Default discount tire messed up my wheels...

Found a good deal on a set of tires, and had them ordered and put on at discount tire. I was suuuper tired, just got off of work at 7 am (had to make some repairs at work) and went to discount right after. Talked to the service manager about my car the whole time it was getting worked on, and about family and other small talk, really cool guy and he liked the speed alot (hes a civic owner, yes I know).

Car finished up and walked out and got my papers and went on my way. At this point my eyes were burning and it was time to hit the sheets. Woke up around 5 or 6 and went out to clean up the mess all over the rims. Thats when I noticed the front two wheels have 6 inch gouges around the edge of the rim, and it looks like something dug into the wheels at the beginning of the marks. All four wheels also have big ass chip marks around the lug nuts.

I keep my shit pretty clean and I just dont think thats cool. I tried to call them up to let them know but they closed at 6. Sucks, I should have checked my shit before I left, hopefully he will man up and do something for me. I dont expect new rims or anything, but some kind of acknowledgement or small case of generosity would be nice.

Well see going there now.

Return and have the manager look at it and then have them sent out for refurbishment.

Thanks guys. Just stopped by and showed him the rims. He stands firm that with his machines, it is not possible to scratch the rim the way mine are scratched. I let him know they were clean before I arrived, and that the rims all have the same matching marks around the edge of the rim. But he did let me know of a good shop that I can take it to so they can be sanded down and sprayed haha lol.

Ya win some ya lose some. Tony sure is a swell guy.
Ill post some pics up, hopefully they dont come out mega huge.

i once brought wheels to them clean, had tires mounted, and right after i had them mounted (didnt even leave to go home), noticed some marks. got the same "its not possible our machines could have scratched it like this".

hope you're not having to pay for the repair. there are more opportunities for them to scratch up the wheels than just while they are on the machine.

The tool that pulls the tire off the wheel revolves around the wheel and it is possible the tech made a mistake and it did that. No real otyher logical reason IMO why a perfectly symmetrical gouge should be there.

Your wheels are dirty, tho. Would be obvious if fresh if the area was clean too. And holy rusted brake pads!

That sucks man I feel your pain. They didnt offer to pay, and wont accept responsibility, but I sure as hell know im not paying to get it fixed. Took all I had but I was super nice and kept my cool the entire time, bunch of old ladies and customers in there, dont want to give speed owners a bad name, so I left and went home to plot.

lol bullshit. that is certainly from the machine. When you pry the old tire over the plastic
"non marring" head it puts pressure on the face of the wheel there. If the head isn't in good condition or there something in there from an old shitty steel wheel or something then it will do that every time. Or if the wheel wasn't level when they clamped it down in the machine it can do that. Call corporate and raise hell.

haha for some odd reason the drivers side brake pad decided to rust, I know I know it looks like shit. But the rest are ok for some odd reason. Been meaning to take care of that.

Yes, and a perfectly symmetrical gouge on multiple wheels, after a tire install.

While you are no way in the wrong;

This is why you should always closely inspect your vehicle before leaving a shop. If you leave with damage and come back it becomes difficult to get compensation.

Yes, and a perfectly symmetrical gouge on multiple wheels, after a tire install.
This is the part that's blowing my mind. A dumb tech and a tire iron on a tire machine did that. Unless you let a woman drive your car, they do the darndest things...

Seriously tho, I hope you don't sit on this, the longer you wait, the less likely anythings going to be done. Good luck.

Yeah its obvious they did it, but discovering it after leaving the place fucks you over. Manager might be a nice guy who's hands are tied by corporate policy. If you escalate you might hit somebody with more authourity to help you out.

Yeah I know me leaving and catching it later could be a reason why hes so hesitant to claim it now. Completely my fault there. However if that was the case I would have expected to get the "Once you leave the shop we cant be responsible or represent a damage claim" talk.

I went ahead and submitted a store visit feedback survey about my experience and left a number and email. They are corporate, so they'll reply and send his store the email. Should get things rolling.

Don't take no for an answer and from personal experience I wouldn't settle for a refinish either. I had my wheels destroyed on a previous car and they refinished. The next time you need tires I'd say there is a 90% chance the edges will chip away. It's the thinest part that gets refinished. They they told me it's like an egg shell around that part. If this ever happens again, especially with these nice wheels on my speed I will absolutely demand new wheels. Sure it will be a difficult argument but I won't except anything less. I spend over an hour and a half cleaning my wheels and I will do the same once I need four more tires rt before I take it in. No one will fuck up my shit in less then 30 minutes time without total hell raining down on them. good luck!

I'm sorry this happened to you.

I had a similar experience a few years ago at a Merchants Tire and ever since that day, anytime I go anywhere where I have to have my wheels removed or tires mounted I take a video on my phone in the parking lot of where I'm getting serviced. I get a close up of each wheel, state my name, date, time (I even get a shot of my watch to verify) and get a shot of the service center I'm at. So, if I ever have to deal with their "We couldn't possibly have done this" bullshit.. I can show them the video and tell them to suck my dick and fix their fuck up.

It's sad that I have to do this. But I do.

I don't blame you one bit for doing that now. It seems necessary if you give a damn about what you own. I know I'll be taking more precautions when going in for service next time.

Its sad that we live in a time where people take advantage of this shit everyday for their own good, and not just the unhonest customers. It just keeps getting harder for us regular folk to get the service we deserve when something like this happens. Man up and take responsibility and figure out the problem in your business, don't pass it to the customer.

i still think the service manager was just distracting you while his mechanic fucked up your shit due to the FYHN sticker. He told him to do it while he told you how great your car was.

Maybe find this manager and fuck him up.

Just sayin

This has happened to me before. It happens when they use a metal shoe horn to remove the tire. They are supposed to use a plastic one for painted and alloy wheels. Probably just an inexperienced tech.

Time for an update.

WIN!!!! I'm assuming word got back to him quick . I called corporate and left a message. Call was quickly returned and he apologized up and down for 20 minutes. So my options are new ms3 rims or buy any two aftermarket and hell buy the other two and install them for free.

Once again guys, this is why I donate and continue to love the ms3, best community out there. Thanks for helping me out @kritz; @Raider;

Much appreciated, fuck yeah!

last time i got a quote from discount tire about the 17x9 rpf1s, even though they had to special order them, it was $223/wheel- one hell of a deal... in case thats a route you wanted to go.

I think the best solution is to look long term. Want custom wheels, they guarantee lowest prices. I got my wheels and tires there for my MS3 and have bought from them since 1990. Find some wheels. Biggest thing, you keep the original wheels, they do not get to keep them. That has to be known.

Glad it all worked out!

This is definitely a win. Just one thing, and sorry to be Debbie-Downer here. But he'd have to order our stock rims brand new fom Mazda, and they cost a fortune. I think he k KW's you'll select aftermarket and save himself hundreds. Again, just a reality check, still a win. @kritz; & @Raider; you guys RULE! Now somebody find me some free wheels would ya?

They no doubt by from the dealer I know that.

I would go in and spec out some decent wheels after price shopping and make em drop their price to make it work.

Eric and Blue up in Gainesville 5 years ago took care of me. Think they are still there, too.

2013 rims or aftermarket. Only two options worth considering.
