gutted dp or catless?

I have good fuel pressure . always over 1600 at wot. I live in nj. so like the idea of looking like I have a cat. Can I just gut the stock down pipe? would I see any gains? or should I just get a replacment catless dp?

I do plan on a corksport top mount , ap , and hpfp .

Go catless. I have the EBAY 3" and it is a solid piece. And it makes the exhaust sound awesome. Less than $200. Highly recommend it.

I have been rocking the nator style downpipe for nearly a year with no problems.

I'm pretty sure any catless DP will give you CEL's on a Gen2. Gen1's can run catless all day and have no issues. According to the CS and UR, the gains are minimal (2-3 hp). Also, you don't have to deal with the smell. It is louder though, so if you like that, CEL's and the smell go for it. Otherwise, go catted (Cobb, cp-e, or UR...CS catted DP still triggers CEL).

You won't get a cel if you use the sparkplug non foulers for the rear O2 sensor. I have had a gutted stock downpipe on for nearly a year and have yet to get a cel with the non foulers in place. And no I'm not just defeating it with the AP.

I will eventually get a true downpipe though as it will be better flowing because of the larger diameter.

either option is cool

personally id go catless 3 inch

but if your on a budget...gut that shit...theres some serious gains to be had.

Don't gut it. You will eventually need it for inspection. I know NJ is like 4 or 5 years, but still. Also, when you sell the car, it will be hard to sell if you don't have a cat to go with it, and them shits are expensive, even used. You may be saving money now, but come later, you're fucked.

Catless FTW. If the CEL bothers you then you shouldn't be modding the car anyway. Catless is good because if you decide on running race gas later, you can.

im going gutted after internals.. I have oem cat from my gen1 laying around...i probably wouldn't do it if that wasn't the case..

I dont care about cel. I have an egr code from delete anyway. thanks for the info. I will just go catless dp. and save the factory dp for inspection
