Not sure, I'm putting down almost 350wtq on Vdyno, SWAS disabled, grippy tires up front, and if I hold on to the wheel I the car barely fights...

and I don't even lift, bro.

MazdaBoy2.3 09-18-2013 09:12 PM

I feel like I need to drive a ST just see what all this fuss is about...

jseams 09-18-2013 09:19 PM

I hadn't noticed torque steer since the first month I owned the car. So, a few weeks ago I was thinking on my way to work that maybe something was wrong with my car because I had just read something about someone complaining about it - I didn't have my AP with me so after doing a few short 2nd gear pulls when I got stuck behind a couple red lights and not feeling anything, I decided to try a pull and not hold onto the wheel....

Car almost went onto a sidewalk...

It's there, but we get so used to countering it by (simply holding the wheel with more than 2 fingers, lol) that it's a non issue unless you are driving the car for the first time... like most magazine reviewers.

Haltech 09-18-2013 09:20 PM

The ST wishes it had torque steer... Taking the nemo car through an Autox course yeild sloppy steering, peg leg e diff action and serious lack of torque. I even disabled all of the shit to see how wild it could be... It was like throwing a hot dog down a hallway, it was so loose and unthrilling.

doctavus 09-18-2013 09:29 PM

Yeah sometimes I will FEEL the torque steer but most of the time I don't. Guess just used to it.

Yeah the ST's are overpriced, BUT, it's good for the hot hatch segment, it promotes competition. Dick measurements and the like.

This.

Yes the car torque steers like a mofo but I'm so used to it I don't even notice anymore. Besides, planting it in 2nd gear just spins the tires and ya there's some in 3rd but doesn't mean I don't keep on it lol

crankshaft 09-19-2013 06:36 AM

I have this pesky habit of keeping my hands on the wheel, so I don't notice the torque steer. I was recently reminded of it when I was combing the floorboard for a missing pacifier while driving. :baby:

I came from a 1998 Chevy Malibu LS, where I could hold it in place with a flaccid peen. So the first time I drove the car and nailed it, I was all over the fucking road. lol

Not gonna lie, it took me some getting use to during the first week or two. But now I can't drive a car without it. Even the MS6s feel boring to me. lol

I almost put that you told me that I needed a FWD car because I needed drama to feel fast. lol

Dimenus 09-19-2013 07:22 AM

Aren't you supposed to use two hands in situations like that anyway?

Idiots.

BigRedSpecial 09-19-2013 08:35 AM

I'd love to see all the idiots bitching about torque steer go out and floor a high power RWD without holding the wheel.

Deldran 09-19-2013 09:20 AM

With my mods its practically non existent. I did a 2nd gear pull with no hands just for fun the other day and it didn't move off line until 4500 rpm

BigRedSpecial 09-19-2013 09:26 AM

People think my car is the worst, most undrivable beast they've ever been in... what they don't realize is that with my winter tires it's completely nonexistent. So It's actually some combination of stiff sidewalls, bump steer and shitty rutted roads.

I'm going to try the Whiteline Bump steer kit to see how much difference it makes.

bladerunner10121 09-19-2013 09:35 AM

I test drove the ST. It feels like the motor is pushed to its limits and the MS3 feels a lot more effortless.

MS3 is still the hottest hatch IMHO. That is until the new Golf R gets sent over here.
Nah fuck the vdubs. I wish we could get our hands on something like the Renault Clio. I drove one in spain and me wants mid-engine, RWD hatch NOW.

manila 09-19-2013 09:55 AM

How hard is it to hold a steering wheel?
Fuckin Pussies...

Seriously? Mine would be gone as soon as the turbo spools.

Tadweezy 09-19-2013 10:43 AM

this freaking article made me laugh. I never once noticed a bit of torque steer. yes I am used to fishtailing from my Camaro. but never once had an issue with holding on to a wheel that's been put in front of me. I also some times shift with using my knee to hold the steering wheel for a brief second if I multitasking. still never had my car veer in any direction. Maybe theses journalists need to put down the pen and pick up some weights.

Mistersix 09-19-2013 10:54 AM

Those import mags rarely have love for Mazda's. If its the newest honda, well its the best thing since sliced bread and battery operated dildo's.

DVM17 09-19-2013 11:38 AM

lol @ torque steer.

What's that? :hypnotized:

I can let go of my wheel in 1st and floor it, no veering into a ditch........ ohhhh right, you guys have fwd. :sad6:

:tongue1:

Voltron 09-19-2013 01:36 PM

They should try doing a pull in my car.

MS3CB 09-19-2013 01:48 PM

torque steer makes shit exciting.. and well, im not a pussy so who cares.

moomooz12 09-19-2013 03:01 PM

I have yet to read an article that talks about the mazdaspeed3 and doesn't nag about torture steer. I'm glad we keep the weak hearted away at least.

L3THAL6 09-19-2013 05:27 PM

When I first got my MS3 I thought the torque steer was bad simply due to my lack of experience with boosted FWD cars. I then took it all the way to 280 WHP and traction became more of an issue than anything else. Now its stock again and I feel absolutely 0 torque steer.

Stingray69 09-19-2013 08:18 PM

If the torque steer in a a MS3 puts you in a ditch you're a pussy and deserve to be there.

KiwiFlavor 09-19-2013 08:46 PM

2 hands at steering wheel =/= torque steer...

Idk why people bash on speed3's so much. Anyway, i let my friend try out my car ( he owns a FR-S), and he was smiling as big as my bumper grill and said "i was wrong about speed3's" lolol

jk_ms3 09-19-2013 08:47 PM

Torque steer is part of the fun (well, it was back when I noticed it). Guess Mazda could have just bumped the hp down, but why would anyone want a car with less hp? Doesn't even make sense to me.

TazFc3s 09-19-2013 08:59 PM

on uneven/bumpy roads i feel it a little and yeah when im tired or being lazy i feel it... but if you drive the car and not let the car drive you its fine... People are pussies now a days and want the car to be smart enough to drive itself.

I'm really trying to picture steering with your knee while one foot is on the clutch and one on the gas. How does that work?

Voltron 09-19-2013 10:34 PM

Seriously though.

After you've owned this car for a while.......

If tq steer is a issue w a k04......

You suck.

mxlplx71 09-19-2013 11:46 PM

do these guys even lift?

lol

Haltech 09-20-2013 12:41 AM

Where ford screwed the pooch was by its engine choice... The 2.3 should of gone into the Focus... This would of made it automatic, to shit can that e diff before it ever had a chance to even be brought up as an idea. It would of made them change everything that is shitty on it, today. Had they done that, it would be a no brainer move to consider one as an upgrade.

2.3 In Foci St
2.0 Fiesta St

BigRedSpecial 09-20-2013 06:56 AM

They'd still have a useless clutch and a tiny ass turbo though

Sit real close to your steerling wheel. and if you have big legs it will work. Tight fit but will work. i am still trying to learn to shift with out the clutch like my dad does in his truck and dodge duster. so then it will be a lot simpler to do. what can i say i learn all the stupid shit from my old man

steevieg 09-23-2013 03:54 AM

now I understand that we get used to the torque steer, but really?

considering you can even drive with just your knees is even possible, I doubt that you don't feel ANY torque steer driving with your knees.

LS2toMZR 09-23-2013 07:51 AM

Must be that my legs aren't long enough, but for me there's no way my knee is making contact with the wheel while depressing the clutch at the same time. However, if you can figure this out, I would assume this would only be done in a light throttle easy shift situation, aka no boost and no torque steer. Anyone going WOT while multitasking and steering with a knee isn't fucking around!
