He ended up getting in a nicely kept SC400

Only once did I get a random compliment, some guy driving a regular Subaru. I came out of Dunkin Donuts by my house after washing the car, and he was like thats a really nice looking car, what kind of car is it? I tell him its a Mazdaspeed 3. Hes like, a what? Who makes that. Figures, the only compliment I ever got was from a guy who didnt understand shit.

On a side note, my girl tells me on a daily basis, you do know youre driving a station wagon right?

EVOs, the lone MS6, and Si drivers tend to ignore me and cut me off all the time

Most other drivers on the road don't pay me too much attention except for riced up regular 3s. I did have a turbo VW Beetle messing with me the other day, no idea what this guy had done to it but it was surprisingly quick from a dig. Bout the gayest thing ever cause it was cream colored with a sunroof or soft top or whatever and he was hispanic with the wet-look wavy hair and probably lots of cologne. Damn Antonio Banderas moves out in his little beetle-bug haha.

My only comment so far was when I took the wife to a Kia dealer just to look around for her...wasn't really planning on buying anything. I park right in front of the doors in the only empty spot and a salesmen comes out right away. He goes "I hope your planning on trading that in." Later we are talking to him and he wanted to know more about the car. He goes "what year and type of Toyota is it?" I just laugh and tell mysef "that's why he works at a Kia dealership."

i once got on it leaving the restaurant/bar my girlfriend worked at...she was working the tiki bar outside talking to a couple buddies of mine and hears 2 old guys fighting over that "badass suv" that just "hauled ass outta there" and they couldn't agree on whether it was a buick or "one of those fancy fuckin crossover things"

it's usually easier and always more fun to just tell people it's slow and let them form their own opinion lol

i also actually get about 5 compliments a month, maybe more. but my car is all blacked out and lowered and whatnot so it stands out a bit...almost every time i'm with my buddy in his STI somebody compliments it lol. it's ridiculous.

I'm in Middle River and work in the Natty Boh Tower (O'Donnell St in Canton; I'm sure you know where that is, about 8 blocks from the infamous Drunken, I mean Canton Square lol).
So I don't get up that way much. I do have a friend that lives in Forest Hill and actually drive through Mtn Rd, Rte 1 intersection once or twice a week so you may see me eventually. My car just looks stock from the outside. I did notice another Black Mica running around down here near my work, near Highlandtown, but it didn't seem to be modified or special in any way (that's probably what people say about my car).

Us Speed owners, we straight up don't give a fu$k.

If you really think about it, if you really look at a Matrix FROM THE SIDE, it does look a lot like a Speed3. Something about the way the windows go back in like a wedge shape.

If you really think about it, if you really look at a Matrix FROM THE SIDE, it does look a lot like a Speed3. Something about the way the windows go back in like a wedge shape.

I know most people hate the pu cause of the creepy smile. But it grew on me, plus it tends to go by unnoticed by the coppers because it looks like a regular 3 to most people.

I actually like the style of the car, and I agree about going more or less unnoticed by the cops but I think it's cause minivan. Because sure we look a lot like a 2.5 hatch, but mostly like an extremely riced 2.5 hatch because of the hood scoop (which I don't mind because it's functional) and that damn useless wing. I've really come to resent that wing. I absolutely love the style and complete package of my car, but the wing mocks me because it's so out there but does nothing. And feels like I could break it off with my hands if I tried hard enough. May have to follow that one how to and put foam cord or something between it and the car so it doesn't move or rattle anymore. In all my searching through here I have yet to see a strengthener or stabilizer that I can install in there to stiffen it up like the bug-eye scoobies have for that giant monster wing they had a few years back.

Your wing rattles? I've had my 2012 up to an indicated 140mph (with PLENTY left to go, but either traffic or pussy i can't recall) and not a single rattle. I've never heard the wing rattle and are you sure it does nothing at 140mph? because RACECAR lol

The rattles I'm noticing and talking about are not so much at speed, there are many more things to listen to at speed than the wing (coincidentally, the drive home at 2a.m. last night after an 18 hour work day means the sound of 130mph with the windows down is an amazing, drowning out the radio at full blast). I'm more referring to it rattling over rough roads or when I close the hatch. I can wiggle it by hand more than I'm comfortable with.

check the bolts on the wing. usually they become loose. Mine was loose when it was rattling. I re-tightened them and its fine now

I promise if you get a turboback exhaust and get it tuned.....you will be turning alot more heads. I actually get complimented by a bunch of rednecks down here. These fuckers in their jacked up trucks try to race at stop lights and you put fucking 3 buses on them, then at the next stop light they say "That thang is fast, does it have a turbo, cuz i heard it whisslin".

I suppose it's possible that the bolts are loose. Would be loose from the factory since it's been this way from the day I bought it. It would make me feel a bit better if it were just loose bolts since the alternative would be that it's secured about as well as your normal ricer wing (The classic "Officer: 'Put your hands on the spoiler and spread your legs' Ricer: 'I can't it'll come off'"). If I'm disassembling enough to tighten the bolts, may as well put some foam cord or 3M tape in there too.

Sounds quite therapeutic to me. Its just so easy to go fast in this car its crazy, and the speed and wind is like therapy for the soul I swear to you, this car is better at high speeds than my 2002 Mustang GT was. That car came with 3.27 gears stock which put 4th at a max of 135mph. When I put 4.10s in it and also bolted on the timing adjuster, underdrive pulleys, intake, catted x-pipe, and catback (Magnaflow sounded so yummmy I must give it credit), 4th gear was then only good for about 110mph, and 5th was SO tall at that point that the car was out of its powerband and struggled to get past 135mph again. The MS3 simply loves these speeds above 100mph (I'm sure 160mph is possible in my car if not pussy); the engine has such a big, broad torque curve that you don't have to beat the shit out of it to go fast, and the chassis is so well planted that small to medium bumps don't upset it even at 140mph, inspiring lots of confidence, confidence I never had in the Mustang.

Incidentally I'm quite surprised at how well this thread took off. I never imagined it staying in the top ten threads for like a week at least now. So I guess the answer to "do you get the hey man, nice looking car" expression is yes, many people have. So I don't feel so odd now lol.
