Has anyone heard this sound?

So this sounds comes in when it feels like it. Could be right when I start cold or warm (operating) temps. When I get done driving. It goes away when I give it just a little gas.

In before asking if I searched. I searched throw out bearing, motor noise, motor sound, sound, several others but yes I search and didn't really find what I was looking for. So now I am making a thread to ask

:wtf:is this noise :)

thump.mp4 - YouTube

I know the ticking is normal.. but that "thump"?

leon78 03-12-2012 05:33 AM

You searched....ok....but did you read stickys?

Yours sounds like a royally fucked VVT....but on an 2012?..Wouldn’t be the first time.
You might get flamed...just saying.

rigor 03-12-2012 07:07 AM

good that sounds like shit!

do not drive!!!

cal for a tow to dealer

anavrinIV 03-12-2012 07:14 AM

vvt is only at cold startup, not constant. it's a 2012 so it's under warranty...take it to the dealer and have them fix it.

I did in fact read both of those.. I did in fact listen to that video several times. My sound, sounds nothing like that video. That sound is a high pitched sound. The one in my video is a thump for lack of better words. Still don't know how to explain it lol.

yea that video was taken after I drove 80 miles one way. So obviously the motor was a operating temps.

Think I will ask dealer today if they are mod friendly. I don't feel like taking on my SRI, and TIP just have something checked out.. I can and will take off the AP though, that is the easiest out of the lot.

Thanks guys. Still need some input or ideas.

rigor 03-12-2012 10:18 AM

meh your fucking nuts

its called a rod todo

ScarMS3 03-12-2012 10:25 AM

good luck, if your engine goes out they will most likely point to your mods if you dont at least pull them off.

rigor 03-12-2012 10:27 AM

Tokay444 03-12-2012 10:30 AM

I am not ignoring you. You simply screamed take it in. Can you please explain a little besides "rod todo" that wasn't in the quote either, so I guess you edited the post? Not trying to start anything just a simple cry for help lol. Several buddies didn't think it was VVT either. But i have NO clue what is it. If you have a great idea then please share :D

Raider 03-12-2012 10:36 AM

Remove every mod, even mounts, the dealer. Enjoy warranty.

rghispanic88 03-12-2012 10:38 AM

why dont you take it in and have THEM explain it to you? im sure its their responsability

rigor 03-12-2012 10:38 AM

It doesnt matter what it is. Stop trying to have us diagnose your problem on a 2012 vehicle with a shitty video pointing down at the turbo. Everyone here has given great suggestions. Here are mine.

1)Remove all aftermarket parts....if youre too lazy to take off a TIP or SRI to insure you get warrantied.....then you are dumb

2)Call the dealer, tell them the problem.......dont tell them you have been driving around like that.....because you are an idiot for doing so.

3)Have it towed to said dealer.....

4)Stop asking for suggestions and do what I say, why, because it is the smart thing to do.

5)Stop being so damn defensive.

just for shits I called the stealership to ask if they are mod friendly. in so many words he basically said no. He was like if the parts you have on the car directly relate to the cause of the probably if voids the warranty, then he kinda caught himself and said we can deny warranty work to that specific item...

sassyspeed3 03-12-2012 10:58 AM

Jason- just so you know, Penkhus is not mod friendly. They voided our warranty. SRI is ok, but everything else is a no go.

Pretty sure internals have nothing to do with that noise.

I wish lol.

@sassyspeed3 took her for a spin today. She came to the conclusion it may be ok. lol But I read through that link Disi linked to and kinda the same sound from brand new cars as well. Some thought it could be better tranny fluid is needed.

But I guess if it is motor or rod related I will know soon enough. I have all my stock parts ready to be stocked out if need be. Going to drive it this week and see if the sound gets worse. Which it comes and goes when it pleases.

sassyspeed3 03-12-2012 08:11 PM

lol, it is the same noise our genpu makes. don't freak out till the second gear goes out. :) can't wait to see the wife and you this weekend...:firedevil:

I am fully aware of what mods do to these motors. hence why I DO have internals. Just not installed yet. I have a SRI, TIP, RMM, and an AP installed. DP is here but not installed. I monitor my fuel every time I am in the car, been a steady 1650+ at WOT with those very same mods. @DISIindiahead has schooled me more then once on what I should monitor and look for when driving the car.

Now I don't claim to know barely anything about this platform. I am still new and STILL learning. Don't take my reply out of context. (which tends to happen a lot on this site) I have read A LOT on this site, stickies, others threads of blown motors, bad KMD's, no having tunes with a catless DP is like playing with fire... you will get burned without a tune, shit like that.

I have read, and been told I could run those mods that are installed pretty safe as long as I monitor my fuel.
