Do you think this is an acceptable offer? Hello again folks, I am just a mere 2 months away from finally buying my 2012 MS3 w/ tech package in CWP. Can't friggin wait. I have been trolling around on these forums now for months and speaking to a dealer for what seems like an eternity. It has been made all the more difficult since I have been doing it solely through email since I am currently deployed to Southern Afghanistan. So attached is the invoice I received from the dealer. I am purchasing it at S plan price. Have no trade in and paying cash up front. Tell me what you think. I have no idea what AA is on the invoice but everything else seems pretty legit. MODEL - MS3 STR P YEAR - 2012 VIN - JM1BL1L35C1566164 ENGINE NBR - L3 20452754 POE - TAL14 EXTERIOR - CRYSTAL WHITE PEARL MICA INTERIOR - BLACK MPS INVOICE AMT -.............................................$2247 2.00 Equipment - Oil Cap -............................................$0.00 ------------ Carpet Floor Mats -.............................$0.00 ------------ Portfolio -..........................................$0.00 ------------ Interior Lighting Kit -.........................$160.00 ------------ Pearl Paint Charge -..........................$172.00 ------------ Compass AutoDim Mirror w/ Homelink -.$220.00 ------------ Scuff Plates -.....................................$0.00 ------------ Mazdaspeed Tech Package -............$1836.00 Transportation Fee -..........................................$795.00 AA -.................................................. ..............$360.00 Total Invoice("S" Plan) -..................................$26,015.00 Taxes -.................................................. .........$1572.30 Title + License -.................................................. .$15.00 Documentation Fee -...........................................$190.00 Cash Back Incentive-.........................................-$750.00 Military Appreciation Incentive -...........................-$500.00(Till end of May) Total Out The Door Cost -.................................$26527.30 So if someone could tell me what that AA cost of $360.00 is(it only appears on "S" plan purchases) and also if it's legit charging me a 190$ Doc Fee. All the numbers listed above are dealer invoice price. I know there is another thread with people listing prices and such, but the numbers people were giving didn't add up and no one bothered to list a comprehensive pricing quote so I thought I would. Also the dealer will be adding Rally Armor Mud Flaps for $128, changing transmission oil out to Ford Motorcraft for $82. Was hoping they would do that for free. And finally there is currently a $750 cashback incentive, which I am hoping stays or increases by April. Thanks for all your time. TL;DR --Is $27027.30 a good out the door price and what the hell is AA for $360? |
That's a little more than I paid for my '11 in May. But, I don't have homelink, lighting package or CWP. I would get them to tell what the hell AA is. Sounds like dealer markup. |
Figured out what AA is. When retail price is given it is already included in the Number, however when Dealer Invoice is given it get's separated out. All it is is Advertising Cost. It's something that is included in every new car sale and isn't negotiable just like the transportation fee. As long as its between 300-400 the dealer is being honest. If it's ever higher then 400$ they are trying to rip you off. Most dealers wont even tell you what it is so I am glad they were upfront about it. |
Fuck that. Tell them MSF.org is all the advertsement they need. Good or bad. |
it's an ok offer that you don't have to negotiate, but you can definitely do better if you work the deal yourself. i would recommend getting competing offers from other dealers in the area. just go to their website and get them to make an offer...their online sales will always start lower than if you just walked in through the door. |
i paid 26k for my '12 cwp w/ tech last month in NJ. ur def a bit high there bud. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
|
Fucking way to high here in austin I could get the same car OTD for 23 |
Sadly I have done the competing offers. This is the best I could find in Michigan. I've gone through about 6 other dealers all throughout the state. A few wanted non-refundable deposits to order the car(instant NO in my book) and others wouldn't go below $26,800 not including TTL. Also, to say you can get a 2012 w/tech for 23k OTD is ludicrous. They would lose 3000 just selling to you. No where on Edmunds or Truecar can you get that low. I think the biggest problem I see is people are trading in cars at time of sale or there interest rate is bumped up to cover the difference. Also, did you make a down payment? I am paying cash with no trade-in. It's been a nightmare getting people to give solid reliable numbers. I noticed alot of people giving super low OTD prices and I honestly think they haven't read through their contract very well or misunderstand what OTD means. Or they have epeen issues and just want to be the best. Also Matx, Texas' sales tax is over 2% higher then Michigan. I really appreciate people giving input but if you are going to give solid figures, atleast give a breakdown similar to the one I provided. Mine includes everything involved with the sale and leaves nothing to interpretation. Pretty cut and dry. That also includes listing options. |
you also cant compare OTD numbers from state to state. every state will have different taxes, title, and registration fees. you want to compare the final purchase price before TTL. |
@socks Agreed. Mine would be the $26015. |
it's completely possible that MI sales on the MS3 are a bitch. check edmunds.com to get the TMV of the car. also, if the dealership needs to actually order the car, they won't be able to give you a good deal. for the good deals, you will need to deal with what's currently on the lot. if you're willing to bend a bit about the exact options the car comes with, you should be able to get a better deal. |
wait..why dont you have them cover TT&L or give you a military discount? I myself would accept the numbers theyre throwing at you and once you get back into the states..go and hustle them for lower or covering TT&L. Dealers are dicks so its only right that we the people, return the favor. |
I was hoping to see some new incentives today Feb 1st. I am going to try and work a deal on a 2012 Silver MS3 this weekend. I have a 2008 5.7 liter 4x4 double cab Tundra for trade. we will see what happens. I'll post it. Thanks, |
Oh, doing the math wouldn't you take out the 750 incentive before calculating taxes? Also is the 750 incentive still there for Feb? I think Jan had 1500 and 750 hidden incentives and the 1500 incentive was on the earlier 2012 models that were marked "R" on the sticker. I have been following the inventory for MS3 for about a month and here in the DFW area (Dallas Ft. Worth) I don't see a lot moving. But I don't see a lot of inventory either. Looks like 23 MS3's in the area. Most dealers here have 3 in stock. The larger ones have maybe 5. |
damn that's a lot of money for a ms3, if I was in the market for a new car and the ms3 was ~26k, for a couple few grand I'd jump into the next segment of cars. (evo/still/5.0/135i etc) I remember the good old days of the Gen 1 when people were getting them brand new for 22-23k otd |
Have you tried the USAA pricing thing? |
I paid right around 25,500 for my 12. I got mine straight off the boat with 0 miles and that saved me some money because the dealer didnt have to pay intrest to the bank because i picked it up the same day it came in. First and Last person to ever drive my car! No. 10881! |

