Default HPFP Maintenance after storage?

I put the Pu away for a few months (Late Nov - March) and I was having a conversation and he suggested that I should open my HPFP up and lube er' up before I try starting my car. Told me horror stories of people almost blowing up their car after letting it sit for a very long time.

Has anyone heard of this? Do any of you that store their car for significant amount of time re-lube this part before starting it up? Just thinking if this is something we should be informing more people of because I had absolutely no idea I should be doing this.

I haven't heard about that either, but makes enough sense to me.

You'll change your oil, and lube the bpv when you get it out, why not lube up another thing? Can't hurt, that's for sure.

Well problem is the location of the stuff. I have it stored in this backwoods type place, there isn't really any tool benches or anything and to top it off, the storage facility is covered in gravel. I don't feel comfortable not getting dirty and crap in there if I took it off.

If it could stomach the drive home, it could get done. I'm just worried about the initial 15 miles to get her back to my garage. I mean bpv and oil change can wait that long to get done, but hpfp? I'd be real nervous about seizure.

Ah, I didn't think about that part of it.

I'm not sure, but I imagine a short ride should be fine. I believe the internals receive a decent amount of oil incidentally. At least IIRC from the full corn HPFP thread. It was/is thought to be a possible cause of black death I think.

Another idea is, you could quickly open the pump up there, oil the internals, then drive home and open them up again and clean and oil them again.

I'm not TERRIBLY worried about it since the last time it was opened up, it was insanely clean. No corn has been run through this baby yet (YET lol ).

Just feeling it out if anyone has had a problem with it in the past. I don't know the exact details of the occurrence I had heard about; just that he was in the middle of a build and let it sit for a long time. The car only has ~45k on it, so fairly new still.

I only mentioned corn because in that thread they discussed the oil that gets into the pump via the cam.

You should be fine, but I defer to anyone who has experienced issues because I haven;t stored this car yet.

Oh yes. I planned on cycling IG2 5 or 6 times just to make sure everything was primed up.

I mean, I have some friends who have stored their cars with just a stock fuel pump and they never mentioned having to re-oil the pump. Granted, take that with a grain of salt since I know with upgrading parts comes additional maintenance. But I can't see a short 15 mile drive is gonna hurt you...and to be honest since the pump cycles like a good 100+ times on start up anyway, I would think if you had a problem it'll be present on start up so if you got past that part, driving a short 15 miles trip shouldn't kill you.

This was my general thought as well. I definitely do not think it will hurt to lube it up even if there are no problems just to make sure. Though, I feel it gets lubed simply from running as well as was previously stated.

Like the others said I doubt it's an issue, but if you want to heir on the side of caution, you could probably easily just slide the pump out a bit and drip some oil on it without a full uninstall/install.
