Who's fault is it for the ones that broke at proper torque and no spacers?

Wow, so much butt hurt on this thread. I used to run the JBR spacers until I lost 3 oem lugs from my passenger front tire within a week. I did torque the lugs to 100 lbs, per Jamie's instructions, and they still kept flying off.

The oem studs are fairly crappy. I should replace mine soon.

Spacers will emphasive bad studs... Impact guns tend to damage the threads when over tightening.

If you need extended studs...

Cheaper than the ones branded to work but extremely similar specs.

IMO, this thread wasn't designed to fuck Corksport's couch... As a matter of fact, a ton of people held their tongue until this thread was created because they think Corksport is a good company in general.

If you have these lugs, take them off, spacers or not, torque wrench or not, tracked or not, every stud material, every nitpicking little bullshit excuse for these things to fail... take em off.

OK that's enough!!!

September 16-22nd we will be filming Derrick racing on the track (not Auto-X) at the SCCA National Championship Run-Offs.

This will be on a car with slicks, bashing curbs and melting brakes with a Western Regional Champion at the wheel trying to win the National Championship. He will run these lugnuts (as he has before) and we will have video footage and pictures.

Make sure they are ones that aren't brand new in box, they should go through some heat cycles and be taken off a few dozen times so they see the wear that normal use gives them.

And honestly Joel... if you haven't seen the evidence you need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. It's not like this hasn't happened before... if this were the company I was working for we would have pulled the product and sent warnings to all users. BEFORE THIS HAPPENS AGAIN.

When multiple people post broken lug nuts you don't go looking at parts that aren't based on the product that is failing... you revise the product that is failing so there is no potential for it to happen again. Quality control and assurance 101...

Joel it might be true that many others have not failed. The OP had a pretty bad set of circumstances but the other evidence in this thread does point to some issues. There are a lot of smart people on MSF and when you go on acting like nothing is wrong it doesn't look good for you. Look at the other vendors that went down in flames here. It started the same way this seems to be heading. Vendor saying nothing is wrong as more and more evidence piles up.

If you are doing more testing and so forth please share the details. Transparency is the best policy in these situations

Super original there. ^^^

I'm starting to think 2/3 of the people in here haven't worked in customer service or understand the real world of manufacturing and dealing with end users of varying experience. Chill the fuck out as these people are being responsive. This isn't SURE. Look around the forums, Joel is doing a great job for the hats he's wearing.

The real world is messy, shit breaks, they are working on figuring this out. That's what good vendors do.

That makes complete sense. We have made changes to those over a year ago. Since then, the hundreds sold we haven't seen the issues. If anyone had a problem and they contacted us, we've worked with them and made sure that they were taken care of. That being said, any single person that has an issue with a CS part need do nothing but call us and they will be taken care of, as always.

In the very beginning, I researched this issue for hours before stating or posting anything. Then, when that information was posted, it seemed to be flaming out. It appeared afterwards people came in without reading it and then just hopped on the bandwagon. Either way, if you have an issue, call us, we can't do anything about ANY issue if we don't know about it.

Cheers,
Joel

Wow,

Working for CS, you should know well enough from this forum that Rob is the LAST guy who will troll someone, or cause problems for anyone/any vendor on this forum or life in general.

Teddy's lugs FAILED. OP's lugs FAILED.

I have had issues as well with corksport. I didnt say anything about it up until this thread started and even still, I didnt go into detail.

However, your post just came off to make you look like an ass. You might work for Corksport, but Rob has tuned 100s of Mazdaspeeds, and dedicated countless hours to helping others wrench on their cars. You're out of line to tell him to "go back to the tackle box".

When I want my car tuned, I go to Rob. When I want a bigger hood scoop, Ill come to you.

Thanks, and goodbye corksport

I never recieved the electric shipping label for the busted CS test pipe I have. I asked twice about it. I emailed Derrick about the FMIC core bracket that did not line up at all. I never heard back about it. Also, the downpipe I bought (catted) doesnt have 3 o2 bungs, like it is listed on the website as having. Also, the hangers did not line up at all. I sent pictures, never heard back.

Guess I should have called.

Let's bail Rick. Neither of us will spend any more money with Corksport and that is good enough for me.

Funny how you defend the guys through time, throughout the entire thread, and I'm trolling.

In any case we are wasting our time here. See you tonight.

