Cost to replace ignition?

Morning,

My car (intermittently) will beep, car turned of, e brake on, as I open the door. It has happeend 2-3 times in the last month or so. I didn't pay too much attention initially.

After much searching, I learned it isn't the seatbelt chime, nor the headlight chime, nor the "you left your key in the ignition chime."

So when this happens (the car mistakenly thinks there is key in the ignition), and it won't let you use the remote to lock the door.

You are also unable to use the interior central locking to lock the door.

Only way the car will lock, is if I put the key in the door and do it manually. My searches has led to me to believe the ignition is bad, and many people have done it through warranty. My warranty on mine ran out in December.

Anyone know what the cost to replace the ignition is, given this is a known problem with this model?

THanks

I came across proteges, and first and second gen 3 having this problem. Supposedly there is a TSB for it Protegé FAQ - TSB MT000004854 (couldn't find one for the GEN2 MS3), and not sure how TSB works on out of warranty.

why not just call the dealer?

TSB's should still be done out of warranty from what I remember. When I had my GEN1 speed there were 2 TSBs I had done, and I was WELL outside warranty.

However some dealerships are more..."assholes" the others and wont give a shit.

In this case I would a) try a dealership see what they say, as long as they charge you nothing to check it out b) call Mazda USA explain the situation and see what they say.

Have you tried pulling the battery and letting everything die? see if it kinda resets the system? Not sure what effect that would have on the programming (I would assume none...but hey never know).

Change battery on the remote too... see if you can eliminate possible things that way. Might be just the immobiliser going nutso? I mean I dont think its ignition directly, i think its something to do with the immboliser or whatever.

Called two diff local dealers. First wanted $150 to diagnose saying ignition is never a problem in these cars. Second dealer said 190$ to diagnose first

Figures other people might have had it, thus was checking here before spending $$ at dealer

If you put the key back in, then take it out, does that solve it? It only happened to me a few times, so this is a good workaround for me.

Thank you.

I haven't been able to find the TSB for the second gen, yet.

Both batteries have been replaced.

Resetting batt doesn't work.

I will call Mazda USA as you recommended

Sure, if it was permanent solving.
