Default Gen pu barely starts up now that it's cold?!?!?

So I'm having this issue now it's happened 3-4 times. First noticed it on the first start up of the day 2 days ago it barely kicked over. Also noticed It didn't rev up as high as usual immediately after start up. I checked the battery last nigh while at work before i started it and it was a full 12.2 volts. I wanna diagnose this myself before I take into the dealer so I know exactly what's wrong and don't get raped for 2 hours of labor again and get no work done. Any ideas?? I'm going after the alternator next. Or is this a normal thing????

Volts have nothing to do with the life of a battery. You need to have it load tested and see how many cca it is putting out. I believe most chain auto parts stores can load test your battery for free. Call first.

Things you can try yourself if the battery seems okay is to clean the terminals if they look nasty.

Okay cool, I thought about load testing it but once I seen the 12.2 it kinda slipped my mind. I'm gonna take it up to my old work and do that tomorrow before I do anything else. Thanks for the help! I'll post tomorrow after the test.

Or you can try measuring the voltage at the battery while someone cranks it to start it up. 12.2V is kind of low, I would think it should be over 13V. How old is the battery?

Batteries have a harder time in the cold, plus oil is thicker and causes the starter to work harder

Battery should test 12.6 volts when fully charged. Depending on how old the battery is and how you drive (short vs long trips) it could be time to replace.

Cold weather and short trips really kill batteries. I had a brand new battery die on me in less 1.5 years because it got so cold out and I was only driving about 3 miles to work everyday.

Battery might be covered under warranty. 12.2v is low. My battery had the same voltage when it failed to start my car on a cold morning.

If not the battery, I would look at a sticking EGR. I had that with my MS3. Now blocked off and tuned, no problems.

I wrote the how to on cleaning it tho.

Was gonna suggest what raider said. If your EGR is stuck open, your car might not start at first when it's cold. clean that shit if you never have.
or rip that pos out

I have similar behavior on cold morning startups. Car does not REV as hight and no squeak from HPFP, but once coolant is at about 75F and you start it then it REV - idles normally and few seconds later you hear squeak from HPFP and you get jump in pressure to above 1800psi
My car has 11K on,

Found this post so i think it is totally normal not sure if it applies to you OP
Cold Start idle less than 2000rpm

Well guys I still get the slow crank every once in a while. Like it starts but doesn't rev as high as usual after start up for the initial 20 seconds or so. I'm gonna check the egr on my next day off. Of course this shit happens when its cold as FUCK!!

So today after I'd say a 5 mile drive before I shut the car down I let it idle for say 20 seconds. Got back in it and it was the weirdest start ever. It clicked right over but sounded as if it barely started and the rpms barely got up to 1200. When it's fully warmed up it shoots to say almost 2 grand like usual then comes down. Haven't had a chance to check the egr yet tho. Does the quick start have something to do with fuel still in the rails maybe??
