Do you run with your AP?

Just curious how many people have their AP always up in the car and if there are many who only use the AP when they are logging or loading tunes.

MS3Shadow 06-06-2015 07:53 PM

I have mine always up when I'm driving.

I just enjoy watching the bats drop like a rock with meth

DaUberSchwebel 06-06-2015 08:06 PM

I'm OCD. I can't drive without seeing at least my IAT's, BAT's,HPFP pressure and KR.

Do you even watch the road?? Lol

Orangatang 06-06-2015 08:07 PM

I use it when tuning, when I think I have a problem, and when I take the fun curvy roads to keep an eye on things.

I might be starting my own meth addiction soon. :)

I'm right there with ya...but sometimes I feel like that takes some of the fun away from actually driving the car. What I wish is that the AP had an audible alert so I wouldn't even need to think about it. Hear loud beeping? Let off the gas. That's what I'd like.

I just got Freek tuned in dyno with meth and BNR s3. Fun as hell to drive. Though I find my self staring at the flow gauge cuZ I'm paranoid and my fail safe isent attached to the GA right now haha

To be honest, I'm thinking about just running a DO DV-30 with a D03 as a safety blanket. I'll get the cooling benefits and the KR protection but if the kit failed for some reason, I'd already be running a tune that was done without WMI factored in.

Best I can tell, running a D03 without altering the tune is ok and won't jack with AFR's on 50/50.

Basically, tune for the best I can get off the pump gas...then add a small amount of WMI for safety and cooling.

Anyway, should probably keep the WMI discussion short before the topic is completely derailed. lol

Always run with the AP. Like to keep an eye on everything because OCD and six data points at one time on one screen is fricken awesome. When I was battling the foam tape style mount and couldn't use it a couple times I kept catching myself looking at nothing because it wasn't there. That issue has since been remedied. Stupid foam tape.:rocketwhore: SMH

Half the point of paying for the V3 is to display it! I am kidding, but I do leave it up at all times.

L0k1 06-07-2015 04:28 PM

I freak out if its not plugged in. Even though I have never had any issues.

makjur 06-07-2015 04:55 PM

Just upgraded to apv3, I always have it on just like I always had my ap2 on.. Thankfully it has an oled display now so no screen burn in.

iammike 06-07-2015 08:05 PM

So, being a $600 piece of electronics that you rely on to update tunes on your car...has anyone experienced failures from having the AP in the car all the time through extreme heat and cold?

I haven't had a problem...but sometimes wonder if I'm asking for trouble.

Tksilver3 06-07-2015 08:48 PM

Always have it running... I like to keep an eye on hpfp, coolant temp, boost and afr's

I haven't got a problem running it with this Texas heat we have. I do have tinted windows and clear tint on the front as well.

I always have it in my car, and also always have a USB cord plugged into it and coiled up around my phone dock. Then my laptop's in the pocket behind the passenger's seat so I can quickly plug in my laptop if I want to log or tune.

anavrinIV 06-08-2015 05:51 AM

I almost never use mine.

texasboy21 06-08-2015 08:17 AM

Only when I need to log. Otherwise its just asking to have your car broken into. Plus the Texas summer heat would fry it sitting in the car all day.

mize13 06-08-2015 08:47 AM

Never in car except to flash a map or take a log, or on a long road trip.

That being said I have interceptors (BATs, AFR, Boost, Coolant) with the LEDs set to flash when any KR is detected.

Will eventually grab a sandwich plate to monitor oil temperature through the interceptors, or at the very least, have the LEDs illuminate when the oil gets too hot.

HawkeyeGeoff 06-08-2015 09:02 AM

All day with the V3; need to be able to see parameters at all times.

MBalik 06-08-2015 09:06 AM

I've got a V2, so I use that for logging and tuning only, but I use Torque on my GS3 to monitor 6 different parameters every time I drive. So essentially I'm monitoring with a 25$ version of the V3 lol

g00s3y 06-08-2015 09:21 AM

Always on in the car, always monitoring PSI/AFR/KR/HPFP Pres/LTFT/BAT.

Don't go around poor crackheads who might try and break into your car lol. People on here have had their car broken into, and the AP was left amazingly. Most likely because a thief has no idea what it is, and they aren't going to steal something they can't offload easily/quickly for cash.

The AP has never fried with the FL heat here anytime during the year, and I never take it out unless I need to transfer a map to it, doubt it would there.

csmaan12 06-08-2015 09:27 AM

I'm paranoid about KR so it's always in there and I'm always watching for KR. Plus I too, like to watch BATs drop once you get the turbo spooling.

I live in Houston Texas (albeit a very nice neighborhood), the city is crawling with "poor crackheads". If my car gets broken into because there's something visible, its on me for leaving it in the car, not them. As for the heat, its not uncommon to see 30, 60, or even 90 days in a row over 100*F. That's easily 120+F in the car, and cannot be good for anything electronic like the AP, phone, etc. Better safe than sorry.

thems3driver 06-08-2015 10:01 AM

Im hypochondriac with the car so AP is always mounted, except for nighttime. Apartment living.

WhiTe_JeZebel 06-08-2015 10:57 AM

Always mounted and showing data. Since I've had my car broken into before and my AP is mounted where you can see it from looking through my front windshield, I make sure to put it away before I leave the car. Never want to give anyone a reason to break in.
