It's so much easier to get the front wheels on the ramps in a gay RWD car.

Guy in video is so dumb. He tried to put his car in a moving van with those ramps, and he let his girlfriend drive? Dam how stupid.

@video LOL. Shallow end of the gene pool for sure!! Would make a great avatar!! Bet it would have been funnier watching them try and get it out.

If my lowered Lexus can get up my rhino ramps, my stock pu sure as hell can. It's about finesse. Like finkle's idea about the drawer liner!

Has anybody tried putting both ramps on one side and driving up like Dukes of Hazzard?

Hey Op,

Back to the damage....

Don't just grab a mallet and start whaling away. Carefully remove said skirts and use a
hair dryer or heat gun (carefully) and warm the damage up and work it out slowly. Don't
overheat the paint and you will probably get away with little residual wrinkle left.

OP that's unfortunate, but it doesn't look bad at all, could have been much worse. Now I'm second guessing investing in ramps!!

That video is epic!

WTF did the owner of the Civic think was gonna happen? Did he seriously thing that it would have made it in there OK? Also, the cameraman sucks, but definitely knew some shit was gonna happen, otherwise he wouldn't have been filming.

I know I'm gonna sound like the nagging parent here, but this is only good advice if you're talking about using a mechanical (scissor) jack.

You should NEVER get under a car that's being held up by nothing more than a hydraulic cylinder...

sucks that happened.

the rhinos I have have a small rubber foot in the front of the ramp so when you're driving up on them they don't move. I actually have some of that draw lining stuff laying around, gonna use that too next time. Hope you can fix the rocker panels OP.

Haha, not bad AZ-cowboy-dude-in-boots. But you could just drive up there too, and for dumb people, that method adds a step that could turn out bad... obviously... And at the top you still spun your wheels a little, so if you don't have throttle control you could still shoot the ramps under your car, even with a running start.

Same ramps I got, walmart special. Rubber on the bottom is good.

next time you drive up on the ramps in your garage prop up some 2x4 between the ramps and the frame of your garage, this will eliminate the kick out of your ramps

I have rhino ramps with the rubber feet held in with Gorilla Glue. Had a genpu try to go up on my driveway. Stopped half way, then burned out on right tire. Backed up, made it all the way. Tires had melted plastic on them and the ramps a spot where the burnout made a grippy area. Ramps held in place. 5 years old, too.

Its all about clutch control! Anyhow I stopped using ramps because my civic couldn't clear the front end without ripping something off. Haven't tried it on the pu yet since I have a hoist available at work, with all the snap on tools I'll ever need. Great investment for quick maintenances that require you to go under the car though.

I use the drawer liner on one of my ramps too.
They came with the rubber pads, but one fell off somewhere.

I almost had similar fail since I didn't notice til I was trying to go up. Luckily, I heard the ramp sliding on the concrete and avoided the situation.

What's safer:

Drive up the ramps with 1 foot on the clutch and 1 foot on the gas trying to make it up the slope. If you overpower the car, you then have minimal time to move your foot over to the brake and catch the car before it overruns the ramps

or

Do your acceleration and clutching before the ramps. This establishes your momentum to carry you up the ramp so you can left foot the clutch and right foot the brake to carry speed or scrub it off as required to match the amount of speed that is already being decreased by the degradation of momentum from climbing the slope of the ramp.

Lol thanks for all the input and well wishes. Nice vid Chris. Your my hero

Will probably just keep it to the driveway from here on out as I think it is porous enough to prevent the ramps from sliding...or I'll jack it up. Only takes another 30 seconds or so.

I agree. I have never done that, it is indeed risky.
1) if you pull forward and get any torque steer (or just flat out pull to one way or another) you wont be lined up, and can have major fail.
2) so fast, if there is a problem, you are fucked.
3) dont stop in time at top, you go over, wammo kablamo
4) The force on the ramps of you flying onto them is a lot more than if you simply just went up them.
5) hit the ends, and the back kicks up and you go over-seen that a few times online...

I have never had a problem myself with getting up the ramps. I used them for my Protege5, and now with my MS3.

If you keep spinning, wipe ramps with alcohol to remove any oil and dirt, and applie this to it, lengthwise.
Shop SKID GUARD 2" x 96" Black Anti Slip Tape at Lowes.com

I highly do NOT recommend flying up onto them like that.

FWIW, my ramps also don't touch the tire, they get stopped by the front bumper. A slight kick to the back of the ramp puts it up to the tire. If you are good with e-brake control you can go right up, and if you stop halfway, still hold the car in position and start up halfway and still get it to the top without a problem.

if you over power the car, you're fucked regardless of how you went up the ramp. the trick is to avoid over powering the car.

the difference is in your method you
1) can't add more speed if necessary because you're just covering the brake
2) you are going at a higher speed, which gives you less time to react to a problem

when you are in control of the acceleration going up the ramp, you aren't likely to go over. why? because you can feel when you get to the top and you just hit the clutch and the car stops.

if your way works for you, then go for it. but i think your likelihood of fucking up something is higher with your method.

One nice thing about the higher CX-7; my bumper clears the ramps. Would suck if every time it rubbed.

OMG, that's why I don't drive on the ramps anymore- for fear of this exact thing happening. It's never happened to me but almost. I now use jacks- jack up each side of the car, then use jackstands or just slide the ramps under the tires once high enough. Never had an issue doing this.

ramps are great, but typically shitty on 'polished' concrete foors like a typical garage, as displayed by OP.

Shit if I had a garage I would build my own ramps and bolt them to the floor near the back wall.

I noticed on my ramps often times my little rubber foot will fall off...that can cause it to slip. check to make sure yours is still on. 2nd....on a totally flat surface it takes practice to get up the ramps...I did it with a gt500 mustang, applied too much gas, and fell off...FAIL. For the mazda my technique is this...my driveway has a little slope to it. What I do is back my car into the driveway. I then place my ramps directly infront of the wheels, making contact with the tires.I put the car in gear, and hold the brake. Then release the parking brake. When I release the foot brake the slop rolls the car on to the ramps just few inches, then I start going up with the gas....if I don't get it right, I roll off the ramps, but since it is a slight slope the reverse roll isn't fast. Most driveways are not flat...try this....if you have a super steep driveway then don't do it...Anyway, be safe.

"There is a war going on for your mind. If you are thinking, you are winning. Resistance is victory. Defeat is impossible. Your weapons are already in hand. Reach within you and find the means by which to gain your freedom. Fight with tools. Your fate, and that of everyone you know, depends on it."
