How do you warm up your car?

I know for tech users, the car will shut off if the smart key is not within 30 feet of the vehicle when being driven. Therefore, I just start and leave my car running to warm while the keys are in my pocket.

Never tried moving the car on my tech. I've walked away many a time, but never had anyone attempt and drive it while I still had the key. Good to know.

Also leaving the key in the car when off is a no no. Dealer already had to reset one of my keys cause the tech left the fob in the car while it was in the drive and the car disabled it.

i've had a spare key and fob in my car for months with no problems. i have a gen 1 tho

Are they both advanced fobs?

This is from my manual

Advanced Key Suspend Function If an advanced key is left in the vehicle, the functions of the advanced key left in the vehicle are temporarily suspended to prevent theft of the vehicle. The following are inoperable: Starting the engine using the push button start. Operating the request switches.

What you normally will do is hit lock/unlock on the key to restore functions, but it didn't work. In that situation you have to have your second advanced key in order to restore the first, so Dealer had to authorize another key to my system so it could renable my key. Took them all of 5 minutes really.

I warm mine up moving in below freezing temps. Idling for 10-15 minutes is a waste. I just take it easy until the engine warms up.

ill have to take a look. if thats posted in the manual then i may need to look into why my friend was able to do that. countless times ive started my car and ran back to my apartment. well over the 30ft limit

I start it up 30 mins prior to me leaving for work then i lock the car because there are a lot of black people in my neighborhood, then I call a locksmith. One of my best friends happens to be a locksmith so he is at my place by the time I have to leave for work.

I start my car and set the defrost, go back inside and make my lunch, then leave. My car is quite loud and at 5am, I'm sure I'll hear someone attempt to make off with it and stall it. I live in a quiet neighborhood so I'm not really worried about leaving it unlocked while I'm packing lunch inside

Wait, what? You do know how many cars have an auto stop/start feature now, right? That shit works seamlessly in cars that have it. Now, I'm not at all stating that one should switch off an MS3 at a stoplight - that would be dumb - but switching the car off when say, in line at the car wash or when immobilized in heavy traffic makes sense.

I hate the 'Go Buy a Prius' trope. It's fucking stupid and needs to go away. I've driven a Prius and while I don't want one, it is good at doing what it is meant to do.

Not happening, kiddies. I almost own my MS3 outright. Just a few more payments and then hopefully years of payment-free ownership. I open the garage door start the car and in the time it takes to put the seat belt on I am off. I have driven 3 vehicles to 250k never warmed any of them up. They warm up quicker off idle.

Wait for idle to die down to 1000-900 rpm, then drive around shifting by 3k rpm for 5 mins or so... Once warm, do a 3/4 throttle before going wot...
For some reason if I go WOT without any meaningful boost before hand I get epic knock on first run... But hit 15-16psi first, then WOT, and all good

Really the best thing to do is start it in a closed garage. With no ventilation it will warm up faster as the warm gases will stay close.

I start my car 20 mins before leaving anywhere. Lock the car with the emergency key fob then walk away. You do know that if you go to a Mazda dealership and get personalization features turned on one of them is the ability to lock the car with the key fob with the engine on. I've been too lazy to go and do it but just a thought for you. Otherwise get a remote starter. Im sure when you warm up your car its done in a min or two.

Not sure where you're getting that info but there is no such personalization option that I have seen in the manual(at least he 2012 Pu manual)

You can't lock the car with the fob while the motor is running but you can use the key to lock the door.

I just downloaded the 2013 manual as well to see if there was any difference and it is exactly the same as the 2012 when it comes to personalization options.

The first option listed for advanced key is - The funciton to automatically lock doors when leaving the vehicle while carrying the key can be activated - it comes deactivated and you can activate it. This works only if the car is not running. Meaning, turn car off, close the door and walk away and it locks the doors. If the car is running, and you close the door and walk away, the car will beep at you to let you know it's still running and the smart key is not within range(fyi I have it activated on my tech package).
