Gen 2 really goes boom
 

Have a very short clip of a 2011 MS3 blown motor. Not my car but a friends. 9K on the motor. Car was stage 2 with AP. Happened when it was very cold out (car was already warmed up) It happened either 1st or 2nd gear, part throttle.
Has anyone seen anything like this?


After what happened to my friends car I couldn't help but take it easy with mine...But that short lived lol

MODS: CS SRI/TIP/CPE catted DP/AT internals/UR CBE/TS BPV /AP stage 2 partial tune. believe it was in MAF CAL stages... But has driven in this stage of the tune for a bit.

What were his mods? pro tune?

Damn that always sux to see. Op ask your buddy if he had any weird vibes in his clutch pedal. My money is on him going wot at low rpms/high gear alot bent the rod and it then decided to make a sunroof.

Bad tunes blow motors. Period.

Bad tune? Miss shifted? Bad FP internal? Happen to have a log?

Ask him if he did anything stupid. Because the car just doesn't go boom like that for no reason. There has to be a reason. :shrug:

So had to have been the cpe full length dp and the ur tp. That silly guy had too many parts on his car

No log. Don't have much more info. It did throw a code. I forget what it was. Will ask another friend later since he pulled the code. I blamed the partial tune myself but owner states he has had it with the partial tune for a bit and has got on it a lot harder before. I guess this was part throttle, doesn't remember too well, it happened so fast and suddenly.

How much does he want for the Cbe?

Any datalog before the engine blew? It would be interesting to see how things looked prior to it going pop.

What was he doing before the engine popped? How long had he been driving it, and did he just get off the freeway? These may seem like odd questions, but entertain me.

It's Mazda's latest fix for better crankcase breathing.
Nothing to see here.

The Gen2 motors are less prone to this - something else was going on here.

I had that fix in Dec. Worked wonders! The car didn't use any gas for a whole month!

Maybe the problems haven't been solved completely for the gen2 ms3?

Did your boy have a catch can or any PCV work done?

It sounds as if you have a theory on why these things seem to give up after being on the freeway. I'm all ears when you have a free moment.

I'm definitely thinking it's too much mods before good tune....bent rod, and as tuning began it put too much stress on the motor and boom

Fuck all that noise. Although I have a Gen2 with PERM tune/upgraded internals, OCC, EGR delete, etc--there are still rules that I follow-- No wot unless warmed up, no wot below 3k, and no wot on super cold ass days.

I am guessing something had to have gone wrong with the tune. All we can do is speculate unless the driver shows us his map or has a log.

Sorry guys. I have been very busy with my coming up move to Cali and havent been able to get much more info. All I know is what I have already said (partial tune but he wasn't on it hard when this happened). The dealer couldn't even pull the code cause the battery cable was unhooked for a while. Dealer says they have seen blown motors but never anything like this and it was a defect with engine. Of course, this is not knowing the entire story. I personally demodded his car, car was covered under warranty and everything was sold. I wouldn't post it up otherwise.


Rob, this is another friend. BUT that friend did give him the tune he was on when it blew lol

I will get more info on the tune and such a lil later. Again no logs or anything. I have another longer video of blown motor, nothing special. If you guys want to see it let me know.

thats exactly where my gen 1 blew up, my rod hit my axle and bent the axle i had to buy a new passenger axle but where is all the oil your lucky it did not crack the pan thats a mild blow up tbh mine was falling in 2 pieces entire block was cracked

Just called the friend that did tune and pull the code. Only code that he found was something about cam angle. Not sure if I can get the map, I will see.
