Evo X Wheels on Gen 2 Just bought a set of 18x8.5 Evo X wheels... I'm tired of spinning 2nd and 3rd... I want more traction!!!! I've been searching for hours and there is no consistency... the Evo X wheels are 18x8.5 with a 38MM offset. I'm putting Nitto NT05 245/40/18 rubber on them. Some people say there is no rubbing on a Gen 2, some people say you just have to grind the metal part on the back, and some people say you have to roll the back fenders. Have any of you installed Evo X wheels on a Gen 2? What did YOU have to do to make them fit? I'm trying to get a straight answer from someone who is ACTUALLY RUNNING THIS SETUP. Thanks for the advise in advance! |
I actually would like to know (after you get this done of course) how much of a difference going 245/40s makes on traction on 2nd and 3rd gears. |
This is BeeZaa's car and this is what he says about the wheels: "Tires on there currently are 235/45/18, it rubs in the rear over hard bumps. I haven't got a chance to roll the fenders yet." Original post: http://www.mazdaspeedforums.org/foru...ml#post1254740 http://i.imgur.com/MYdzh.jpg |
I'm running 245/40 and as far as I know it doesn't rub but fingering the fender well I can tell it has touched. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y20...Picture062.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y20...Picture061.jpg |
It all depends on your suspension. Stock? Probably won't rub |
Ya stock suspension, not lowered at all. Thanks for the responses guys, feel a lot better about the purchase now. @Roddiy If 2 extra inches of rubber and tires that are basically slicks dont fix my traction issues I don't know what will lol. I bet I grip like a mother fucker after I get this finished. |
I just put some NT05s on... they are awesome for the price |
I wish these wheels were better looking. I actually know a guy that has a set for sale I just don't know if I'd want to spend the money on them when I could get a better looking wheel for a similar price. I just really like the width and offset of these wheels. And that they are a quality wheel... |

Looks horrible. Buy an Evo |

@Darksun280 Glad I could provide entertainment for you Darkie =P I don't know Kritz and I'm sure he's a great driver but, but he was only making 320 WHP. You had him before it even started. However, have plenty of GenPu's on here making enough power to eat you alive so don't let it go to your head! As a side note, I really do like the EVO's, but at the price point the Mazdas are just too much bang for the buck. Stock for stock you can save ~14K and have the same amount of power and a nicer interior. In a few years after I get my house paid off I plan on buying a GT-R, and just for you Darkie, I'll make the drive up to NY and show you what a TRUE turbo AWD car should be able to accomplish :) |

and I eat Gt-R's |
Stock EVO X - 13.2 - 1/4 mile Stock GT-R - 11.5 - 1/4 mile Stock EVO X 0-60: 4.9 Stock GT-R 0-60: 2.9 You do the math =P |

Based off the races I saw posted I'd guess he's putting down somewhere in the neightborhood of 260 - 380 WHP... nowhere close to a stock GT-R |
have a couple of pic in this thread just got these babies | SpeedForums.org they dont rub unless i hit a big speed bump or have 2 people in the back seat. this is with the 245's on them im gonna get 235's for this summer. |

These look really good! http://i695.photobucket.com/albums/v...DSC03808-1.jpg |
Just went down and ordered some Nitto NT05's 245/40/18 from Discount Tire - The guy did a little measuring and thinks with the 38mm offset of the Evo X wheels they shouldnt rub. They should be flush with the fenders, maybe stick out past the fenders just a little bit. We'll see how it goes. I'll make sure to post up details to others who are thinking of running this setup. Here's the tires I got: http://static.summitracing.com/globa.../NTO-40513.jpg Here's the rims: (I got Mazda emblems for the center instead of the Mitsu) http://pictures.topspeed.com/IMG/cro...-14_460x0w.jpg Will post pics of car once they are installed. Should be about a week for everything to get here. All in all if everything works out I should be putting down 2" of more rubber, better gripping tires, and lose about 5 Lbs of rotational mass per tire. Hope this cures my spinning in 2nd and 3rd! |
probably wont help much in 2nd where did you get the mazda centercaps btw the centercaps from the stockers are too small for the evo wheels |
http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/IMAG0017.jpg No idea about the center caps. I got the rims from another forum member and he has the Mazda caps on them already. |
who'd you buy them from ? I NEED those |

