Gen 3 - Confirmed by the dealer
 

Went to the dealer to drop off my car this morning, and got an update from them that the body styling for Gen 3 has been confirmed - it will resemble the CX-5, just like all their upcoming models. The engine specs have not been confirmed by Mazda, but one of the considerations is a 2.5 DSI Turbo in the vicinity of 300hp. Concept pic is below, that's the body they have confirmed.

There was a thread started in the lady few days about an email sent out to dealerships about no '14 MS3.. This happens a lot with car companies and with do many rumors going around I'm just not sure what to believe until it happens.

I just bought one and I'm posting from inside it right now.

^You can see those spyshots on autoblog. Look a the head and tail lights shapes. They look thinner. Honestly the rear reminds me of a lancer sportback kinda.

if they were to make a AWD verison that means the whole chasis will have to change and i dont think they will redo a chasis. to redo that it will make the car cost even more. the MS3 is cheaper then the wrx sti for a reason. that reason is to steal there business. there been romurs of awd ms3 its not going to happen just get yourself the new ms6 when it comes out

I am liking my happy ass car more after seeing that pic. Looks like a CX-5 rear ended a Ford fusion with a genpu body line on the doors. Fuck what a stealership says. I learned more with a couple drinks on this forum than what the dealer knew before I bought the speed.

Even dumber.

I like the profile of it. Reminds me of a BMW M coupe. I love the hatchback with a long hood. The car needs more to pull it out of the econo-hatch mold that every company is using. My biggest concern is the chance mazda will pinch some pennies and build the new 3 on the current C1 chassis. Would be great to have a CX-5 chassis where the new speed can drop some fat .

If that's what the 3rd gen looks like I'm going to be jealous I didn't hold out.

Then again, if I bought a new one I wouldn't have much money, or the choice, or the library of knowledge on hand to modify it for a while.

The MS3 version of the gen3 won't be out for a few years. The next MS car to be released is a halo car MS6, AWD, 2.5DISI turbo. Likely going to be 2 door coupe. Expect it to be a 2015 model.

My vote was always for turd (third) gen. I am not really big on the look personally, I like my pu even over gen done.

LOOKS GAY! it does make me glad i have a genpuu though. they keep getting worse as gen goes up i guess (genwon looks best :0 wish i couldve gotten one sometimes). i thought they were goin to make a new mazdaspeed 6 ): i like way the new mazda6 looks. not enough power though. needs to compete with ford fusion with a disi turbo with like 320hp >:D

I think it should be called the rectum.

The dealer has also told me that the ms3 is twin turbo. I would take what they say with a grain of salt.

I read on Corksports blog that a patent was found for a super+turbo charged mazda engine.... Maybe thats what the dealer was talking about. Highly doubt it though... Only time will tell

Do we know for sure there is going to be a 2014 MS3? I have been lurking on here for sometime; if it turns out that there isn't going to be a 2014 I will buy a MS3 now. Don't want to buy if there is an awesome 2014 coming, I plan to keep the car 5 years or longer...

There is going to be a 2014 Speed 3, it is the last halo car Mazda has, after scrapping Mazdaspeed Miata, MS6 and RX8. They have to keep something, otherwise the whole zoom-zoom gig that they have spent fortunes in building goes bye-bye.

Mazda is a weird company. They just show up 90 days from delivery stating they have a mazdaspeed model of a certain car. They do absolutely no marketing or commercials for them either.

Mazda needs to follow Ford with how they splattered the ST all over the media circuit. Top Gear USA did give the Genpu good props last week though.

The gen 2 had spy shots published back in October 2008 being tested at the N'Ring in Germany.

I've been told by our DISTRICT manager that the latest "official" news was that there is NO 2014 MS3, and an MS6 is a possibility right now, not confirmed. That was a couple weeks ago.

In addition to being the district manager, he also gets demo cars before their final revisions for testing purposes to drive around. So his word must hold SOME water.

You are only confirming what I already suspect; I am thinking that I will (finally) get a MS3 this year. I have only wanted to get one for the past 3 years; I love my RX8 but it is time for something different. I need more space and just had to have an engine replacement only had 2000 miles left on my warranty :o

2013 is the last year of the current MS3. The next MS3 will follow after the regular 3 so it's 2-3 years out at least.

I was told a different story from our rep 2 weeks ago. He said the mazdaspeed line will continue and said when it is released it will be 6-8 months after the redesigned 3. Which is exactly what they did with the genpu.

I was also told at the regional cx-5 walk around competition that diesel is what they were focusing on as a possibility-almost 8 months ago.

