Help me out here!

i just recently bought my first 2010 ms3 and dont know much about them. it came with this corksport downpipe and doesnt have a cat on it. obviously it throws on the p0421 code and it has two bung holes for the secondary oxygen sensor, one is a half inch out and the other is an inch out. i tried switching the oxygen sensor to the longer hole in hopes the 02 sensor wouldnt see that much oxygen passing by it. i want to hear some opinions on what my next step should be, possible covering the secondary 02 sensor with tinfoil to keep that sensor from reading or should i just man up and buy the corksport downpipe with the high flow cat in it? let me know what you think or if you have any other ideas that worked for you guys

snailD 12-18-2012 07:48 PM

dont use the extended bung for the secondary, your car will try and compensate for its false readings unlike the gen 1 ms3. either get an AP and embrace no cats, or get a catted downpipe

atvfreek 12-18-2012 07:49 PM

Buy an accessport

Even if you bought a catted dp, it won't clean as well as the factory dp and it will still set the code

kdoughty00 12-18-2012 07:54 PM

where would i find an accessport, and would i put it on the smaller hole or extended one...hook me up with a website

is that similar to a test pipe?

oh boy....

do a google search for "autotech hpfp internals" and "cobb accessport mazdaspeed 3". buy both. donate. have NATOR do the dirty work. Then you're set. Without the 2 you're asking for lots of problems. And without NATOR you're fucked.

snailD 12-18-2012 07:59 PM

its a tuning device. it will turn off your check engine light. cobbtuning.com

kdoughty00 12-18-2012 08:07 PM

do i need both, the hpfp internals and the accessport tuner? or can i just stick with the tuner for now to get my sticker and then do the hpfp internals

kdoughty00 12-18-2012 08:17 PM

should i get this one COBB Tuning - MAZDASPEED AccessPORT

Jhornbrook 12-18-2012 08:25 PM

Yes that is the one. I would HIGHLY recommend both. I say HIGHLY because without the internals you will go boom. Noob helped for the day. Now I also recommend reading stickies and opening the welcome email to quickly and easily find answers without recieving anal rapage. But off your into the anal rape enjoy the fire you will eventually receive.

Sys7em1c 12-18-2012 08:25 PM

Yes, that is it.

Check the forum vendor area and you can get it for cheaper than Cobb's list price. Save a few bucks.

Dmurray06 12-18-2012 08:36 PM

Jesus you guys are getting soft.

kdoughty00 12-18-2012 08:42 PM

relax man im new at this shit...help a brother out. yea im aware that without nator im fucked hah

VegasMS3 12-18-2012 08:49 PM

Seriously dude, get the internals, 2nd gen is not very mod friendly without the internals. Should get the AP so you can monitor everything and later do tunes to improve performance.

Jhornbrook 12-18-2012 09:03 PM

We haven't even given you a hard time yet. Internals help to prevent your cylinder 3 rod wanting a little more breathing room. But like I said before prepare for rapage.

kdoughty00 12-18-2012 09:07 PM

my main concern right now its this check engine light because i need a sticker within this next week. this car may already have the hpfp internal, is there any way of telling besides tearing down

Hoyoman 12-18-2012 09:13 PM

To find out get ap to monitor fuel pressure or fuel cut or boom

kdoughty00 12-18-2012 09:17 PM

fair enough...what would normal fuel pressure be and what would the aftermarket internals produce? i'll probably throw the scan tool on it tomorrow and check it out

Really the best (and only) way to make 100% sure is to take the pump apart.

You should:

a) donate to see f/s section
b) buy ap for cheap
c) buy internals for cheap
d) hit up your nator people

kdoughty00 12-18-2012 09:44 PM

how do you have a catless dp and you dont have a CEL. thats what im aiming for!

Dmurray06 12-18-2012 09:53 PM

You can delete the codes with an AccessPort.

kdoughty00 12-18-2012 09:55 PM

so the ap deletes the code but keeps the emission readiness monitor on so it can pass inspection, unlike clearing the code on a scan tool that automatically fails the readiness monitor? am i understanding this right

Dmurray06 12-18-2012 09:59 PM

No...it unreadys the code or whatever. Depending on how strict your inspections are, it will most likely fail. Some states (from my understanding) allow one unready code, an still be ok. Just check your local guidelines.

Nope.

AP will set the monitor to not ready.

When I had to go for for my test I threw a couple non foulers on the second o2 sensor. I feel like it definitely affected my afr's, but I just took them out once I passed.

kdoughty00 12-18-2012 10:13 PM

i believe in massachusetts you have to have all monitors pass

hook me up with a link to get the one you got...i just have to toss it in and then drive for 2 drive cycles or whatever it is to clear the code then I'm good to go for a sticker?

i can just get non foulers at autozone right?

snOhio 12-19-2012 05:20 AM

i think you should find someone willing to let you borrow a stock DP so you can smog it and figure out if you have internals before you blow your car up.

In MA, you can have one not ready monitor.

You can get a defouler, but a gen2 will set a series for o2 sensor codes, and they will set a lot faster than that cat code. Either remove the DP or get an AP.

CtrlAlt1337 12-19-2012 08:07 AM

Holy shit, everything you need to know is on the forums. Do a god damn search and stop playing 20 questions. We've already "hooked a brother up" with letting you know what you need.

Raider 12-19-2012 08:19 AM

OK, I am gonna shut this shit down.

1) Call EdgeAutosport.com and get a dealon the AP and FP internals. They have the best internals, and thebest price on AP.
2) READ THE WELCOME PM.
3) Read all the links in the welcome pm and my sig.
4) Read the knowledgbase.