and OP, when i get home tonight i'll pull out my contract and post a breakdown. ur right, i dont think i included tax there so im editing out the "OTD" and get some more deets for ya. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Just for another point of reference. Purchased in Ohio, February 2011. 2011 MS3 w/Tech 23,970 Selling Price 250 Doc Fee 24,220.00 before TTL 25,948.90 total w/TTL I shopped all the dealers in Ohio by phone or internet only, and ended up driving from Columbus to Cincy to pick my car up. Good Luck! |
Just got a great email from my car dealer(that feels like a sin to say). Since I emailed the GM 2 days ago because of the rep I was dealing with was a nightmare I have received excellent service. Mind you now I am dealing solely with the Sales Manager and no one else. The GM was pretty pissed when he heard how I was being treated. Anywho, to the good news, I just received an email stating that Mazda is doing Military Appreciation Incentives till the end of May. So I am getting another $500 off. And Michigan calculates Sales Tax after incentives. Not much of a difference but 72$ is 72$. ;) Hmm, wonder if I should ask the dealer to wax the car with meguiars before I pick it up too. :thinkerg: |
i paid about $25k for my 2010 (bought January 2010). so your price seems about right. and yeah, get as much out of them as you can! and do what i forgot to do, ASK THEM TO REMOVE THE DEALERSHIP LOGO BEFORE IT LEAVES THE LOT!!! haha my dealer won't take it off now in case they mess up the paint and have to pay to get it re-painted. |