1. My comment was just comic relief to lighten the mood, why so srs? You can snicker at how corny it is or get angry.

But for all of the responses, nothing has come to fruition. Nothing has been resolved. Words are just that until action is taken. So, giving brownie points for talking means what exactly?

I switched my CS parts for JBR awhile ago, so I have no fucks to give. Not necessarily because I think CS is bad exactly, but Jamie's products are phenomenal.

Let's all agree: CorkSport IS NOT SURE. CorkSport has real engineers, does real testing, and actually has customer service. SURE just has an owner that eats penises.

@rfinkle2; - Rob, I know you've been burned by a horrible vendor once, and you're protective of your friends, which is a laudable thing, but let's not vilify Joel. We saw that he has been actively researching, investigating, and discussing this issue with others at CorkSport.

Everyone just chill the fuck out. If you didn't have these lug nuts fail on you, or have good technical information to add to the discussion, maybe you should think twice about posting in this thread.

I've learned this is how MSF treats its vendors. We're your best friends one day; everything is lubed with soft music playing in the background as we gently caress you on a bed of roses. The next day we are gang raping you dry behind the dumpster of the 7-11 with Pantera blaring. It's a thin line. We're like the Celine Dion of forums because we expect a lot without a lot of tolerance.

This is a legitimate issue with the right discussion happening. Its the bandwagon folks that haven't even seen a CS part much less installed one that muddy the waters of the interactions that needs to occur, i.e. awareness, action, resolution and forward progress for those with these parts installed. If you don't have these lug nuts or have a direct relevant input to the matter, maybe sit this one out and let the information flow. Then, if there isn't resolution you can go in 'MSF Dry'.

I think people bring up a VERY good point here when they say that had this happened under slightly different circumstances, the entire atmosphere on MSF could be significantly different today.

Seriously... what would the forum's mood be today if we had lost a member? I'm not trying to be melodramatic but in my industry every minor incident is treated as a "near miss" for a much larger incident.

EDIT: I should also add, I DO believe CS will straighten this out, and I WOULD buy their products in the future. Comparing them to SURE isn't justified or helpful.

I also want to add that I don't have these lug nuts, so I won't comment on the topic further.

Agreed I have corksport parts on my car and am not trying to bring them down with any of my posts in here. I understand people get upset and I'm sure that's where Joel's last few comments came from but it doesn't help keep the band wagoners off.

I still believe CS will do right by this issue let's just give them the chance it has only been a couple days since this was brought up

Everyone just chill the fuck out. If you didn't have these lug nuts fail on you, or have good technical information to add to the discussion, maybe you should think twice about posting in this thread.
I just want to say that I lent those lugs to Teddy with the assumption that he could go down the track safely, given they were a revised version "v2".

Yes, I would've felt some personal responsibility if something happened to Teddy. That is my stake in the game.

Everyone involved decided not to post the pics of the broken lugs and go @ Corksport for just the reason you mentioned above (we had confidence in Corksport and that if Joel knew something was up, or this was common, it would be taken care of).

Just wanted to be clear as to my presence in the thread.

Dude are you seriously going to think the members of this forum are gonna take your word, over the average Msf member buying corksports parts?

Here's how a smart business should follow up with issues as such.

1st apologise for your fuck up.

2nd take care of the customers in distress

3rd correct the issue at hand.

Calling a good customer "trolling" is not something we accept from our vendors here. Especially when that comment has no merit. Rfinkle2 has bought tons and tons of your products. What reason does he have to troll corksport?

Have you seen what happeneded to the last vendor that took this very tone with our platform?

FOR THE RECORD, SO EVERY MEMBER IN HERE KNOWS I NJSPEED PULLED 10 LUGS FROM VOLTRON'S AND ALL 10 FAILED THE VERY SAME DAY OUR VERY OWN VOLTRON RAN 11S. TAKE MY WORD FOR WHAT ITS WORTH, THOSE LUG NUTS ARE FAULTY. IF I OR RFINKLE WANTED TO FUCKING TROLL CORKSPORT WE WOULD HAVE POSTED, THIS WEEKS AGO, BUT FOR THE SAKE OF DRAMA NO ONE SAID SHIT, UNTIL WE FOUND THIS THREAD.

Smartest thing corksport can do is get rid of this Joel character and bring back my buddy Derrick, who is a much more level headed than this douche.

DERRICK FIX THIS MESS NOW!

