Finally drove a ms3

So finally was able to find one for sale in my area...it was a 2011 with about 30k miles. One thing I wanna ask is everytime I would accelerate fast (flooring it lol) the steering wheel was unstable. Is this normal or is something wrong?? Also the dealership was asking 24,999. Im pretty sure a new one goes for around that haha. Whats a good price for this one.

maxspeed3 09-23-2012 08:51 PM

Excellent you've been bitten by the bug. My guess is you probably felt torque steer. The wheel tired to pull you to one side when you floored it? These cars do torque steer, you get use to it after owning it for a couple of months.. Plus new motor mounts help a lot with the torque steer.

Dmurray06 09-23-2012 08:51 PM

Loose steering wheel I'd say.

Buddhamonk 09-23-2012 08:54 PM

buy a civic, no torque steer

Thanks for the info, torque steer...sounds about right haha.

24k sounds too much, must be tech at that price. 6 months ago I got a 2010 tech with 24k miles their asking price was 20.

lamaro88 09-23-2012 09:21 PM

nope no tech package.

kashbringer 09-23-2012 09:23 PM

I walked out the door with a new 2012 for less than that. They are crazy at that price.

BobbleHead 09-23-2012 09:23 PM

for that price you can get a new ms3 w/ tech

Pope 09-23-2012 09:31 PM

if you pay 24k for a used your not doing your homework.

lamaro88 09-23-2012 09:36 PM

They are asking way too much for sure.

Buddhamonk 09-23-2012 09:47 PM

21k no tech, 24k with tech brand new. Most places can give you 3k off msrp

woodfloor 09-23-2012 10:00 PM

I got my 2012 w/o tech for 22.7k brand new...

pcvang 09-23-2012 10:04 PM

New 2011 w/ tech for 23.8k

zmarko 09-23-2012 10:36 PM

New '12 Non tech for $22k. Don't buy used for more than they're worth new.

Zooms3 09-23-2012 10:37 PM

2010 tech cpo 13k for 21

Mazdalover01 09-23-2012 11:21 PM

I paid 22k new no tech

JT.Tuckerman 09-24-2012 06:14 AM

Shop harder or put in a really low offer for that one. Used cars are up in value right now- low mileage ones going for almost what the new ones are going for. I also paid 22K for mine, no tech although I had to shop really hard and bought 75 miles away. Dealers near me would not budge on price.

CWP_MS3 09-24-2012 07:12 AM

Will you faggots stop turning this into another "this is what I paid for my car" thread. We've got plenty of those.

OP - its called torque steer. When you buy the car, and learn to hold the steering wheel with some balls, it will not be as much of a factor.

well played.....

Rich990 09-24-2012 01:31 PM

OP sounds like troll :/

Zoomspeed 09-24-2012 03:00 PM

Go to Carmax you will get a tech for 21 with 15,000 miles

lamaro88 09-25-2012 05:43 PM

thanks for the responses....i know its too much what their asking and i would not over pay. i know how to do research before purchasing. I am gonna test drive the car again hopefully tomorrow haha

Agreed. There are many economic factors to consider making direct comparisons of price paid somewhat irrelevant.

Sometimes people pay $20k or $30k OVER sticker price simply because of supply and demand. I know 2013 Shelby Mustang pre-orders are doing so. Rare cars aren't so cut and dry when it comes to pricing. So and so wants it, and he's willing to pony up and open his wallet, he gets it.

Let's face it, the cost of living in say NY, NY is probably double or triple that of life in (let me think of a state that won't offend anyone) South Dakota? So simple economics say that the exact same car in NY, NY WILL sell for more than the same car in South Dakota.

Add in the fact that most Mazda dealers (which aren't as plentiful as Ford or Chevy dealers) have 1 or maybe 2 MS3s on their lot. So its more likely you'll HAVE to buy from dealer X because you want or don't want the tech package and you want red, or blue, or black, or plum crazy purple. Its more likely that there isn't another car within 300 miles to which you can go to the dealership and "haggle." And dealers aren't fond of car swaps even if it is a sale. Now of course we could always order the car and wait 8 or 10 weeks but who does that? Let's face it cars are expensive toys, especially an MS3, and impulsive decisions are rampant during the purchasing process.

This is why I don't give a rats ass about who paid what for what. Now if this OP is going to pay $24k for a USED MS3 then yes that is a red flag. But a non-tech out the door for $22k vs the same car out the door for $25k is like saying I picked up a sack of Idaho potatoes in Idaho for 10% less than I usually pay in New York.

Buddhamonk 09-25-2012 09:52 PM

I got mine new for 2000 sacks of potatoes in idaho. Dealer didn't want cash...

texasboy21 09-26-2012 06:11 PM

2012, 24K sticker.

Sweetsandman 09-26-2012 06:34 PM

Got my '12 with Tech package just over a month ago with 6000 miles on it for 21,499

I Tapped that

Dumyz 09-28-2012 11:13 PM

I got mine for this! I got mine for that! ... GTFO with that shit :squintfinger: This was a surprisingly painful thread to read.

shane666 09-28-2012 11:26 PM

I agree. that's to much. I picked up my 2010 with tech 1 owner about a year and a half ago with 6300 miles on it for 19995. It only has 13000 on it now. Shop around you can find a good deal somewhere else.

lamaro88 09-30-2012 07:15 PM

freakin sales guy tried tellin me today that the new mazdaspeed3 goes for 30k. i just laughed at him and said umm actually no.

xirockid 10-01-2012 07:12 AM

In all negotiations treat it like home shopping. Look for comparable products in your area. If it's not in your area it's not as much of a threat to the local dealer.

snailmail 10-01-2012 01:11 PM

24,000 is a lot bud, i got a 12 leftover for 22,000 w/o tech.

lamaro88 10-01-2012 01:53 PM

I know its alot and i would never pay that much. Im not new to car buying. I just think its funny how the sales guy still tries to tell me that new ms3 goes for 30k even tho i told him no it doesn't.

I noticed after owning it for 3weeks that I don't even notice the torque steer anymore. At first i thought I was doing it wrong but even wot I don't notice it.

Yeah man, it just takes some getting used to. Eventually you realize that you need to actually hold the wheel and not limp wrist that shit.

Get you an avatar man. God, Seth is an ugly motherfucker.

ms3rick 10-07-2012 06:51 AM

:) get a tune if u want some tq steer
