So, throwing the threat of hydrolock out of the window, CAI is superior in damn near every application. it's simple science. once again, colder air = denser air = more power. is it a huge difference? most times no but considering how power hugry most of us are, i say take every drop we can get. A CAI achieves that...

and as far as HOT turbo...it is not the temp of the turbo that is responsible for most of the air temp increase for the intake charge. this an oversimplified explanation, but the temp increase is a result of compressing the air, exciting the air molecules creates the heat. with a CAI, the air starts off cooler in he first place. therefore, the ultimate temp of the air would be lower after compression when compared to the already hot air drawn by a SRI. again, not a HUGE difference but without actual temp measurement of both systems on the same car on the same day, any guess would be a shot in the dark. but it stands to reason that air IS colder in the fender well vs the stinking hot engine bay.

riddle me this...Is ur car pullin harder in the winter??? Would u agree it's due to air temps????? if so, buy CAI!

Mods (in order of significance): Cobb AccessPort, Autotech CDFP upgrade (thanks Captain KR for your assisstance), Cobb SF SRI Intake, Ultimate Racing cat and resonator-less test pipe, Cobb Turbo Inlet Hose, Cobb Knob, Cobb 300g shifter weight

Tune: My own (based on the v210 and v231 Cobb OTS maps but ramped way up)

Street creds:
- Fastest known K04/93 MS3/driver with only an AP, CDFP upgrade, intake, and tune | 13.37@106.83mph on stock Dunlops (2.04 sec 60' time, full curb weight, 75*F ambient temp)
- Has gone an indicated 146mph on three occasions now.

Yes I will help you tune your K04/pump gas car; I have much less experience than the major players but I also charge you $0 and can turn you around quickly. 4 satisfied customers and counting...

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if no one rises to the bait, this has be ran around over and over and over again, most people are so done with the CAI debate...

You're absolutly right! I only responded cuz i was directly asked. In the end there's really no debate. Some swear there is no power difference but these guys have no data to back it. To some, the power increase is just not worth it (for cost or hydro). And to some, the science speaks for itself even if the butt dyno feels nothing...to each their own. The End.

oh and no post around here is complete without............SEARCH!

I can't speak for the Cobb, but putting the Injen CAI off of my '08 onto my '12 was a piece of cake... don't even need to remove the front bumper like on the '08.
