Craigslist deal and some questions
 

I recently bought a 2010 Speed3. I've been looking for a while but just couldn't spend that kind of money on one. Saw a black 2010 with 38k miles for $12,700 on CL. Black wasn't my first choice in color but I couldn't pass it up. I went over, drove it offered him 12k (I know, I know) and bought it right there. Has a few little door dings and a small dent in the hood, but overall its in really good shape. So onto my questions.
1. On startup (after it's been sitting overnight) it will idle at nearly 2k rpms for 45 seconds to a minute. It will slowly idle down after it warms up a little and within a couple minutes it seems normal.
2. The wing rattle is driving me crazy but I'm gonna try the butyl rope trick.
3. Even with the HVAC system off, there seems to be a lot of warm air coming from the floor. Is that normal?
4. When I turn the wheel sharp, I hear a whine. I've done some searching on this. Is that the issue where changing transmission fluid may quiet that down?

All that sounds pretty normal to me. 12g for seems really cheap though. Did you do a compression and leakdown test? Any mods?

1: Usually not that long, maybe 10 seconds at 2k, then goes to about 1500 and slowly drops to around 1k. 700rpm being at 185+temp.
2: Take off the plastic and check to make sure your bolts are still on the wing. There cheap 10mm nuts and work 'emselves loose. Just don't over tighten or they break.(Could also be your antenna being lose and rattling.)
3:Press the recirc button to stop taking in outside air. Should shut that off.
4: Sounds like LSD or power steering, either way usually normal unless obnoxiously loud.

Like those guys said, everything sounds pretty normal... Cold start the engine stays at 2k for a bit and works its way down as it warms, not sure about the wing rattle, haven't had to deal with any yet. As for the AC, recirc works wonders and if you're worried about that whine when turning, just check your steering fluid level quickly and go from there until you figure out what the whine is and if you need to worry about it.

You can bypass the cold engine start by slightly pressing on the accelerator when you start the car, should start up and go to a normal idle once you move your foot off the accelerator.

Wait.. you paid $12,000 for a 2010 with only 38k miles? Nice job! Congrats.

12k for a 2010? Does it have a clean title? If it does then you stole that car!

What i read from this, seems like a steal for the car.