The Gen 2 center caps fit the EVO X tires perfectly. Diddnt have to buy anything special. The rims I bought had one area of pretty bad curb rash, and dings and chips all over the other wheels and I got tired of looking at them. I got a hair up my ass and went to Autozone and decided to completely redo the rims since my rubber doesnt come in until Tuesday. I grinded down all the chips with a dremmel, grinded the big curb rash out as well, and used 180 grit sand paper to smooth all the other imperfections out. I then used JB weld to fill in the areas of curb rash where there was actual metal missing from the rim. After all this, I used 320 grit sand paper and completely went over every inch of the rims. I've never done this kind of work before, but I must say it was much easier that I expected. Just took alot of time, patience, and elbow grease. The wheels look flawless now, but they are unfinished. And here's the part I'm scared of lol because I've never painted rims before, and have heard both good and bad stories about painting them. From what I gather it's all about the prep. After I got all the imperfections out I spent a good 3 hours hitting every nook and crannie with 320 grit paper. From Autozone I bought 2 cans of primer / sealer, 2 cans of enamel wheel paint, and 2 cans of enamel gloss clear coat. I know I need to give them a good washing, then use lacquer on the rims before I start the process, and have a clean enviornment ( Gonna do it in the garage with the door closed and a mask on). Anyone here that has rattle canned their rims before have any tips they would like to share? I know go light on the first coat, then heavier on the 2nd & 3rd coats... spray 8-10" away from the rim in an even back and forth motion... all the tips you can find on this site ect... and extra pro tips you might offer though? I love the color paint I bought for these, and I really want it to turn out looking bad ass when I get them installed on Tuesday. BTW... I weighted the EVO X rim... they are 22.8 lbs.. the Nitto NT05's are about 2.5 Lbs lighter than the stock potenzas... so I'll be losing about 5-6 Lbs of rotational mass per wheel - so besides the fact that they are gonna look awesome, acceleration should be improved too! I'll make sure to post up pics for everyone when it's all done, thanks in advance for any advice you guys offer. |
comparing an evo to gtr, LOL |

Got em refinished and painted.... They look freaking amazing. At the tire shop now getting the rubber put on. I'll post up pics and let yall know if I had any fitment issues in a few hours. Fingers crossed! |
6 Attachment(s) Fitment is perfect. With the front tires turned all the way I still have 1/4" before they touch the side wall. As long as I don't hit a speed bump hard while my tires are turned all the way I'll be just fine lol. Please note I'm on stock suspension, if you are lowered this setup WILL NOT work for you. EVO X 18/40/8.5 Rims Nitto 245/40/18 NT05 Tires I've completely eliminated ALL wheel spin in every gear except first. I used to spin 1-3rd. Now 2nd & 3 have zero spin, just pure zoom zoom acceleration loving! As for the ride quality, I was expecting a stiffer ride. It's actually very smooth, I was surprised but road noise is at a minimum it's a very smooth ride. I absolutely love them. Here are the pics: |
i would wanna try these wheels but im gonna lower my car on swift springs and koni yellows and i doubt theyll work for me....maybe if i do 235s instead of 245s |

Ok, I officially change my opinion of getting this setup installed on your car. I've been pulled over for speeding TWICE since these tires have been installed. There is just so much fucking grip I cant get over the rush of being able to pound it in 2nd and third again. Body gets forced back into the seat, the turbo starts singing it's love tune.... Luckily I was let off with a warning both times because the cops recognized who I was. This car is just too much fucking fun to drive now. Gonna have to pay extra close attention to how fast I'm going though. When your WOT that speedo just shoots up so fucking fast lol. Since I didn't get tickets I imposed my own punishment. No WOTs for me for a week. That should stick in my brain. Sorry for the rant, u can go back to reading the bimmer porn thread now lol. |

Meaning that you did not fit your stock mazda center caps on your evo x wheels. I already knew this, not sure why you would lie about it. It'd be very nice of you share where you got those center caps. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y20...h_fac69c50.jpg |
Maybe rx8 center caps? Mine looked very similar in size. |
What was the name of the color that you used for the wheels? Was it just gunmetal rattle can? I think the wheels look sick, my buddy has an evo x I have to look at those wheels all the time lol. |

