Do you need a HPFP just for an intake?

I've been toying with the idea of adding an intake or going with an upgraded intercooler, but it seems like before any mods the HPFP is always mentioned. So I have a couple of questions... I have a 2013, was the HPFP already upgraded? Do you have to do internals on the stock pump or is there a upgraded stock version you can just buy. I'm newer to this and most of my searches brought up little usable info. Thank you in advance everyone!

JDMJOSH 05-11-2013 09:44 AM

You upgrade the pump yourself with new internals or buy the cp-e unit. There is no such thing as an MS3 that comes from the factory with an upgraded HPFP and no, you can't buy one from Mazda either.

Thank you! So do I need a HPFP just to install an intake or intercooler? Do you have a link to the Cpe unit?

USE THE GOOGLE SEARCH FUNCTION AND LOOK AT THE STICKY THREADS FOR FUCK SAKE

It still stumps me that Mazda Would build a vehicle that has such an Achilles heel. Would a HPFP be a good choice even on a otherwise stock setup?

Monotonous ONE 05-11-2013 10:27 AM

This car requires the deutchworks in tank fuel pump also. Even for rear motor mounts. You are putting.more power to the ground, thus more fuel.

Kdawg207 05-11-2013 10:28 AM

If you plan on modding beyond the intake then just do the internals now since yurn gonna need em

Many say u dont need internals until you do the DP but it's all related so do it now if youre headed down that modding path.

With that said......

Search and donate. All the questions you have, have been asked and answered before

tam22fb 05-11-2013 10:33 AM

you dont need it right away i have a 2011 with a full turbo-back exhaust, SRI, AND BPV. it was tuned professionally and everythings just fine including my AFR...283 WHP 298 TQ... although before i go any farther i know i need to do the internals.

If by tuned professionally you mean some shop did it then no. If one of the etuners on here did it, then yes, it is a pro tune, but you obviously did not because no tuner on this site would tell you to get a turbo back exhaust without internals. :booty:

:haha: In for a 6th gear WOT pull.

There's not a fucking e-tuner on this forum that would tune you with those mods and NO internals. Just goes to show that any "shop" is always willing to make a buck. My heart hurts for you.

Troll or not, fucking kill yourself. You're a fool.

He's probably running extremely low boost; torque is only 298 lb-ft.

300 dollar fuel pump internals are an Achilles heel? Gtfo and stop with any plans to mod any car ever. Go buy a Prius do not pass go and do not collect 200 dollars.

tam22fb 05-11-2013 10:57 AM

they did the boost at 16

btstarcher 05-11-2013 11:01 AM

I'd still get the internals ASAP; you're playing with fire. If the comp. tables aren't perfect you'll overboost and the engine internals will have lots of fresh air to breath.

tam22fb 05-11-2013 11:07 AM

im plannin on it after being on here. im not trying to be ignorant or anything i recently got the car and all those mods were recomended by the shop i go to...there reason for no internals yet was that they could tune the care to a safe level without it.

Get a HyperTech and head over to 2/47

Hush 05-11-2013 11:12 AM

Are you at least logging and monitoring your HPFP?

How do you know it is still holding? Do you believe that because it is holdng now, it will hold tomorrow?

Or...you can wait till winter.

I didnt this that this thread could fail any harder after the OP. You have proven me wrong.

Pro-tip. Abandon your shop now. They clearly dont have a clue when it comes to this platform.

LS2toMZR 05-11-2013 11:50 AM

Holy shit balls! First of all, searching isn't even necessary for this, just read the stickys. I too have a 13 speed that I got new a week ago. I barely have any posts cause I've just been reading. This site has TONS of great info. Guess what? First thing I already have on order before anything else is autotech internals. It seems inevitable and even with light mods I'd rather rest easy not worrying about blowing up a brand new car because I didn't want to spend $350 on supporting mods first.

What a knob you are! Other enthusiast, including myself come here with legitimate questions about a otherwise unknown platform to them. You respond with an irrelevant quip in an attempt to appear as if you've never had these questions before. Based on your response I can only assume you're a teen or twenty something filled with angst. Please move on.

To the others posting helpful information, thank you whole heatedly. My searches on the topic did not yield clear information so I decided to create a thread.

Hush 05-11-2013 12:33 PM

How exactly did searches on hpfp not yield clear info? It practically slaps you in the face everywhere you look on here.

Embarrassingly, no. No excuse for that, in my defense I was searching google in hopes of an answer. I really appreciate the link Hush!

cp-e fuel pump
MZR DISI 2.3 HPFpump? | Custom Performance Engineering

Question though. why go straight for the intercooler when there are much better $/hp mods or even better mods in general for a stock setup

Thank you again! The reason for the intercooler thought was based on some of the post I saw stating there was an intercooler that retains a stock appearance with the shroud. In central Florida the ambient air temps rise easily during the summer and I've experienced some heat soak already at a few auto cross events.

It's excellent to hear that you can read and the school system did not fail you. Unfortunately my search skills need some updating, thank you for reminding me of that.

Your child-like response did not disappoint and I appreciate you demonstrating that amongst helpful information there is always still a troll. Have a good day and drive safely.

Yes we have all had questions but what we did about it was search. And when we didn't get a CLEAR answer (see spoon fed to you) we searched some more. You know if you don't find the exact info you are looking for within 5 minutes of searching, maybe you should keep reading. God forbid you actually stumble upon some other useful information not related to your search. But no, it seems that so many people want stuff spoon fed to them while having tunnel vision. If you were a REAL enthusiast you would understand that....

The success of the community is not measured by your failures and our actions to them. If you fail and we DONT inform you of your fail to the point where you won't do it again, then we as a community have failed. Have you learned your lesson on searching or have we as a community succeeded in showing you the errors of your ways?

I doubt you would have a problem with an intake being you are in a warm weather state. When people were having issues with just a intake usually it was in the winter in cold states.

Clearly this is a lost cause on the likes of yourself and others who had nothing helpful to lend to this thread. You almost sounded like an adult for a moment. #mature .

If you were a "real enthusiast" then the time it took you to so eloquently respond, you could have offered actual help. A "real enthusiast" would have offered suggestions to a new fellow member, instead you decided to assume I wanted a "spoon fed" answer and devote yourself to throwing insults, "enthusiastically" I'm sure. A bit of tolerance and patience go a long way in building a community. Based on your screen name I would have assumed patience and tolerance might have come from you in spades. Guess not.

Your point on searching has been noted and I hope mine on being a bit more patient with new members might find a place amongst your enthusiasm. Drive safely, cheers!

DONOTBUGME 05-11-2013 02:38 PM

We have to weed the hopeless fags out one way or another. Otherwise we would just be like m247 or some Volkswagen forum.

If we just simply gave you the answers how many more questions would you ask before searching for yourself? You obviously have the world at your fingertips in the form of Internet but yet instead of searching you demand answers. I did offer you suggestions. I suggested you search. I suggested you read. I suggested you get thick skin. All of which aren't to be a dick but are detrimental to being a member here. When I am being a HUGE dickhead you will know. it was tough love is all man. Welcome to MSF

A lot of us, if not all of us, are willing to help fellow members. But we expect that they do their part in searching up topics. Many questions you have have probably already been answered, so a simple search could've yielded you answers to your current question and possibly to any questions you might have in your future. You really should have read your intro email, I did and I've had a pretty good time here on MSF. You didn't and know you feel attacked for asking a question that could've been answered by looking around the forum, that question doesn't even need to be searched.