The issue here is not the damn lug nuts, its the way the vendor is carrying itself.

All the issued before the lug nuts we bought up to derrick in the past and the parts were pulled from the site until they corrected the issues.

Coming on here and calling reputable members trolls is NOT THE WAY A VENDOR SHOULD ACT IN HERE. Do you not agree?

How about posting that they will look into the situation and help the current members in distress as oppose to mocking them and trying to prove that the product is flawless by running it on their shop car.

I still think we need a part failure forum. Imagine how much differently this could've gone down:

MSFer posts CS lightweight lug failure #1 , notes his torque specs, wheel and spacer setup.
Shows pics of sheared cones and notes when / what they were doing when the part broke.

Next person shows similar failure, notes similar setup, and compares dates of purchase / lot numbers - eyebrows are now raised, vendor is aware, and more importantly so are we.

Discussion occurs as to potential install issues, material defects, etc. Moderation is unlike other parts of the forum and strictly enforced to remove all butt hurt and indirect part association or customer service issues. Just the part in question, period.

Case #3 of breakage occurs, trends are identified. Maybe it's resolved now, because e.g. we've figured out wheel spacers and aluminum lugs are a bad idea.

Here we are at 6? occurrences in this thread, two of which led to substantial vehicle damage and fortunately no injuries.

I know level heads and the internet don't often mingle, but this isn't a video game. If we want transparency then we need to take the guesswork out of when to speak up or relying strictly on the vendor to accrue data.

My 2¢, I'm done with the topic. Hopefully this is resolved to everyone's satisfaction.

I think BOTH Rob AND Joel let their emotions get the better of them. I talked to Joel about it as well, but I didn't do it publicly like I did Rob, and for that I apologize.

I understand.

Wouldn't hurt to see an apology from the vendor at this point, but what do I know I'm just some member here trolling.

Hey, I'm done it is what it is.
Ok I'm fairly new to the MSF community but I have had a lot of experience over the years with modifying cars. I have been watching the issues that people have brought up with corksport parts through various threads and it has seemed like for the most part they have taken care of the customer and shipped revised parts when they, or the community, found a flaw. They did this with the catch cans and the V1 of these lugs. But out of everything I think this post bothered me the most. They would give you a good deal on them? Their instructions and website did not warn about the thread length or use with spacers, and they will give you a good deal on some....... That is why the links to the older site went up. CS, you never warned against this use, but you don't want to warranty it. They should have thrown the warning up on the site for others to see when buying, let you know why they believed your set failed, and had you some more in the mail that day. A email to all previous customers who purchased them should have gone out to warn them against this type of use and notify them of warranty implications.

As for the damage on your car, well that truly sucks and I hope that it isn't that much to fix. The OP was graceful in all of this, CS has not wandered down the SURE path, but this is a case of a badly handled customer service situation.

I have spent a little over $1500 on my car since I purchased it in August. I have not bought any Corksport parts yet, I am not ruling it out but I will watch closely at how they handle situations going forward before I do. I still have a lot of money to spend on this car, and they carry some of the parts I want.

@JgamB; fantastic idea, but this extends beyond these lug nuts. I remember but a month ago @Haltech; performed a review of the BBK on the MS3 which also showed failures., which were again chalked up to installer error. There is a paradigm shift in management theory and how issues are managed.

Even though many of us may not have bought lug nuts, many of us have contemplated other products from them and the way they handle this matters to the community as a whole.

i agree with this^^^ Rob is a little more than a customer IMO if he is helping CS write blogs or testing products. Why Joel would take Rob's comment as trolling is beyond me! Hes one of the nicest folks on here that gives all he has to give to the MSF community.

Only replying because you tagged me, but your case in point was (if I'm not mistaken) a matter of installation instructions and not a product defect, it was quickly resolved, and the big red warning banner / thread was promptly taken down.

I just bought a TMIC from Corksport and I have complete confidence they will support it / me if I have issues with their product. If they had a history of leaks or poor fitment, and we had a forum dedicated to outlining these occurrences, I wouldn't have spent my money on their Labor Day sale.

I'm not seeing this paradigm shift in CS support you're referring to, I'm seeing a dog pile being shit out all at once that could've been avoided. Obviously tempers are flaring, and now some ill wrought statements are being made. ( @rfinkle2; I'd be pissed off, too. That was uncalled for.)
