..If you guys can remember, I made a thread to ask for help for my bro who's looking for a nice car..and he's torn between...Evos, MS3, GTIs, Golf Rs..etc.. But it made it very hard for us since he doesn't have any credit history or he needed a $5k down payment or he needed a co-signer..

Yeeeeesh :( I test drove the Veloster Turbo once and it was terribad. Not only power wise but the suspension was all sorts of weird, the best I can describe it was that steering was super rubber-bandy and vague. I had hoped it would have been a bit better than that, I can only imagine what a normal one is like :|

I really like the looks as well as the interior of those cars. If I was getting something to get me from A to B every day that would be on my list.

If it was a Mazda 3 no fucks given, it's a great commuter and fun around the corners... but an NA Hyundai Veloster... come on dude. I hate saying this but a Civic would have been better.

Meh. It's really not a bad looking car.

...but it's a Hyundai. It could be the best looking car on the road, but being a Hyundai kills the deal.

Gotta disagree slightly. If I came across a Juke R, I'd be tempted to lay the dude just for a drive in it.

Well, no offense but that is ignorant. I was brought up on Ford's with my Dad. We had 2 Fairlanes (not at once) an 78 Chevy Truck and a couple other cars.

So I found out (when I had my Kia) a 2005 Spectra was a damn nice/reliable car for the amount paid. Only reason I went with it was I saw it on the road and never saw one before and it looks sporty and reliable. This was a time when I took a break from performance cars.

Now look at Kia and Hyundai, some VERY nice car's coming from both. When I am done with my Speed3 I pretty much plan on buying an Optima.

Then I will still have a weekend car :D

I hope it has a back-up camera cause you can't see shit out the back window of that thing or the Honda CRZ.

That is one of his reasons too..he said the car is much more better looking in person..than in pics.. idk.. for me..it's just a POS.. it's actually a weird looking wide body hatch-back 3-door car..

No back up camera… and agreed..u can barely see shit out of the back.. you have to twist your back for you to clearly see what's behind you.. but it has touch screen,,:woohoo:

Hmm cool looking car regardless of the performance.

That's not the end all be all but it is fun.

I just don't understand..we both like cars.. But I guess I'm more in performance..and he's more on looks..maybe he'll understand..someday..

Juke R is between 500 and 600 hp. It's basically a gt-r shoved into a Juke frame.

I'm prepared to take alot of flame for this, but I think it's a very smart call. He got an affordable car that looks sportyishhssahsdh... His credit not being good means he doesn't have enough money to throw at an evo or a speed3. Insurance aside, gas is effing expensive and this car will save him money in all aspects.

And given a choice between a civic, corolla, or this, I'd choose this thing any day. At least it doesn't look as boring as other econoboxes.

Mazda 3i

I'm pretty sure veloster is a few thousand cheaper than the mazda3i

2013 Veloster starts at $17600
2014 Mazda 3 starts at $16950

2013 Mazda 3's could be had for much cheaper. Guy had a lot of options but chose fail.

2014 mazda3 looks like a friggign SUV.. It's far from being a sporty hatch.

100k warranty on that POS too. You don't have to worry about anything breaking as it won't reach break neck speed.

He got a approved on Hyundai. We tried every dealership around Chicago area. They are looking for the same things...co-signer and big $$ down. That's why we are surprised he got the brand new Veloster. He was pretty stoked that's why he couldn't say no. No cash $1000 cash down..and $340/month.. That's not bad..for his credit. He doesn't have any credit history. I tried to tell him get a cheap reliable car for now..then build up the credit. I hate the car..but in his situation.. I guess..I'll let him be.

Edit.. he got the Veloster for $17550 if I'm not mistaken..

We tried this, when we did not get approved on the speed3..but unfortunately.. we weren't approved either..

I'm sorry, but I just don't understand how anyone can look at the veloster and honestly say "That's a good looking car"... It's absolutely hideous. Is that ducting leading underneath the headlights even doing anything, or is it pointless?

An optioned out 3 is disgustingly close in price to the MS3, you won't find many near the MSRP for bare bones on dealer lots so that is understandable.

Same way with WRX, Focus ST, Toyobaru BRZ/FRS - they all end up near 30k with those tantalizing 24k MSRPs.

That is why the MS3 is still the king of the bang-for-the-buck. Loaded up tech for under 25k with no haggling right now. Hopefully he can establish some credit in the next year paying for that hideous contraption and trade in for a real car without too much negative equity.

This. I'm gonna make sure he pays his bills on time. And don't do much modding on the Veloster..he's trying to do intake and exhaust.. Hel'll try to build his credit in a year..

Talk him out of doing an intake and exhaust.
He won't really see a performance gain, but rather just sound.
It will give him more of a reason to get on it to hear the car's intake/exhaust, resulting in less mpgs lol

Yep, I've mentioned this before, but one of our Nator guys has a brother with an FRS. Piggyback ECU, intake, full exhaust - and it still put down 168/138 on the dyno.

I felt terrible for him, but I had to laugh.

Damn.. Those are terrible numbers.. I could imagine for the Veloster.. He just wanted to sound fast for now..hopefully just intake, exhaust and a good set of tires/wheels..and he'll be good.. After a year..stock it out and trade it for a speed..better yet for a gen3 speed.. :)

Financially, i would advise against that. You never get your money back stocking out. Also, why get rid of perfectly good wheels and tires so you can carry around additional unspring mass, slowing down the car.

As far as sound. Its rice. Please don't.

If everyone had same tastes, nobody would get what they want. Everyone just needs to think about it like this. Having shittier cars on the road, makes ours look better.
