The Great Ghes Thread

I came up with an idea where we can make a poll to point out what kind of gas everyone here uses and share our experiences. More than anything, I think it will help those of us who are getting tuned to get the best mix for their location based on input from other members.

Of course one must realize that each station maybe getting their gas from a different source, so that has to come into consideration... nevertheless, sharing knowledge never hurt and I am sure everyone wants to find out what gas provides for less KR when you start getting into the higher HP numbers...

Please list your state, gas vendor, octane rating, whether you are modded or not and if you are tuned - who's tune you have and of course your impressions... :)

My '10 GenPu (mods in sig) has been on 91 Shell in California from day one. However I am probably going to be swapping over to Chevron since I believe my 'Pu is disliking Shell gas with DJ's tune...

Lets get this going!

i8urgti 06-01-2011 10:15 PM

shell or sunoco
idk how you forgot that

PunjabiPlaya 06-01-2011 10:15 PM

my stock 2010 has been filled with every brand of 93 I believe: Valero, Chevron, Texaco, Exxon, Shell, Raceway, Walmart, Sams, HEB, Kroger, Citgo, Philips.

No problems after 33k so far.

And yes I understand that the only major difference is additives.

HLR Element 06-01-2011 10:16 PM

i think i get lower mpg on shell gas, not sure if it was a coincidence but for a few tanks it was that way, then i went to sunoco since it was cheaper.

pa, sunoco 93, no tune. Some times valero 93

also all the shell stations turned into vava or some crap now, dunno wtf happened there

mrFanel 06-01-2011 10:20 PM

BTW I do realize I did not put some stations... unfortunately the poll is limited to 10 options :(

2010Speed3 06-01-2011 10:21 PM

Texas
Shell (primarily)
93 Octane
Mods: SRI/TIP, catback, internals, stage 1 tune (modified), and more mods listed in signature

I'll put in some Sam's Club gas once in a while. The one close to my house is excellent and doesn't give me any noticeable knock.

mrFanel 06-01-2011 10:23 PM

Shell didn't give me any knock either with a stage 1 map... but once I started tuning with DJ it sometimes goes bananas.

dsmluck 06-01-2011 10:25 PM

Western.

E85/91 octane mix. Never knocks.

derek0609 06-02-2011 04:23 AM

Michigan
BP 93 with a few fill-ups of Speedway 92 and Mobil 93 (No issues with any)
K&N SRI

Wa state:
always: shell, chevron, conoco

emag remrofni 06-02-2011 06:30 AM

Shell and occasional no name shit gas. Neither one has ever given me problems.

rfinkle2 06-02-2011 06:43 AM

New Jersey:

I used shell 93 up until their nitrogen additive.

I was turned onto BP from an evo tuner a couple years ago, and only use BP.

My cars always seem to run smoother and idle better with BP.

silvapain 06-02-2011 07:01 AM

Illinois - I was only using 93 octane Shell or BP, but BP's here went to 92 octane premium, so now it's only Shell.

Fort Benning, GA area

My local BP stations changed to Shell after the whole "Oil Spill" thing... So I run everything and anything 93. No issues.

rodrigo 06-02-2011 07:37 AM

chevron...always

tragik 06-02-2011 07:38 AM

i use Hafners cause it's the cheapest, and cause i don't give a fuck.

nyghtryder 06-02-2011 08:28 AM

09 with 30k fully bolted on stock tune I've used sunoco 93 and rarely knock

Living in jersey

mrFanel 06-02-2011 10:58 AM

I wish we had Sunoco here in the Bay Area : (

MS33SM 06-02-2011 11:03 AM

If I have fuel perks I go to Giant Eagle.

Whats up with the nitrogen?

rfinkle2 06-02-2011 11:07 AM

I'm not sure, but I feel like after they started adding the nitrogen cleaning additive, I started to notice a rougher idle.

If your signature is an exhaustive list of your mods, you're not even close to "fully bolted". HID's and mirrors don't count.

