oh yes, i knew that, somehow it slipped my mind while typing frustratingly. if your maf housing is plastic you can cut slits in it and use thin metal strips and rtv them in place, i've seen that done before on my old car forum. or get a cheap airbox and cut that housing off

Wow guy its not even failing now. I haven't even got another check engine light yet. I was told the wrong size from jcspeed but it seems to be working. I'll fix it to the right size anyway and it will be fine. If blows who gives a fuck. I'll learn not to leave something out re next time. It's warrentied anyhow.

I hand made this lol. Your pricing is way wrong and over board. I wont fail. Just bc you only have the skills to swipe your card a bunch of times doesn't mean that's the only right way to do things. I'm not crying I'm not saying I'm better or anything. All I did is post pictures of what I made and figure out from posting that I made one or two small mistakes that I can easily fix. I just can't understand why some of you are just being asses lol. Whatever I guess. Thanks to all who where helpful. I appreciate it

Lol did you seriously think they were using silicone to save money or be cheap? There's a reason why these companies do things. But by all means go all out against them and their years of research.

among evverything else has mentioned, your MAF sensor is WAY too close to the filter... especially without an air straightener

Oh, and this thread should've been avoided and put here ..... http://www.mazdaspeedforums.org/foru...to-mods-71046/

Ok in all fairness thats not saying what you are wanting. This is more or less engineering, you machine. But to be honest I could care less if you build space shuttles that's awesome though if it were for NASA well that sucks better head to Russia lol. You came in here saying a smart ass comment and you got mad when someone gave you one back. Come on now. Back on topic now I kinda felt that it was probably to close as well after you said something. I don't want a cold air but if I lengthen the pipe I'll have to bend it down behind the fender. If I do that ill only want the filter to really be behind the fender.

Hey man, Im all for the DIY stuff. Good work. Some people dont get the whole "wanting to see if you can do it yourself" mentality. Sure you could have bought something, but there is something to be said for figuring it out and making something yourself. Good luck with it.

You're not engineering anything. You bought off the shelf parts, of dimensions you didn't research(well enough), slapper them together, forgot a piece, and got a cel.
What are your afrs if I may ask? Do you even have a way to view them?

Only if ace promises to engineer it.

ridiculous...

there's just so many way to get the parts cheap. why would you risk your car potentially going bad over this little cheap shit??? because you want to say FU to the people who doubted you on this?? fucking ridiculous.

if you can afford a $20k car, you should definitely be able to afford to pay $100-150 to mod it. If you can't afford it, just don't mod and have fun. It's pretty fun as in stock form too.

so much fail in this thread.

we arent bashing the fact that he did it himself

we are bashing the fact he did it himself the wrong way....it is bad design, uses a too big maf tube, has no straightener, and throws lean codes

we only praise DIY if it is done the right way

and imo...i do DIY's that save me hundreds.....not twenties

My DIY intake has worked flawlessly and was on the car when i made 288 whp / 340 lb/ft
i still catch shit all the time...no big deal though.....Just put the stock airbox back on and do some research man. That lean code will cause you problems eventually...And having it make a cool sound ain't worth blowing the motor.

LOL i didnt buy off the wall parts. I had pieces of tubing sitting around the shop at work. Have you even looked at my pictures. The only thing bought off the wall is the filter and couplers which are from injected performance which is kinda now dynosty.

I am not making this to prove anyone wrong, its for me and me only. Everyone trolling, go do it else where. You all are the reason why haltech had to send out a mess and if this site loses members it will be do to those who are trolling now, not giving any useful/ good advice or anything. Im done with this thread, you all say what you want, ill post a new thread when its finished the right way. And for Tokay, your the greatest i know and will forever worship your all knowings of speeds and space and life and everything you know which is everything. Bravo my man....bravo

Don't get all upset man. I honestly wouldn't have trolled you if it wasn't for your original post asking for advice on doing this mod yourself. Chances are, if you have to ask, you probably aren't ready to engineer this piece. It's more than just a pipe and a filter.

What makes these company's CAI so great. I'm no expert but I think you could make one out of alluminum pipe lol. Yea it may not be pretty at first but you can polish metal or put a nice coat of paint on there. Even buy a speed sticker an slap it on if you feel daring eh... I'm thinking you could still pull close to the same hp out of a homemade one.

Any thoughts on such a daring endeavor???
I'm a mechanical engineering senior in college and I still would prefer to buy something based on others years of research rather than my own hobby. At least for now.
