I really don't like or read many noob threads, but this was fun. OP is entertaining for being so confident but lacking the knowledge.

OP do you have a US or Aussie spec MS3? cause you woudn't be able to use the cobb AP otherwise.

Having been burned for making a noob thread myself i know how pissed off you must be but you gotta look at it from their point of view. These guys have answered these questions a hundred times and got tired of it so they made all these stickies and new member threads and filled them with tons of tried and trued advice. It has above a 95 RON rating. I realize it is difficult for you to understand the idea of averaging two different ratings instead of just taking the highest number and going with that.

The fact that you try to personally attack me over pm is comical and just proves you are the one who's butt needs cooling. Lets see here according to NADA my car books at 15,500 and I actually own it.

You are upset because you chose to post before you read and started spraying bogus information, You were corrected. Instead of owning up to your stupid post you tried to change the original statement by using a different fuel as an example. got called out again.

Its only been installed for 2 weeks lol. Next drag day is August 3rd so we will find out then. I'm waiting for another Nator Dyno day to see what it does.

ha ha @Black Metal, your awesome man! We NEED to get that thing on the dyno. We will need to start getting another dyno day put together. My numbers probably have not changed at all but IDGAF.

To op: search function works fine. You can not expect to come to a forum and find your exact question answered when it comes to a question like yours in your original post. No I don't live with my parents, I'm married and own a real house (without wheels.) Not in anything you posted or linked to does it list MON or AKI. I actually wish our pumps would show the actual RON and MON ratings because MON is actually much more important for our cars, but I'm sure you already knew that. The site you linked to has various blanket statements and I would hesitate to believe anyone that tried to tell me that higher octane will improve fuel mileage performance and emissions without any tuning to utilize the fuel. This is fucking gay and it is pointless to argue with someone as dense as you.

Not much, the only thing that would possibly help power would be the IM port. If I had to take a guess I would say I'm around 380awhp or so corrected. Virtual Dyno shows just a hair over 400 on average.

@Ripper I found the below info.. Maybe this will stop the piece of shit attitude you are dishing out.


America uses a Octane rating system different from Eurasia. The US rating system is run off of AKI or PON and Eurasia uses a RON rating system

RON(Research or Road Octane Number) That number is how well the fuel resists knock at a certain CR. This is lab tested with no variation except the CR. So if your fuel is 98 RON that means it’s 98% iso-octane and 2% n-heptane.

MON(Motor Octane Number)is the same test as RON but the intake and temp is higher, and it’s at a higher RPM. MON is a better rating for seeing how well a gas resists knock under load.
In Example

Motor Octane Test (MON) Research Octane Test (RON)
Inlet air temperature 148.9 C 65.6 C
Engine jacket temp 100 C 100 C
Engine RPM 900 600

MON’s rating will also usually be 6-10 points lower than RON.


AKI(anti-knock index) or PON(Pump Octane Rating) is the sum of the fuels RON and MON Rating divided by 2. That’s why you see (R+M)/2 on your petrol pump when you go to fill your car up.

So if a fuels RON is 98 and the MON is 88 and you divide that by 2 you get our gas rating

(R+M)/2 = (98+88)/2 = 93
98+88= 186
186/2 = 93
See how that works?

See how the Eurasian pump number isn’t much higher than the US’s?
