First Mod

So Im thinking of doing my first mod to my gen2. Im trying to decide between a RMM and SRI. Which should I take on first?

MazdaASM 05-26-2011 07:43 PM

in before fail!

rmm...

good job on the avatar and donation... it will buy you more patience from most members

EURO05 05-26-2011 07:46 PM

i'd say go with the rmm first, get rid of the engine movement, there are plenty of choices out there. then pull together some money here and there for the sri.

dirty_derka 05-26-2011 07:49 PM

depends on what you want...i havnet but a rmm in yet cause i havent had the chance to call the dealer and see if said mod will void the warrenty, got a sri just cause i really really needed to do something to it lol the stock intake would be easier to put back in if something screwed up and i had to take it back to the dealer, but a rmm is def on the top of my list for mods

Kaslash 05-26-2011 07:55 PM

I am tempted to just get both, but have a feeling I should put one in at a time to feel the difference

I've been reading through posts and got a lot of useful info. I have no prob donating toward a great community!

I would also think a RMM would be easier to pull out than an SRI if I had to bring to a dealer.

themytb 05-26-2011 08:09 PM

im not sure on the genpoo but genwon rmm is easier to go back to stock. best advice= search button, next best get em both. the better shifting and better ride is the rmm, the powaa is the sri. And yes being green definately saved your ass from some charring here.:moon:

BLK_MS3 05-26-2011 09:03 PM

RMM, then I'd do Motorcraft tranny fluid and a weighted knob. Then an SRI...

KusteLokal 05-26-2011 09:15 PM

Definetly go rmm. I got a CAI before a rmm. big mistake, engine moved more with out the RMM, after wards, feels like a different, better, car

JS + MS3 05-26-2011 09:40 PM

get both at the same time

aaronc7 05-26-2011 09:49 PM

well you've already done the best mod...donation mod lol.

get both at the same time. if i could only get one at a time...id get intake first

MazdaASM 05-26-2011 09:51 PM

rmm will help you be a better driver and get used to the car...

RMM is easier to buy a bland one that looks stock, would have to be a dbag of a tech to note an aftermarket RMM unless your in for a related issue

Don't let the dealer scare you out of an RMM. You should install it yourself, it literally takes 10 minutes. They'll try to tell you that this and that voids your warranty like they were some secret service searching your car every day. If anything should happen, all you have to do is keep the stock one and put it back. If you service your car at the dealership they can't do anything. There's no "database" to void your warranty. All Mazda can do is deny a warranty claim because of aftermarket parts. So go get your JBR RMM.

^^yeah^^

JBR RMM looks like sex...

but i recommend GT60 for first mod...

yea i know all of that i know most mods besides turbo swaps or major component changes have to be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that the after market part caused it...aka if my turbo failed they couldnt blame it on the rmm but would have to proove that the sri did it to void my warrenty. and i am still researching the rmm but jbr is def leading right now...gonna be ordering stage two shift kit and weighted shift knob w in the next few days...that way when i get back to the states i have boxes of stuff to help me scratch the mod bug

adlpb 05-27-2011 09:59 AM

If you're looking to cutting down your shift throw and making shifting a lot easier, get the JBR RMM, JBR weighed knob (.65kg), and stage 2 Short Shifter Plate (with bushings). Installation for all these takes about 1 hour. But your car will never be the same. 40% throw reduced, shifts go where you want them, highly recommended. A lot cheaper than other brands like TWM, and better construction IMO.

Lol you're lucky you have internet over there. When I went to Ramadi in 2006 we had internet once a month if that. But that's infantry life for ya. Stay safe over there.

I placed the order for the SU RMM. They are out of stock as of now, but should be getting them in mid June.

Have you checked out the jbarone rmm's?

I wouldn't hesitate for a second to recommend his products.

You can pay more and wait 2 weeks for it, or cancel that and pay less for a better quality JBR RMM that will ship the day you place the order. Your choice. I'm just telling you because I've read posts/threads about SURE RMM fitment issues. Can't say the same for JBR.

Kaslash 05-27-2011 01:03 PM

No I havent checked out jbarone. I just noticed a few people talking about his stuff. Is there a big difference between SU and jbarone? I got the street version of the SU since this is my everyday car.

rfinkle2 05-27-2011 01:09 PM

If it were me, I'd get the lower of the 2 durameters from Jamie. I don't think there is a single negative review of any of his products on the entire site.

If you think about that for a second, you'll understand why everyone recommends JBR products.

The difference btwn. the sure duro and JBR duro is negligible.

Besides the quality of everything he makes, his customer service is excellent as well.

adlpb 05-27-2011 01:16 PM

I agree. Check it out:

James Barone Racing

You won't regret it. Get the 70dm if you don't plan on taking your car to the track.

Kaslash 05-27-2011 01:22 PM

Took everyones advice and went ahead and ordered the JBR, cancelled the SU.

Soto 05-27-2011 01:34 PM

Good shit

I'm going with a jbr once I get some cash

Jamie = vendor god on msf

When modding, I hate to put anything on my car that is not @ least = to factory quality, and JBR's products are a step up from oem, imo.

MS33SM 05-27-2011 02:00 PM

If JBR makes it, buy it

EvilMonkey 05-27-2011 08:47 PM

JBR's stuff is the shiz!!! Stage 2 shift kit and weighted knob and rmm!

QNman 06-13-2011 11:27 AM

I'm also a noob here, and looking at my first mod... which will DEFINITELY be a RMM. First time I slammed the engine into the firewall, I thought I'd run over a log or something. If I can't control the stock engine from slapping into the firewall, there's no sense increasing anything.

I am checking with Mazda about whether it will affect the factory warranty. My local service guy says he thinks Mazda will punt and say it will void the warranty, but he says unless it was directly related to the RMM, he wouldn't even comment on it during a warranty visit. (in fact, he also said most of techs probably wouldn't even notice it wasn't OEM unless it was being inspected for warranty work).

JBR 06-13-2011 11:45 AM

My mounts are black and very tough to detect. Not like the polished aluminum or bright anodized mounts.

Thanks,
Jamie

forcedinduktion 06-13-2011 12:07 PM

The red bushing kind of gives it away. I have a trz poly and love it, i really wan to try the JB rmm tho.....

There's no such thing as voiding a warranty. They can only deny a claim. You should be able to install the RMM yourself. Keep your stock one and if you ever need to do warranty related work put it back. Don't let those dealers intimidate you. Now go get your JBR RMM.
