Default Going to be a Dad soon, any advise for car seats?

Ok so a few weeks back I got the news I'm going to be a dad. Already Eleven weeks in this world. I've read some of the posts here about car seats but if I can get any more advise on the rear facing car seat department for our cars, i'll gladly take it.
Anyone knows of a good place to buy a rear seat cover? I saw that idea here too.

I've had 2 speeds and i'm a dad of 2, my son is 6 and my daughter is almost 2. As for a safety, you can't go wrong with Britax, Peg Perego. Perego is easier to fit in our cars as they are a more compact design. As for the Recaro, they are not available in Canada but there safety rating is excellent and from what I read about them, they offer a lower profile design compared to others.

Do yourself a favor and get yourself a seat protector. I have one from Prince Lionheart available at Babys r Us and it saves your seats from......well, kids are disgusting slobs.

You will like the recaro but consider using a carrier until the baby out grows it. More convenient to just lift the carrier in and out if they are asleep

Plus it's more fun to beat someone in a race with a carseat in the back.

@blam1; said it right. Use the carrier until she can sit facing forward. Then order matching recaros for you and the wifey

I've got a Chicco keyfit 30 but my wife had to set up pretty close to the dash. I figures most rear facing seats will be this way.

Congrats! I have a 2 week old, but haven't tried out the rear facing seat we have right now to see how well it fits.

Check the thread out. Tons of info.

This is the one I have my youngest on. It's a bit pricey but it's good from 5 lbs to 100 lbs.

It all depends on your price. What car or truck it is going in. and most importantly safety. My wife and I bought this combo kit,Chicco Cortina stroller and car seat with the base. Then we bought a second base for her car. The car seat fit great in my old mazda 6 and her mountaineer.

Well our son quickly grew out of that one length wise and weight wise. So we bought two of Lamaze True Fit C670 Premier Convertible Car Seat . It pushed the passenger side seat way forward. It made my car hard to have someone in the front passenger side seat.

My best advise is take the car seat out to the car. Test fit it.

I used Britax up until my daughter had to get into a booster. Britax is one of the best rated car seats out there.

We had a Chico keyfit 30 and really liked it. It helped that we only had to buy 1 seat and 2 bases to cover both cars. Extra bases are fairly easy to find at garage sales.
All rear-facing seats are going to fit like crap back there. Just isn't enough room. So read the safety reviews and get the safest model that you can afford. End of the day that's really what it's about.
Oh, and make sure the seat works with the LATCH system. Makes it almost idiot-proof to install the seat.

We used this: MARATHON - Car Seats - Britax USA

Then this: FRONTIER 90 - Car Seats - Britax USA

Both are FAA certified as well if ever plan to travel.

I use the Marathon 70 from Britax for the lil guy and this one for the less little girl.

RadianR120 Car Seat, Convertible Booster Car Seats | Diono

The radian is quite nice and it's narrow in case you have to fit other stuff in the back with the baby. Cograts!!

hahahah thanks. It had to be done lmao. Thanks for all the car seat advice honestly i had read Recaro's were real good, just didnt know they were that highly rated. So I'm thinking on getting the Recaro once he/she outgrows the infant seat. Keyfit 30 is a very popular model so I might try that since babies R Us apparently lets you try them on the car if you leave your license at the desk.

just strap them in the seat belt because space is gonna be TIGHT!! lol my daughter is four and I cant wait for her to be in a booster seat already had to get protection for the back of my seats. luckily her mom is short and moves the seat up but if anyone else was sitting there they'd be screwed. As far as seats I have only had two the first one I fogot, but the one she currently uses is a safety 1st alpha omega elite, its a 3in1 and its great, I hate using the spares because they don't feel as great.

Yea she's short so that will help a lot with the fitment dept. I've noticed the lack of space in out back seats. It's almost like our cars were meant to be 2 seaters and they just added backseats last minute and pushed the trunk back. For now my car will be the usual driver of the baby until we can get her the CX-5 she wants. Gotta pay off a few things before that happens. I've read a few times that center is the best spot for baby so it seems like enough room between the seats..

yeah I know ppl that put them in the center, im not comfortable with that so I don't. I've been in the back seat accidents and those front seats gave me a black eye but saved life. So if something happened I rather her hit the seat than the windshield

Our back seats are not designed to have a seat in the middle if I remember correctly the center hump is too narrow to fit correctly.

Yeah we did the check through the manual yesterday and it's definetly not a good idea. Passenger side it is. By the way whoever recommended the latch system is a genius cause that rocks.
