First Mods.. I posted a thread awhile back about buying a brand new '12 Speed in September and around 5k miles kept throwing CEL codes for random misfires every two days. Didnt feel the misfires while driving & dealership tried "everything" (calling in the "special regional MS3 tech", blaming me for not putting in 93 gas, changing coils and other parts, completely replacing ECU, etc) & couldnt figure out what was wrong so after my 5th visit in a month, they told me/I told them that they were just gonna find me a new car... ..Anyways, I should be getting it early next week. Lurking on this website has got me so jealous of everyone's rides/mods, and driving a loaner for the past month (Volvo C30 T5 R-design) while they find me a new car has got me itching to get back in my (new) speed and finally getting some mods. ________ So again, after all the lurking and reading everyones advice I'm thinking about: CP-e Stage 2 rmm (~$200) SURE Aeros (~$200) And trying to decide whether to go with the JBR Stage 2 Kit (SSP, weight, knob, bushings - ~$170) OR keeping on with SURE and getting the same things (Short-cut, Countershift, Anchors, stock knob ~$150) Thats about ~$600 which is enough go fast mods to start for now/all I can afford, but am I missing anything? What do you guys think? _________ Im saving an extra ~$200-$300 to get tints , HID kit 35w (5k or 6k? I want blue but not too blue..Ive heard 5k is basically white when warmed up but 6k is too blue sometimes), and maybe yellow fogs(HID kit? Yellow lamin-x type covers? Yellow halogens?)... _________ I'm thinking about waiting till the April 21st meet at OCC that @Grumpyjap is throwing together to see what these mods look like first hand, and to talk to the vendors, but I dont know if I can wait that long.. But anyways, cant wait to get started but just wanted to get everyone's input, and see if I'm headed in the right direction, and if I'm forgetting anything or spending money on something where I should be getting something else. Thanks to everyone in advance for their advice and overall knowledge on the car itself. |

Ha the cpe rmm, and sure aeros were my first mods. Preceeded by my ssp. The end of April is a long time to wait... Power to dollars, first mod, can't beat an intake. Do the sidewinder at the same time unless you have dreams of bt. I saw your other thread, I'm sure you've seen the ap and hpfp lectures a million times since then so ill spare you. They're all true though. |
yeah i guess its just semantics by "go fast" i kinda meant precaution and i guess "pre-go fast mods" lol and is the sidewinder necessary to get the AEROS, or can that wait till i get more cash to spend on that, the AP, and the internals? Also, I want a more "throaty" feel/noise to my exhaust. Should I go cheap and do resonator delete or again wait till I have more $$ and do the whole DP/Exhaust? Anddd I live in NY where tint is illegal, so whack, so I dont know what % tint to get either.. so many questions, i know, sorry in advance! |
no problem, your asking good questions (imo). I personally would (and did) just save to get a full TBE. But i'm sure some of the guru's will pop in and give you some more sound advice. have you read the "intro to your speed" thread yet? that has alot of good info. |
yeah ive read it but now that you mentioned it going back and looking at it now that i have learned so much more it is that much more informational. i just realized that SURE aeros+sidewinder = ~$350 while corksport stage 2 SRI comes with TIP for ~$250....hmmmm |
The sidewinder is not necessary, but will give you some gains. The intake must be removed to install it. That's why they are commonly purchased and installed together. I suggested you leave it if you have bt plans because your intake on a bt will be a different size than the output of the sidewinder. |
cpe rmm is overpriced, just go with the best which is jbr. |
If you want something a little blue-ish, I would get 6000K. I have 5000K and they're pretty white. 8000K has a good amount of blue. I have 3000K 35w hids + yellow lamin-x fog overlays and I recommend getting both of em to get a nice yellow color. |

ah i missed that guess i need glasses, bad thing is i skimmed over it again in case i missed it. In my defense its late as fuck or early whatever. |
CS SRI/TIP +1 ftw! Better price, same result. Hope you don't mind waiting if u want black on black, though.... |
I'm going to go with the corksport personally because I want the air box as well and I dont feel like figuring out if it will fit the other intakes or not, plus comes with both SRI+TIP for a good price. Its metal/aluminum piping as opposed to silicone, I hear the only difference metal intake shit makes is that its slightly louder, but probably not by much Also planning to get fuel pump internals, RMM (JBR, not sure what one yet), shift plate, weight, bushings, and boost gauge with the defroster pod thing (in June) from all of my reading this seems like the typical/ideal genpu mod "starter kit" |
Good to see Mazda took care of you, even if it did take forever. |
Id move to put an AP, autotech internals, and a race pipe to the top of your list. Its unreal the power difference you can feel with just those 3 and you wont have to worry about your shitty stock fp internals going out on you... just my 2cents. |
