Default How fast is too fast

Not looking for lectures ... it was an open stretch of road! I was flogging the little fu**er mercilessly and it was still pulling ... even as I was going into the red in 6th. It appeared to be at about 263kms/hr. I wasn't really studying the tach or odometer at that point, it was a quick glance. I don't plan to do this on a daily basis but I'm a curious fellow by nature. I need to know just how fast it will go. So the question is, how far can I safely let it pull into the red? BTW, it felt solid even at that speed, no floating, no drifting. Impressed the hell out of me.

I've hit 160 racing an srt8 early in the morning. The car really did feel very stable for that speed as I've heard of other cars getting a little squirrely. I generally don't feel compelled to go that fast on a normal basis. A sprint to 120 is usually enough to get my kicks.

also , how do u tell u were going about 263 ? thats a pretty specific number to be eyeballing accurately at them speeds ....


any car that redlines a .790 ration 6th gonna need some serious hp if they are deep into the triple digits .

BTW, to those who have responded with calls of BS, not much I can say to that. I was of the impression that stock topped out at 158 mph. Despite my mods, I was suprised to see it pulling higher than that. I appreciate that without video to back me up I'm a sitting duck for the BS calls. That said, I'm hoping to try another few runs before it goes away for the winter and will attempt to catch some footage. I don't have any real camera gear that I can set up to capture it and have noticed that a second body in the car (potential camera holder/operator) really slows things down. I'll try just hanging a cell phone at an appropriate angle and hope for the best. I've only got about 12500 miles on the vehicle and it still seems to be getting quicker.

Oh, and for questions about the very specific "263kph", it was above 260 but only by a little. I guessed 263.

Re the flapping hood at high speeds, I left the original rubber seal under the scoop from the TMIC and that seal sits on the pipe going to the FMIC. I had to wrap a towel around it where the two meet to stop it from scuffing the pipe. That helps though the hood still has some noticeable movement that is more than a little disconcerting at high speeds.

I just did 140mph in a gen juan the other night, it was still pulling pretty well. I didn't see his dyno sheet but he claimed 350whp and that sounds about right for the pull it had. Car was bolted with a fmic and he said he tuned it himself with the access port. I wouldn't know about that. It surely was a 300whp plus car and It seemed to have the gear to do 170 looking at the tach at 140. However that'd be well into the red zone....

FYI- "Into the red" does not necessarily indicate that you've hit redline. The accuracy of the tach falls off the higher the ROM's go.

I say fuckit, prove people wrong and bounce that needle way into the red in 6th for a while. See what happens.

In the red is the best place to be right? The engine makes this cool sound rattle on mine ya know? What's the real red line in these 6500 on a genjuan and 6700 on the genpu? Idk why theyre differnt according to google. Anyways let me wrap this up with.
The genjuan will turn 6250 at 170 on a 26 inch tire. The pu 6125 with its ratios and a 26 inch tire. With that said the drag and frontal area plus 350whp at 5.5k 300whp at 6.2k should carry the car there. I'd say boost temps and a proper afr plus detonation will be the biggest concern to not popping a motor on these pulls. The bottom end should see less stress as power tapers off towards the redline. Afaik a k04 runs out of puff around 5.75k rpms at those power levels fully bolted. Or am I just spewing bullshit cause I don't own a speed. A built engine with the power could sling that hatch to be 180+. Scary fast for a street going hatch.

I backed off my pull when seeing bat around 160 and climbing. That concerned me. Car was still pulling and yes my tach is off by about 3-400rpm at rev limit

To add to that my 6 at 6k exactly is turning a touch under 5500 according to my scan gauge freakes everyone out when I let it dig well into the red zone.

Well, to all those who said I was way off on this ... you were right. My "glance" at the tach/speedometer must've been colored by my high-speed-adrenaline-crazed-state! I was convinced that I saw what I saw and to prove it arranged to borrow a buddy's gopro. We just got back from a logged and videoed run that shows me flat out ... and falling way short of what I had expected to see. I have no defence and must accept my fate. Let the abuse begin.

On the learning end of things, I'll never post anything again without double checking and video and/or log backup. Apologies to all.

Hit 155 going to Vegas one time... But it had lost all balls at that point. +1 to the poster who said stock ms3s have to try extra hard after 140 for top speed. I think after another half of a mile I might have gained another mph or 2 but that's about it.

Have not tested it since being modded and tuned now... But stock it was very impressive for a little 4 banger

* plenty of room on the tach too granted some extra ponies are thrown in!