Btw, the gif in your sig made me burst out laughing in the middle of class when I read it! Thanks! OP, price seems a little high, I'd definitely see if they can work in the fluid change into the deal. Should be no problem with a little negotiation. Hell, I got 3 free oil changes, painted pin striping, and window tint when I bought mine. |

TMV USAA said $25,001. I can't remember if you can stack incentives on top of that or not. If you can, then that would be your best deal, even if you still had to pay AA on top of it: $25,001 + AA + TTLR - Incentives = $25,550. The USAA car buying service is run by Zag, so you could call the dealer (or a different dealer) and ask if you can stack buyer incentives on top of Zag prices. But, you're military. So, you should have learned by now that if there is a USAA option for anything, that's always your best bet. |
Looks like around 25,300 is a good price to shoot at for the 2012 MS3 with Tech Package. I did a search and could not find out if the MS3 with Tech package has Larger Brakes than a Non Tech MS3. I went to classicmazdaofdenton website and here is what their MS3 with Tech Package says. Hard to believe that MS3 with Tech Package has Larger Brakes than a reg MS3 2012 MAZDASPEED3 Touring VIN: JM1BL1L3XC1586815 MSRP: $ 24,000* Destination Fee: $ 795 Packages & Options Packages: MAZDASPEED TECH PACKAGE $2,135 XENON HEADLIGHTS ANTI-THEFT ALARM SYSTEM KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM SIRIUS SATELLITE RADIO BLIND SPOT MONITORING SYSTEM LARGER BRAKES RAIN-SENSING FRONT WIPER FULL COLOR MID W/COMPACT NAVI MC Individual Options: Total MSRP: $ 27,130* |

I don't think tech package comes with larger brakes. Ask dealer to clarify what this means. Specifically, ask them if the larger brakes are a factory-installed option, or a dealer-installed item. They aren't factory-installed, I promise, but the question should put the dealer on best behavior. Then ask who makes said "larger brakes", and if you can get the model number. If they come back with anything sensible, post it up here and someone can help you sort it out. Best of luck. |
My apologies for bad forum etiquette, Purchased a 2012 mazdaspeed3 Black Mica today. MSRP 24,000 Compass Auto Dim Mirror w/Homelink 275 Tech Package 2,135 Vehicle with Options 26,410 Delivery Fee 794 Total MSRP $27,205 Paid $25,763 Not Including TT&L Taxes in Texas are 6.25% but since my trade was worth more than the price I did not need to pay the taxes. Kind of weird in Texas. Hope this helps you with your deal. Car is great. This is my wife's car so ... it's pretty cool. Thanks! |
@indiomonk I appreciate you breaking it down and makes me fairly confident I am getting a good deal. I also have the interior lighting package and the pearl paint charge and am still paying a little over a thousand less then you before taxes. And I understand what you are saying about the trade in thing. Even if I did have a trade Michigan requires tax on sale value-discounts. It sucks but whatever. Atleast it's only 6%..some other states are ridiculous. |
I paid 24450$ before taxes, tags or any other feels. my out the door cost was 26120$. for a 2011 with technology in May of 2011. |

Dude f that i just bought a 2012 speed3 with tech for 25 300. I am military also. |
if you like the car and can afford it sure why not? |
I paid $24500 otd for Disiindahead's '10 with tech and homelink. Plus I got Gap and the oil changes we ended up not using. We bought it off the truck with seven miles on it. I definitely think it is a little high but have to agree that if you like it, buy it. You'll love it. sent from my cleavage via Tapatalk |

Mine was $26010 all said and done, including the loan, but mine doesn't have the homelink (wish it did), I think your getting a relatively good deal, as i was in the same situation, no trade in and cash down. Just decided to sell the old car via private sale. Mine had 8 miles on it and was delivered 10 minutes before i picked it up. They took a grand off mine instantly and then gave me an accidental 500$ off when i mentioned we already owned a normal 3, apparently speeds don't qualify for the loyalty program, but they decided to give it anyways because I complained. |
i paid 22000 out the door, 2010 no tech. with a little money from trade in |
