T6...thats the golden goodness!

motherfnmonsta 10-13-2012 10:01 PM

just put it in my car today, and if you look on the bottle it does say t6 god :) Just sucks you gotta buy two jugs, thank god I work at a mazda dealership and oil filters are dirt cheap for me.

NCZ13 10-13-2012 11:22 PM

Eh, some places have the single quarts. The last time I bought t6 they were out and I had to buy two jugs.

Printman 10-14-2012 05:07 AM

Just did my first oil change last week and used Rotella T6. Funny thing was I went to O'Reilly to get an oil filter and the guy there said do you need oil? I said no got it at Wal-Mart, Rotella T6. The guy then told me it was not the same as they sell. Wal-Mart's Rotella does not have Zinc in it. WTF are you talking about. Has anyone else been told that from these idiots?

MazdaBoy2.3 10-14-2012 05:17 AM

Well I bought mine at Walmart. Hope it's the same...

WTF.. i always buy my t6 at walmart :Thinkingof_:

dpolseno41 10-14-2012 05:27 AM

That's why you buy three jugs and have exactly two oil changes.

Bucker 10-14-2012 07:26 AM

T6 is T6 is T6. It is a single product in a single grade with a single set of additives. Everyone who sells it sells the same product.

Good choice on oil, OP. I have posted my last couple oil analysis reports on this forum here:

If your shit gets cold in the winter stay with 30 until spring
in my opinion anyway

I plan on moving to 40 in the spring, after using PP 5w-30 for the past 3 changes

johnspeed3 10-16-2012 12:38 AM

Doing a first oil change this week on my MS3, Is there any issues with the warranty when using T6 if something happens and it needs serviced?

Anyone?

3Gee Tee 10-16-2012 05:28 PM

Hard to answer because it depends on your dealership's service manager.

Always a good idea to keep your receipts too.

Those of you who have Menards I just paid $12.00 for the jug.

It's fine if you do your own oil changes, but keep the receipts and record the mileage at each change. Stealerships will fuck you for not having any records (if you need to warranty something)

johnspeed3 10-16-2012 07:13 PM

I understand keeping receipts but its deisel oil not car oil none the less

You got my hopes up. Just did a price check against their site, my local store is $22.

Pics or it didn't happen. I think you bought the 15w40 dino oil version. Not T6.

CWP_MS3 10-17-2012 05:44 AM

No that's not the correct stuff... The bottle shouldn't be sideways. Must be defective.

if your car is running well on the penzplat 5w-30 then there's no need to change, it's generally the most recommended oil for this car besides the t6. I've run pennzoil platinum since my first oil change and it's been great for me. I can never find t6 in the single quarts so it's been the pennzoil for me, and it's probably what I'll continue to use.

MazdaBoy2.3 10-17-2012 07:27 AM

All I can say is the shit that came out of my car was looking pretty bad after 3100 miles.

While I have no scientific proof to back this up, I'd say my cold start seems smoother with the new T6 oil in it.

Matt

MSFer87 10-17-2012 04:37 PM

Opps that was the non snythetic

iiiiiiiiiiiif you are lucky. Toast some piston rings or crank or turbo bearings, and have the ECU say its been flashed 50 times, and I bet they'd push back on you REAL hard to not cover a repair.

Yeah I've tried both the 5w40 T6 and the 5w30 Pennzoil platinum and they both seem to hold up well. I notice a big difference in how fast my oil breaks down (I mean gets fuel diluted and turns black) when I drive the car easy versus hard. The old adage that you should probably change a turbo car's oil often is still true I would say. In no scientific test, I can turn a fresh change of T6 to dark black in 2,000 miles if I drive like a teenager, or have PP still amber after 4,000 miles if I drive it light. I tend to change the oil in this car about every 4k but like I just said I think you have to really take your driving style (and amount of powah) into account.

jmhinkle 10-17-2012 09:10 PM

The color of oil is in no way a scientific measure of its quality. I've seen new looking oil fail a UOA and smelly, black tar pass.

I totally believe you and you are absolutely correct its a bad way to measure the quality, or the life remaining, of the oil. And mileage is also a bad way to measure too. Cars should go to the "hours of operation" method I think, like small aircraft use.

I will say I do cringe knowing my car has black, fuel smelling oil in it. Its just in my head I know; my personal pref is that if its black and fuelly then it should be changed... I sleep better lol.

jmhinkle 10-17-2012 09:29 PM

Totally understandable and it seems like it should be that way. Until I had a diesel truck and started doing an occasional UOA on different cars I used to be that way. Now I buy T6 and change it at 5k miles without question.

fortressofcomfort 10-17-2012 09:49 PM

Rio Rancho, wait are you Heisenberg? You get that question alot? Actually he lived in Albuquerque I think.

jmhinkle 10-17-2012 09:56 PM

I have no idea what you are talking about.

Tokay444 10-18-2012 05:25 AM

Breaking bad Walt. Breaking bad.

90210 03-14-2013 11:39 AM

Doing my first oil change this weekend, with the 5w40 T6. Bought two jugs, they were 22$ at walmart/jug.

Didn't find them cheaper, and no single quarts were sold. All jugs only locally.

I think oreilys has them for 20 right now, not a big deal. Also every now and then I'll see walmart stock single quarts but its always cheaper getting the gallon.

MERICANS: where is your rotella made?

Just wondering, mine says made in canada, was wondering if yours was too!

And who else is collecting those "my miles matter" points?
