How to: Install fairing on Thule Areo Blades roof rack Forgive me if this doesn't belong here, but I see on a lot of forums people asking how to mount a fairing to their Thule roof rack with Aero Blades. Thule claims that the bars are quieter without a fairing hence the reason they don't make a mount kit. I personally like the look of a roof rack fairing, so I decided to figure out a way. Here is my solution. Here at the top we have the unmodified bracket that fits over the Thule Aero BAR. This does NOT fit the Aero BLADE. The bottom bracket shows where I cut. http://i.imgur.com/giHnKgBl.jpg Here is how the modified bracket looks on the front edge of the Aero Blade crossbar. Almost perfectly flush. http://i.imgur.com/FB0VvMNl.jpg I drilled 4, 1/4in holes through the top of the extrusion clear through the bottom. The holes are inside the top T channel so they are hidden under the rubber strip (see pictures below) http://i.imgur.com/eVjsGS6l.jpg Place 1-1/8in hex head bolt through top and out the bottom passing through the bottom of the modified bracket. http://i.imgur.com/9RWtHa0l.jpg Bottom view. Fasten with hex nut (not pictured) http://i.imgur.com/3euQ7yfl.jpg Push rubber strip back into channel. I used a razor blade to cut out notches where the bracket clips into the channel. Looks almost like it was designed that way from the factory. http://i.imgur.com/hnfjauNl.jpg Attach fairing brackets to cross bar brackets. http://i.imgur.com/q0NBYLWl.jpg Profit. http://i.imgur.com/YXBdeFwl.jpg |
Sorry for bringing this back but do you have more pictures of it on the car like this and pictures of it without the fairing after the modifications? |
