Eco Light

Hey everyone...i noticed yesterday that there is an 'ECO' light on the gauge cluster. I didn't see it on, but saw it there, so I was wondering if it works, since i've never seen it on :D thanks

dizzydtrain 06-08-2011 10:13 AM

I noticed that I have a VTEC o'meter light on mine but it keeps flashing red. My AP read the code V0112--low fluid. What should i do?

thx.

Really?

SRTie4k 06-08-2011 10:59 AM

My ECO light stays a solid green when I turn my car off.

Abu Zib 06-08-2011 12:02 PM

i know its a dumb question...but i haven't once seen it on or read anything about it...

BLK_MS3 06-08-2011 05:21 PM

It will come on when you hit 60 mph and then throw it in reverse.

tried it...didn't work

but seriously, why would this car have an eco light?

Postulio4joo 06-08-2011 10:18 PM

Can i see a picture of where this light should be?

forcedinduktion 06-08-2011 11:08 PM

Wtf is this bs eco light

mazdaspdmike 06-08-2011 11:30 PM

Probably on there for automatics... my mother has a Kia Soul AT, it's got an eco light for when you're not flooring it, lol. Just means you're getting good gas mileage I assume.

dooderek 06-09-2011 12:12 AM

considering genpus arent automatic, i unno

Ive seen it for the new accords. A little green ECO just lights up.

mrFanel 06-09-2011 03:42 AM

In all likelihood the same dash layout and same idiot light layout is used on all genpus - hatch, sedan, 2.0, 2.5 and of course the MS3. The ECO light is probably something for the lower end autotragic cars... maybe some sort of a super gas saver feature.

Abu Zib 06-09-2011 06:10 AM

on newer cars if you drive economically, this light turns on...i just don't get why we have it haha

It's because every 3 shares the same cluster template. It's a cost cutting measure.

Oh, ok...thanks for the help, i didnt know that!

adlpb 06-09-2011 07:15 AM

I think the eco light is just reminding you to trade in your MS3 for a prius.

mazdaspdmike 06-09-2011 07:29 AM

its a reminder that even though they can engineer v8s to get 30+ mpg highway (fucking Vette's) they can't engineer our 4bangers to get more than 25-26 mpg, so its there to remind you that Mazda fucked up on all sorts of things on this car, but we love them anyway. lol

Lemme get right on that! I don't give a fuck if the light comes on or not, I was just wondering why this car had one...

I'm gonna test this one day, I do a lot of highway driving on the weekend and I want to see if this bullshit-o-meter (aka trip computer) can at least be accurate with instant readouts. Fill up at a station near the highway, drive to the next city going like 65mph with cc, fill up and calculate. maybe I'll get this Eco light to show up.

SRTie4k 06-09-2011 09:35 AM

The MS3 is more than capable of 30mpg. My dad and I went on a trip from VT to PA when I first got my MS3. All interstate and 70-75mph the whole way, I calculated the mileage when I got there and filled up (like you're supposed to do...fuck the trip computer) and got 32mpg. Same thing on the way back.

City and mixed driving though, you'll never see that figure. But the Vette is the same way - it'll do 29-30mpg highway but only gets 20mpg in city/mixed driving.

Meh, I do 80-85 thats why I don't get that mileage. idgaf though, cause I know I can reach if it if I want to, I was just giving Mazda shit about their engineering, lol

EvilMonkey 06-12-2011 08:41 PM

I have gotten 34-35 mpg's @ 60mph on stage 1+ before the revision.

True, but the Vette will make our MS3s look as slow Priuses on top of similar mpgs.

9900rpm 06-13-2011 04:03 PM

ECO light for other cars is when the motor shuts off 1/2 the cylinders, for better fuel economy. Dad's Odyssey has it. Not sure why an MS3 would have it. Probably saved Mazda money to build a cluster overlay that they use on different models/trims.

Gas mileage: The MS3 actually isn't too bad, considering it's a boosted hatch and all. I guess that DISI bullshit really works. I was getting mid to high 20's mpg on the highway, even on the 3076R. Boosting the shit out of it is a different story.

SRTie4k 06-14-2011 06:55 AM

Here's the definitive answer on the Eco light.

Mazda 3 i-stop full road test car review - BBC Top Gear - BBC Top Gear

It's a feature on a car not available in the US, but as was said numerous times, Mazda obviously used the same cluster overlay on all 3 models to save money.

EvilMonkey 06-14-2011 09:56 AM

mid to high 20's even with a gt3076r? Damn. I guess it doesn't really matter unless you aren't in boost. Probably would make it better as a bigger snail would suck in a higher volume of air.
