CP-E Block D EGR delete kit -- fitment issues

Just finishing install of the above kit.The first manifold plug that came with the kit stripped, though it wasn't cross threaded. Curious about that, I threaded the original Mazda EGR tube back in and it went in fully with no difficulty. So then I put a set of callipers on the threaded male end of the original EGR tube and then on the CP-E plug. The difference was about 15 one thousandths over on the CP-E plug. Doesn't sound like a lot but on a tight fit, that extra is going to bind, which it did.

Thinking that I simply got a dud with the kit, I contacted CP-E and explained the situation. I then requested a replacement plug. They were good enough to sell me one. It is the exact same size as the last one they sent and doesn't fit either.

Anyone got any suggestions. I was thinking of simply cutting off the original tube and putting a shark bite cap fitting on the end.

Wow, so someone actually wasted money on the cpe kit...

JakeMS3 04-16-2016 05:30 PM

Wait so you said you confirmed the plug they sent you was too big and when you called them they gladly "sold" you another one? Something like that should have been replaced free of charge, but that's just me. And we're also talking about the same guys who host a bbq/dyno day and charge an arm and a leg for a cheeseburger and chips, so I guess I'm not surprised.

Call cpe?

He contacted them to buy a replacement that is also the wrong size. Hence my reply to call cpe again.

Could have spent half the money, got the kozmic/damond/jbr kit and not have to worry about things not working correctly.

Jbr one was cheap and fit super easy. Shameless plug here but I will have a full jbr kit up for sale in the next few days as part of my part out. :)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this.

I bought that particular kit because I liked the finished look it had.

With regard to calling CP-E, I did call and described the problem in detail. I hoped that considering the cost of the kit, they would send me the right size plug free, as a warranty replacement. That didn't happen.

What pisses me is that they didn't suggest that they'd review the size specs on the manifold opening and the plug they supply. I'll call again on Monday but don't hold out a lot of hope for a happy resolution.

In hindsight I'd have looked at other kits.

At this point, I'll likely go with the shark-bite-end-cap.

Finished look for a part that faces your firewall and is out of sight.. ok enjoy the probs

+1 for the JBR kit, plug fits like a charm.

Can someone explain what this kit do. What is the need to plug the manifold? is there a gain from this mod. I'm just wondering why mazda engineers went through the trouble of designing it this way unless it is emission control related. If the positives are greater than negatives, I will buy the kit and plug mine too.....Thanks

This kit allows you to delete the egr system. As to whether that's a good thing or not is up to you. Mazda put it in place for (small) fuel economy gains, emissions and eliminating some part throttle knock. If you're ok with trading those things for a cleaner intake tract you should install the kit.

A properly functioning egr system will have no power difference over a deleted egr. I chose to delete mine to free up space near the turbo and hopefully keep the intake valves a bit cleaner.

Because a piece that you can't even see in your engine bay unless you are specifically looking for it, it matters what that looks like? For almost 2x the price?

You know you could have gotten any other one, a $5 can of spray paint, and had it look the same.

2012 and onwards cars may have a different spec thread/size requirement, the Damond plug was a different thread for my 2012, i posted about it in his vendor section and another late model owner experienced the same thing. Also read about someone with a Kozmic kit that wouldn't fit a 2012 model but was fine on a 2010...
Guy that built my engine managed to get a proper size one from a parts shop so i am not sure of what the thread spec was that was used in the replacement.

That was helpful. Thanks.

The Kozmic plug didn't fit my 2011 either as it was too small