Interesting. I have used nothing but v-power since I bought the car. I will have to give something else a shot and see how it reacts.

RodneyAE 06-02-2011 11:53 AM

93 pure Gas from a small local gas station. No Ethonhal. Way better gas mileage when you get away from the Ethonhol. It is normally a few cents less than the Shell station next door.

BLK_MS3 06-02-2011 12:16 PM

Always 93 from Shell or BP.

mrFanel 06-02-2011 01:26 PM

I hate all you fuckers who have 93

Why can't we get that here in CA :'(

Vansquish 06-02-2011 01:32 PM

During the school year when I'm in Indiana, I generally have been buying Kroger and/or Marathon gas because the ones near where I live are labeled as having 0% ethanol and they're relatively cheap.

I have been avoiding BP like the plague because I see knock when I use it in Indiana, AAAND...it's full of sulphurous additives that make my car smell like a freaking rotten egg whenever I use BP from Indiana.

Back in Michigan or Wisconsin (the other places where I spend my time), BP seems to be OK in this respect.

You must have not seen his turbo timer or mud flaps. Read the whole sig before you judge.

Oh, and Mobile 93 adds 13whp over Shell 93.

Spraying meth will solve any octane availbility issues you may have in CA.

Oh, shit. My bad.

bova 06-02-2011 01:48 PM

How is Sunoco not an option?

Only gas I really ever fill up on.

manelscout4life 06-02-2011 01:50 PM

How is BP camel piss?

Sig is very old guys. New sig rules only allow 3 lines so i havent changed it yet. Only thing im missing to being fully bolted is a new fp.

We have Arco here which is a subsidiary of BP I guess.

Why do I call it camel piss? A rather funny story - now mind you that before you read any further that this one a was time occurrence from an Arco station in the middle of nowhere here in CA.

When I was but a wee buck, we had an 89 Mazda MPV. We were driving from SoCal to NorCal and stopped at an Arco station to fill up before starting the final leg back home. About 15-20 miles after the fill up, my pops stated that the van felt sluggish, felt like it took more effort to get up to speed and it got progressively worse as he kept on driving. Eventually we got home and the 150 miles we drove ate about 3/4 of the tank... that van has a 20 gallon tank...

My pops, being a physical chemist, was certain there was something up with the gas so he siphoned a bit of it and went to test it at his lab. Lo' and behold - the shit was diluted with water. I don't remember the exact percentage but I am guessing it was not bad enough to fuck shit up but still bad enough to well, make the car run like pure shit.

Long story short - we avoid Arco like the plague here.

Stealth01 06-02-2011 05:00 PM

I have used Kroger (King Soopers), whatever crap AAFES buys, COSTCO, and Shell. Honestly, I got the worst mileage on the Shell gas, and I get the best all around performance on the Soopers gas.

You put every bolt-on and THEN you change your internals? The failboat is waiting for you

LMB77 06-02-2011 05:33 PM

PA.
Turkey Hill 93. Car pulls harder, its cheaper and I get better mpg's compared to Sunoco and Shell!

manelscout4life 06-02-2011 05:38 PM

Your stories too long. But bp is great

2k4_8 06-02-2011 05:41 PM

I'm using 91 octane premium that is ethanol free, have been using it since I found out about it in my Rx8. Noticed higher mileage using it and it's in line with any other gas station price wise. Get it from a local Sinclair station.

Just thought I would point out that water diluted fuel would be an issue with the station getting water in the tanks, not the fuel....just my .02 The tanks that they use should automatically separate any water from the fuel...but if they have a big problem then it may have gotten too much water in it

turbo test 06-02-2011 05:52 PM

i agree arco here in CA is some shitty ass gas i def stay away from that stuff,

i'm suprized so much people use shell i get the worst gas mileage with it and personaly think it makes my car run sluggish.

SoCal, 91 octane runnin ots map
Chevron or Mobil only
