Cold weather problems

I got my car in the fall, so I didnt get much time to get familiar with it before the snow and sub-zero temps hit. I have underground parking for my car, so it normally doesnt sit with any snow or ice building up on it. But after leaving my car parked at work all day, the suspension is really stiff (which I expected) and there is a really loud crashing type sound whenever I hit any bumps. At first I thought something was broken or cracked, but when its warmer, the noise is gone and it runs normal. I was just curious if anyone knows if there is something that normally freezes and could cause this noise, or if maybe this is just water/snow freezing and shaking loose? Any help is much appreciated.

Yes, my shocks do this in severe cold weather.

You should have heard my car at negative 26F ambient. It was hilarious as my 2013 Speed sounded like a piece of shit. It's normal, don't worry. Mine happens at around 5 degrees F and below.

Yup, totally normal.

Noises in the cold are normal with this car. You just need to live with them, they aren't all that bad sounding.

Normal. Swaybar bushings are noisy as well.

did you even try to search?

good number of threads with this exact question being answered...but as everyone has said this is normal...Philly had their first -20 nights two weeks ago and my car sounded awful...pulled over just to make sure I wasn't dragging a body or shopping cart..

This.

As stated above its just the bushings really. Mine seem to make noise once ambient gets under 10f

Yes I have a similar problem here in NY. With this super cold weather. And also sometimes my gears seems to get stuck.

It's your car swearing at you for living in the cold ass north. I don't blame it one bit. And global warming / polar vortexes.

I did hear a PT Cruiser groaning in agony over a speed bump this morning and it's a mild 18F here in Bama, but that might've simply been because it was hating life as a Chrysler.

Yea dude this shit sucks ass. This couple days I haven't really been driving it. I'll used my other car

cuethenoise 01-28-2014 07:59 AM

Totally normal with a lot of cars actually.

Like everyone said this is normal. But, more importantly, why have you not posted in NATOR WI yet?!

Up in wausau, we have had some shit weather. Like the average low for the last month has been -15.

i drive a car that has marbles bouncing around.

Replace all bushings.

It's 10F in the mornings here and when I pull out of my parking spot and turn 90 degrees to face the outlet, it seems that the diff is binding at first? It feels like driving a car with a welded diff for a few seconds while turning.

The suspension screeching sound is normal, I get that too.

For some reason, my power steering doesn't work if its below freezing... Any answer for this?!

shpeedtree 02-04-2014 08:17 PM

No problems, just cold hands, and crazy vibes from stiff mounts. Weather noises aren't problems.
