Getting a MS3 soon...

Hey guys,

I currently have a 2008 si and am going back to stock as we speak. Im in the market for a Gen2 Speed3, preferably silver or red. Before i get bashed, I will be donating $10 once im done selling my parts on 8thcivic.com. Anyways, back to the car, the money i make off the si parts will be going to towards the MS3. Its going to be about $1500-1700 bucks to throw in. I have a buddy who has a 2008 speed3 and hes got an intake, turbo inlet, and downpipe, and he shits on everything. I was thinking intake, cobb, coils as a start. What intake and coils do you guys suggest or do you suggest springs and get a downpipe too? Let me know your thoughts, im excited to be zoom zooming soon.

there is a difinitive intake thread in the gen 2 turbo induction section. read that. i thought that question may have been beaten to death but i guess not...

SWAY 06-16-2011 11:45 AM

welcome, get a rmm, intake, and accessport for first mods

I_Heart_Haters 06-16-2011 11:46 AM

yeah i heard about the rmm too. im trying to get coils though, any suggestions on those?

MS33SM 06-16-2011 11:57 AM

Here is a quick n00b guide:

SRI>CAI
Blue no shims
DON'T RUN VTA
CBE is for sound, DP is for powa
SRI + RMM + BPV + AP = 1,000,000x more fun than stock and easy to stock out for dealer visits.
n00dz of GF are appreciated

SWAY 06-16-2011 12:04 PM

adlpb 06-16-2011 12:35 PM

For $1700 I'd go in this order:

Cobb SRI = $160
JBR RMM = $120
Cobb AP = $595
KMD Internals = $330
Ultimate Racing DP+TP = $545

Total = $1751

After these performance mods you can strat looking into the external mods such as springs/coils. There's a huge price difference between springs and coilovers. If you just want a basic 1.5" drop for street performance, get H&R springs ($200). If you're looking for a lower ride for occasional track use, Koni's run aroudn $1800.

SWAY 06-16-2011 12:39 PM

if you donate and pm maperformance theyll hook you up on the ap and other shit, like discount hookup

There is no question that fuel pump internals and an accessport should be first on your list.

Here is a link to Cobb's suggested upgrade path...

robry 06-16-2011 12:55 PM

nice, good luck with the purchase, I went from a turbo'd 06 rsx-s to the ms3 (after I parted out, returned to stock and sold my rsx) and I can tell you, driving the completely stock n/a RSX vs the MS3 is no comparison. Doubtful you had as many mods, but the torque down low in these cars is much better than anything honda will sell anytime soon, even the new k24 powered SI.

Oh yeah and search on the fueling issues on the genpu. A HPFP is mandatory before you get an AP. You can't up the boost or do much tuning without one.

dizzydtrain 06-16-2011 12:57 PM

When you say stock out the civic, does that mean a fresh set of batteries?

I came from a fully bolted Si as well and this will be a huge upgrade even if you just stay stock.

I would not suggest a Cobb intake since occassionally some of the Gen2 guys have issues with cel's and their cars not running the way they should. I would suggest a Corksport SRI/TIP combo, SURE SRI, or Cp-e Nano.

Definitely get a RMM--James Baron makes some awesome shit for our cars including rear motor mounts and short shift plates.

Get an Accessport as soon as you can but before that make sure to upgrade your fuel pump/internals.

Make sure to donate so that you can get access to the for sale section where you can buy all of the aforementioned items at a discounted cost.

Welcome.

2011speed 06-16-2011 01:29 PM

Welcome to the world of torque. And in a former Honda owner myself so fyhn

I_Heart_Haters 06-16-2011 02:53 PM

Haha well shit, I cant wait for torque and I appreciate all of the input. Will put it all into consideration. Like I said, once im done parting out the Si, I will drop my membership from that forum and start up here. Test drove a gen1 and gen2, but really like the feel of the gen2 better for some reason. Again thanks for the input.

EvilMonkey 06-16-2011 04:08 PM

The Gen 2 feels stronger suspension wise stock for stock to the Gen 1.

robry 06-16-2011 04:38 PM

read the insideline article about the improvements to the gen2, it's a pretty interesting read. they basically drove a gen1 car, then made tweaks to improve the gen2 car. tested them back to back to get an idea on how to make it better.

Genpu kicks ass, but smiles like there is no tomorrow

Bishounen0205 06-17-2011 07:17 AM

I know everyone usually says intake and motor mount first, but the way I chose this time around was motor mount and Cobb ap first, then either intake or fuel pump internals. That way you can monitor stuff from the very beginning and mod whichever way you want without worry. As far as parts, I've bought my motor mount, short shift plate and bushings from jbarone, and I really can't complain, awesome products for cheap too, great service and fast shipping.

robry 06-17-2011 08:30 AM

If you an own android, you can grab torque and a plx kiwi bluetooth adapter for 105$. This will give you everything except KR right now. Although it sounds like this is being worked on and eventually we will be able to monitor it.

just a thought if you didn't want to spend 600$ on an AP right away.

I_Heart_Haters 06-17-2011 09:58 AM

All great helpful information. I will definitely be getting an intake first. Not too sure what will come after that. As for the smile, im kinda getting used to it and its not as bad.

I never see the smile because I'm in the driver's seat, and if I race anyone they only see taillights.

Haters gonna hate.

MD isn't TOO far from NJ.

My MS3 is stock except for HID's and a clutch.
