First mod: Complete!

Well, technically second, but I don't really count the shifter bushings.

Anyway, I finally got my CAI installed last night (cp-e), and am quite pleasantly surprised by the "whoosh" I get when the turbo spools now.

I'd heard it in videos before, but It's much more awesome/audible in person.

Speed3in215 02-26-2013 04:30 PM

having any aftermarket intake will open the oem bpv. also quite expected you will the turbo spool of course

esestak 02-26-2013 04:38 PM

Yeah i love the sound i get now. I put a COBB SRI and a corksport TIP and it's surprisingly loud, even moreso with my new BPV.

Moonshine Jack 02-26-2013 04:50 PM

Yeah. I'm buying a TIP this weekend, and in retrospect, I probably should have waited on installing the CAI and done both at once...

Also, totally off topic, does anyone have an opinion as to which short shift plate to use: CorkSport or JBR?

galens47 02-26-2013 04:53 PM

I'm fond of the JBR ssp, but haven't tried the CS one.

Do you like the bushings? Were they hard to install? I suppose it would give me a chance to clean out the crumbs.

Cheers,

G

The bushings are actually a pretty nice upgrade, and certainly make it easier to shift "hard". Pulling the stock bushings out was actually something of a pain in the ass, as they're solid rubber pieces and there's no way to extract them easily, and the back two are kind of difficult to get to without beating the crap out of your hands.

After that, getting the new bushings in is extremely easy, though you have to be mindful not to let them slide off into the nether-regions of your car.

I suggested on another thread to modify a paint can pry tool to pull the back two bushings out but some douchebag here decided to talk smack about it being useless and that they come out easy.

I have the SURE shifter plate, happy with it.

Speed3in215 02-26-2013 05:08 PM

never experience a SSP . how much of an improvement in the shifting?

soren40 02-26-2013 05:14 PM

just fitted a sure short shift mate and really easy to do, just be careful you dont damage the plastic fitment when trying to get it of the ball, i used a flat screwdriver and gently agitated it off, when fitted it feels a lot stiffer in the gears and no play, once fitted just make sure you can get all your gears before driving off, haha, i have heard one or two had to play with it to get second gear, but it is a good little mod for the price of the plate

It reduces the length of throw of the shifter. It feels "Tighter". It's worth it.

Moonshine Jack 02-26-2013 05:26 PM

JBR SSP: Claims to reduce shift-throw by as much as 40%. Adjustable, and also claims it "eliminates binding and rubbing of the shift cables unlike the other short shift plates kits on the market."

CorkSport SSP: Claims to reduce shift-throw by as much as 40%. Adjustable, but also contradicts itself in the details and says 32% max reduction.

SURE SSP: Claims to reduce shift-throw by 35.2%. Non-adjustable, but the coolest looking of the 3, for what it's worth.

I like CorkSport as a brand, but it seems like SURE or JBR is the way to go...

Speed3in215 02-26-2013 05:48 PM

that sounds like something i need to get along with a jbr rmm for some smoother shifts

makjur 02-26-2013 08:53 PM

i decided to forget about a SSP after reading this thread

msantana101 02-26-2013 08:58 PM

I'm running a 1st gen non-adjustable JBR SSP, top notch quality and it looks cool :D

Its a very noticeable improvement, everything feels solid and stiff.

I know you dont mean to single out JBR, just short shift plates in general

derpatapped

galens47 02-27-2013 05:20 PM

I've got the jbr bushing, ssp, and weighted knob. So far I've only installed the knob and ssp. The reduced throws are impressive. 5th and 6th were hard to get initially, but once I got used to it, they are easy. The heavy knob sucks in cold/hot and in actuality it doesn't change the advantage much. I haven't switched back, liking the knob quite a bit.

The following helped with shifting for me: rmm, fluid, ssp/knob. The pmm and tmm have helped, but they are more about preventing wheel hop. I occasionally have to dbl clutch into 1st from a roll, not a big deal.

Cheers,

G
