I figured I’d share this story just because.
So I’ve been working on my front bumper a lot lately. When I originally bought the car, the dealer had painted the lower grill CWP to match the body, along with the wheels. I kind of dug it and got a great deal so I bought it. Flash forward almost two years and I’ve decided to go back to the original look of the black grill. So I order a replacement, have it shipped to work, take it home and 2 weeks later decide to replace it.

Pull the bumper off, pull the grill out, go to put the new one in, and realize it’s for a regular 3. I feel like such an idiot because I never cared to actually unwrap it and just trusted the company to send me the part as advertised (I know, right). The bumper is already off, the grill is already out, so I’m like screw it, I’ll just plasti-dip it for now. I run out to Home Depot in the wife’s car, get the stuff, plasti-dip it, and reinstall. During reinstall, I scraped the edges so it looked like complete crap. Long story short, I ordered a new, correct OEM grill and finally fully replaced it a few weeks later.

You still with me? Okay, so I decided it’s a good time to get tuned by @
Lex;. I’ve been sending him third gear logs but on the latest map revision he asks for 2 fourth gear pulls. It’s not easy to do this where I live because city. So I’m nervous but again, I say screw it, let’s do this. First pull, awesome. Let’s try it again. Second pull, I’m around 5500 rpm in fourth (I’ll leave speed to the imagination) and I hear this loud PSHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhh….
Holy crap, I broke my car. My heart’s pounding. I pull over and start checking couplers and anything else that may have come loose under pressure. No problems that I can see, so I’m like what the hell broke? I’m looking around the front of the car and notice my plastic undertray had split and that’s what was making the noise. I guess when I removed the bumper to replace the grill a million times, I was stressing it enough that it gave up at speed.
It could have been much worse, but it scared the shit out of me, so I figured I’d share.
