with $20 a pack of cigs and a soda here would leave about 7 dollars left over for gas. I switched over to vaping because 11 bucks for a pack of cigs is also insane, but that's a different thread lol.

Our grandkids are going to sit on our lap and we can tell them about the good ole days of $5.00 a gallon.

"Yes little Johnny you used to be able to get a whole gallon of gas for only five dollars"

"But grandpa what did you do with all your extra money?"

"Student loans Johnny. Student loans."

I fill up 1x a week, and get like 270 to the tank. 90% city driving.
I live 2 miles from work, but drive a lot more than that a day. hahhaa

Lol so true. I just hope it doesn't end up going something like this: "Instead of plugging our cars into the wall we had to put liquid in them called 'gasoline'. Our cars were loud and dirty and you had to shift your own gears, life was good."

I looked at a Nissan leaf, not to buy it came through the shop, but the charge door release was a gas pump with an electrical cord where the pump handle should be

I still remember as a kid watching the pump the first time gas went above $1/gal. It looked so weird to see the 'price' knobs rolling up faster than the 'gallon' knobs. Just another of those completely meaningless little nuggets you remember.

Skierdood 01-09-2014 10:34 AM

Haha I remember noticing the same thing! I just thought I was strange for paying attention to little things like that. I do know with gas in the $4/gal range the "stop the pump at an even dollar amount" game is actually a bit challenging now.

That makes me feel much better. Thank you.

Which part of the world is Canadia in? I'm only familiar with Canada.

I remember when I was younger going in to get a snack or something with the old man and coming back and the tank being full...now when I fill up if I go in, I come back I still gotta wait another $15 before I'm done

I'm just fucking with you. Gas may be more expensive, but you don't have to pay out your ass for a prescription. So there is that.

I pay between 3.10-3.20 for premium in Oklahoma. It's incredible, and probably why I aimlessly drive all the time.

No he doesn't, he just has to pay out the ass for his taxes so the government can buy his prescription for him and say here are your "free" medications. Fuck government run healthcare....:firedevil:

I suddenly feel old with all of these "I remember as a kid" posts, when I started driving gas was like 70 cents.....now I sound like my old man fml

I started driving in 2000. You know right when gas started climbing. It's my fault guys.

Hey, we're all just lucky my buddy wasn't right about peak oil happening back in 2002. He was convinced we'd be paying at least $15/gal by now and the economy would collapse.

And @El Beaner; you officially gave me one of those "why the fuck didn't I think of that" moments with your app screenshot. I'm still tracking my mileage with a notepad, shitty pen, and broken calculator. Idiot.

I used to do it that way, but smartphones have helped change that.

The app I use is called ACAR - I bought the pro version just cause I had free credit from google play but it's not really needed.

Skierdood 01-10-2014 07:36 AM

I've noticed with this car it's either feast or famine as far as gas milage goes. If I'm on a long highway trip 30-31 mpg is easily attainable. But the second you add traffic lights and variable speed driving into the equation I can drive with a light foot or a lead foot and continually see 21-25mpg.

This was a pretty boring tank. Mixed driving about 65/35 highway/surface roads

Second half definitely goes a lot quicker. Could be the shape of the tank or because the float can only go so high in the tank it reads full on the gauge before the tank is actually full. So you're essentially burning more fuel the first half giving the impression of it using less gas.

A lot of cars are that way. My Matrix XR was that way, would take forever on the 1st half, then 2nd would be gone with a quickness.
