Well, I consider the harbor freight special a pretty crappy jack.

It creaks and makes funny noises, but it gets the job done and has for years with repetitive use.

I was thinking more along the lines of personal safety. You're not under the car when you're jacking it up.

Harbor Freight baby!

2.5" to 24", don't need to drive up on 2x6's, just slips right under the nose, and it's body is long enough to reach the rear diff when the front is on jack stands

Low Profile Floor Jack - 2 Ton, Rapid Pump® Jack

Love that freaking thing!
Don't believe that 3.5 pumps to lift most loads bull tho- It's no race jack! Other than that, and getting used to the weight of a real jack, this thing kicks ass!

edit to add- they have several that are similar, but this is the only one with these specs. It took a while to get one in to my local HF, and even then they only got two, and both were sold the same day (mine & one other, we both left the store at the same time, joking about the PITA it was to get them...)

Thanks for the coupons ! I just bought the 1.5 Ton jack for $139. I take it back for the 2 ton one for the same price. I have a 6 and don't trust that little one for $69. Which got bad reviews BTW. The one for $79 is heavy as fuck. It ways over 60lbs!

OTC 3-ton stinger. I bought it about 2 years ago for $98, price has gone up since...but still...96 pounds of pure jacking power. I didn't care about weight, it just sits on the garage floor waiting to be used.

This is what I've learned from my jack experience..don't spend over 150$.

Make sure it can go up as high as your jack stands otherwise they'll make fun of you when you return it..not that I've done that or anything

IMO don't go aluminum, you're not riding the thing around, it's a jack, spend more money on one that's not aluminum, will probably be a better jack overall. Also aluminum will bend if it's not perfectly level..even though its a bad idear to not be on a level surface

Don't go under a 2 ton if you do work a lot, and rapid pump is nice.

I have a pittsburgh 2 1/4 ton from harbor freight, low profile, I think it was 80$ if I remember right

I've had an auto-zone jack for 5 years its cheap and reliable. I bought the kit witch came with a crawler, 2 jack stands and a jack. They've worked great

My Walmart jack is crapping out on me after a few months. Almost slams the car when lowering. No bueno. Going to start shopping around for a racing jack.

Worth stressing again that reading the specs is worth your time when jack shopping!

My old, but trusted, autozone jack served me well for many years. It won't fit under a lowered car without driving up on 2x6's tho, and doesn't lift high enough to easily use jackstands.

Average range for parts store $50 jack- 5" - 15"

I linked to a HF jack a few posts up- 2.5" - 24"

I cannot stress enough how nice it is to have the extra range! Especially when my jack stands start at 15"....

Resurrecting thread to add the newly released steel/aluminum hybrid Costco Arcan 2.5 ton jack for $99.

Detailed specs

With the Costco warranty, I'll be taking that little 1.5 ton aluminum jobber I bought back to HF right meow. This is portable enough being under 60lbs.

If you don't have a Costco membership, consider too that they carry Michelin Pilot Super Sports at the same cost as DTD / Tire Rack, and will roadside/nitrogen fill/prorate for $15/tire installed.
