Paranoia ... lol Did anybody else get a bit paranoid after they installed their internals? I didn't notice any difference in noise yesterday during my drive back home (about 70 miles) but honestly, I had my windows open the entire way. lol This morning I noticed a very subtle "rattle" - er, or as best as I can describe it .. the sound of a squirt gun hitting a window very far away. Very soft and barely audible... only during slow acceleration. Even a gentle "tap" of the throttle will generate the sound - steady throttle, no sound. I know, that upgraded internals are generally "noisy" compared to the stock internals and it was cold this morning (55 - yeah, that's cold here in CA, lol) and my AP tells me that they are working perfectly... nothing to worry about, but it still annoys me. :squareeyed: Anyhow, putting in the airbox today so I'll see if anything is loose. EDIT: found one of the bolts holding the TMIC cover on was very loose - probably the cause of the sound. Seems to be gone now, we'll see in the morning (it's hot as hell now). |
Hmm, I have this sound. Bone stock. Sounds a little bit like metal on metal for me. Similar sound during similar situations. Edit: Also when I hit bumps |

It's hard to describe - maybe a "muted" rattle like small stones in a tin can behind a door? I thought that that loose bolt on the TMIC cover I found and tightened would make it go away - no go... I can't reproduce the sound if there is no load on the engine. Like you said, it's always probably been there - just paranoia from the HPFP install. 100+ miles on it now, a couple of short wot runs and a 3rd gear MAF run and pressure is perfect. Car drives like a dream - I'll keep listening to see if it gets any louder, but so far it's only noticable if the windows are up and I'm driving like a granny (otherwise the intake and engine or wind noise drown it out). I'm putting a Sure Torq r3 in this weekend - but I doubt that will solve anything, or if there is anything to "solve" - probably just normal CDFP sounds. |
Internals can make noise. At the same time, as long as pressure doesn't drop, don't lose any sleep. |

Not sure if it just sounds like it, and is actually coming through the firewall.. but the noise, for me, sounds like it's coming in near my gauge cluster. Also when I change gears, even while cruising, is very audible. Sounds like it's going into gear very hard. I've tried numerous things to prevent it. It's not always, nor does it have a pattern. Kind of just random. PS: I shift perfectly fine lol. |
@jseams I JUST ordered my parts today (AP, Cobb SF intake with TIP, AT Internals, CNT catless DP, and CPE motor mount. I see you have similar mods. How much of a difference did you notice? Also planning on doing a res. delete! |
Your gains are going to depend on your tune - I'd recommend you contact one of the e-tuners here E-Tuners / Custom Hardparts - Mazdaspeed Forums You can also get involved with your local NATOR chapter for help... also, VIP has several perks - including access to cheap parts being sold by members - so the donate mod is recommended if you plan on hanging around for a bit. ... anyhow, with those mods you are set to enter "stage 2" and should be looking at anything but the OTS maps... but glad to see you have the AP and internals covered. Oh, and to answer your question - my butt dyno gives the difference two thumbs up... and you are doing a lot of modding all at once. You will notice a major difference - you are going to have fun. :headbang: |