Oh, it's also spelled "lying", unless of course you meant want to lay down with me, which would make you the faggot. |
lol I just caught your ass in a lie and all you can point out is that I spelled something wrong? Still sticking with the "genpu caps fit" story? Fags gonna fag I guess. This goes well for your credibility on your ridiculous claims of power you make on the stock k04 with no meth or e85. |
What the...???? Why all the hostility on this forum? |
Quote:
Lots of angry kids on this forum that wanna be keyboard warriors. Just gotta add em to the ignore list one at a time and eventually you don't have to listen the the bullshit anymore :) |
Yeah I'm just a 32 year old kid. I just like to call out liars on their bullshit and watch them squirm. I got news for you babygirl, if the genpu caps fit, they ain't evo x wheels. |
Lol damn.... |
Wow. This is seriously the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen someone get pissed off about... |
Wow agreed, hostility for no reason, regardless the caps fit the previous owner coulda ground em down a little or whatever. Who the fuck cares. But yeah about the paint thanks for clarifying, think I'm gonna gunmetal my pu wheels (black genpu) so thats cool. I'll def get the enamel, and we gotta redo my friends rsx-s and make sure he does a better clearcoat this time lol. |

Nice set up. I picked up a mint set for an amazing price. I actually like the way they look without the center caps. I plan on painting my wheel hubs black before mounting them and going capless. |
Theres no drama, just wanted to point out that the OP is moron. I'm guessing he's under the drinking age. I'm not sure why he insists "his" stock wheel center caps fit on the evo x wheels when obviously they don't and he's never test fitted them since he's selling his wheels with the center caps in the fs section. I called him a liar and he responds by pointing out my spelling error on one word. He's still sticking with "well mine fit". This moron is also claiming that he's making 342 whp / 387 wtq on pump gas. http://www.mazdaspeedforums.org/foru...s-left-106689/ He lists wheels/tires as a power mod....this ones a winner. |
@xb2ms3, sorry to bring this back but I'll comment on the center cap issue. I got evo x wheels yesterday (the enkeis, from a 2008 gsr) and my center caps fit from my genwon wheels (2007 gt). I don't know if it's an issue with the years or what, but mine were actually a very tight fit and i had to hit them in with a hammer to get them to seat. I'm not sure what issue you're having exactly but mine go in and stay in. I don't know what to tell you about yours because mine went in, from my stock wheels to the evo stock wheels. @drenkel didn't put his in so he may not know where they came from, but I'm guaranteeing you that MINE fit. |
Quote:
Being the douchebag that Drenkel is, he didnt even bother to check it before saying the center caps from his wheels fit. We both have genpus. Its the blatant disinformation that was annoying me. |
Thread is not that old. I have a set of EVO X rims and planned on swapping my gen 2 center caps over to the EVO rims but the caps are way to small, "they fall right through the evo rims." So my question is what Mazda center caps actually fit the EVO x rims. |
Center caps off the gen 1 wheels |
I paid $600 for mint Evo X wheels with the stock Advan tires (95% tread left). The gen1 center caps fit nice and snug too. http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b4...C42870E005.jpg |

I ordered some 57mm/2.2" Mazda center caps from Ebay. Hopefully they will fit. |
I have asked the same question. I have a completely stock 2013 MS3 and threw the evo X rims with NITTO - NT01 245/40ZR18 tires on and they fit nice. Only problem is there is a bit of rubbing in hard cornering so I took them off. My rims came off a 2010 Evo XMR and I believe they would fit perfectly if I put a thinner tier on the 245 is just to wide to fit this car unless all your doing is driving in straight lines. Well anywhoo, my more immediate concern is trying to find some center caps, other than the mitsubishi ones, to use. I would like to get them with a Mazda logo. :) |
Or you could just dremel off the Mitsubishi logo and super glue those ebay stick on caps like I did. |
Funny i like the evo wheels better on the speed than the evo! |

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...518_183628.jpg http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...518_183649.jpg This was a good place to post this. My Evo wheel setup with 3d printed center caps. The rusty center bores are pretty ugly IMO. You can't see well in my picture, caps are a bit textured from the printer. .01" resolution. I'm liking the rough texture for now. I just shot primer and gloss black on them before putting them on. Very tight fit. Edit: 59mm front and 53mm back clip are the specs. |