When we had the 2014 Mazda 6. Training the trainer said the 6 platform was not set up to support awd and there would NOT be a speed6.

Mazdaspeed 2 in light of the Fiesta St. Which will leave a nice power gap for them to release an rx7.

Def won't be an ms2, since this is the last year for the 2 in the us as well, that was announced last year.

I hate the trend of the side-view mirrors coming up from the door midway down the door, instead of where the leading edge of the window meets the door. The new Imprezza has it, and it looks like the new 3 is going to have it. Looks cheap and out of place.

I don't think the Fiesta ST will sell well here. It's only 2k cheaper than a Focus ST which is already priced too high and it's not cool enough for that kind of pricing. It would need a real LSD, over 200hp and some real brakes.

So went to Cleveland Auto show last night. Talked to the head guy in the Mazda area...asked about Speed series continuing. He said that from what he has heard, it won't be a 3. He also said they are thinking about a Speed 6 but it's just that, nothing in stone. Also said that it is possible to have AWD in the new 6 but thats still up in the air as well. Take it for what it's worth.

to be fair, the mazda rep at phila auto show said the speed3 had 220 hp. the only thing to do is wait. it would be silly for mazda to drop the speeds altogether; honestly i have faith in them.

Then they will make a speed 5 too...lol :laugh2:

Let's look at this from a practical point of view. Currently what is Mazda racing in Grand-Am in the Rolex GX Class? After a few ocnversations with the father of the Mazdaspeed Program, Todd Kanenko Mada is leaning toward the new 6, as per John Doonan of Mazdaspeed always says, "we race what we sell". The Speed 3 has been production for 6 years now, which is 4 years longer that any other Speed vehicle. With Mazda trying to get its CAFE Standards for mileage up, so it can bring back the rotary it stands to reason we'll be looking at a turbo version of the 6.

That's a 2013. So the only price dropping is the 2012's

Perhaps the 2014 Mazdaspeed 3 will simply be a carryover and the 2014 regular 3 will be the 3rd gen. I guess it doesn't matter for me anyway...I plan to get a 2013 MS3 ASAP :D

I hear that if you lock your gen1 with your gen2 in a garage at night, when you wake up the next morning there will be a gen3 speed with 500whp awd but it cant move without hpfp upgrade

This chassis does have AWD versions, look at the I models in japan are awd also the shared chassi with volvo if I'm not mistaken came in awd. Justsayin

So far it's not looking good for the 2014 MS3...it would be sweet if there was a new Speed6 though. AWD and a 2.5 liter turbo with Skyactiv would be awesome!

Speculation aside, some things we're mostly sure of:

1)The 2014 6 "is claimed to weigh as little as 2954 pounds" (quoted from Automobile, from a Mazda source), and "the Euro-spec sedan with a 2.5-liter gasoline engine, automatic transmission and i-ELOOP brake energy regeneration system weighs 2,992 pounds"
(linky), which is incredible if true. The chassis of the 2014 6 has the skyactiv treatment like the CX-5.
2) The CX-5 and new 6 share architecture, so the CX-5's awd could end up on an MS6.
3) awd adds about 150 pounds to the CX-5.
4) Mazda has to meet strict average mpg minimums, and a 2.0 with twin scroll turbo would get much better mileage than a 2.5/single scroll (think 328i), with comparable performance.

So, use that to build a pretend 2015 MS6 in your head :D

The chances of a 2.5l turbo from Mazda are pretty much nil. I really hope I'm wrong.

Thanks for the info, a 2.0 liter with dual scroll turbo would be interesting. I'm kinda thinking that it's most likely we will be seeing the return of the MS6.

I am hearing a lot of talk of the new speed being a MS6 again...until your post I didn't realize that BMW had gone to a 2 liter 4 in the 328i. I have actually been looking at that car too now...I love Mazda but it's pretty nice. Of course it has a nice price tag also...

I heard that MS3 doesn't exist anymore...it's supposed to come back with a 2 doors version of the mazda6 with 2.5l turbo and AWD

Dealer told me a week ago there will not be a gen 3 coming out. Per dealer, Mazda is working on new RX-9. Don't really know what to believe anymore.

Perhaps y'all will finally come to grips with the fact that dealerships don't know shit about what is and is not coming out especially when it comes to performance vehicles. When I worked at a Chevy dealership...do you know how many times I heard "the new Cruze SS is coming out at the end of this year." Yeah...that was in 2011...then again in 2012.

And in 09 when I was shopping for a Speed3...the dealer told me to wait for the 2010 because it was going to be a 2.5 turbo with 300hp...yeah...they sure have the inside scoop.
