I have a catless DP, but still no internals installed

So besides from my car backfiring once in a while after shifting from 2nd to 3rd, my car runs perfectly fine. I am not saying this is an excuse not to get the internals, but for some reason I still havent gotten them. I am in Afghanistan right now with the Army, so when I get back I have a pretty big shopping cart for what I am getting and TOP OF THE LIST is the internals. What I am trying to ask here is, other then smooth driving and not noticing anything, could there be any internal damage done or damage anywhere to my motor by having the DP for a while now and not running the fuel pump internals?

Littlescroll 11-13-2012 11:25 PM

As I understand it, you're just driving a time bomb. If your fuel pump decides its done you could run lean almost any time and go boom.

Only takes 5 seconds to blow. Plenty of people been in your shoes, ask em how it worked out.

Yeah, thats what I have been told. I was unfortunately never on forums and never thought to go onto them until months after I installed my DP. I have had my DP on now for about a year and my internals will be going in in 2 months. Is it surprising I have gone this long with no problems?

Considering that I've heard of some fuel pumps crapping out with just a sri on the genpu, yeah. I'd say you're pretty fortunate.

Depends on of you have altitude on your side. Here at sea level I see an average of a 2.11 load being the max before the pump begins to lose pressure. If you want to be extremely safe.. Then just stick to 15-14 lbs with hardly any timing. Or just shoot for under 1.8 load.-> " in theory" extremely safe.

Keko 11-14-2012 12:26 AM

Wait.... so you have a full 3" catless exhaust with intake, FMIC, and stage 1 tune on stock internals... Holy shit

KevMS6 11-14-2012 12:45 AM

Sounds like you have had luck on your side considering how other people have got on... Once internals fitted you could safely increase power / get an E-tune :)

Dumyz 11-14-2012 01:01 AM

You are one lucky son of a bitch that's for sure. Get those in pronto, I'm surprised you lasted this long! Hahaha

proto05 11-14-2012 01:27 AM

You guys are awesome! I always love the help I can get from people! I know I have been blessed to not have any problems and still beat some LS1's hehe. Anyways, I have the internals coming ASAP then getting a solid Etune and should be good to go! :D
Any other recommendations? Should I get a tune up and see if there has been any damage to my motor or anywhere else due to using the stock fuel pump to long? How would I know if it is going or gone?

proto05 11-14-2012 01:43 AM

:ugh:Also, would it be more beneficial to get the CP-e entire fuel pump replacement since I have gone so long without the internals and a DP, or can I still just get the internals?

Stangcobra 11-14-2012 01:48 AM

you just need the internals and youre good to go, but dont drive the car until you get them
no need for a tune up

Keko 11-14-2012 09:56 AM

Internals didn't do any damage. The damage happens all at once when it's too late

Raider 11-14-2012 09:59 AM

For fuck sake.

pm @eric@edgeautosport; and get you some internals before you spew parts. Cold weather brings out the couch fucking.

EdgeAutosport.com 11-14-2012 09:59 AM

@proto05; we carry both the CPE pump and AT internals let me know when you are ready to purchase :)

This. You won't accumulate damage over time. If it runs lean @ wot you will go from fine to boom in just a few seconds.

jack_hammer 11-14-2012 10:45 AM

since you're in the military i'll go easy.

but seriously, baby the car until you get the internals. you can drive it, just don't go WOT. if you can't do that, then don't drive it.

internals vs a complete pump is really just a matter of preference. is it worth the extra money to skip cracking open your pump? be sure to consider the PITA it is to get your core refund from cpe. but if you're competent you can do the internals swap piece of cake.

now be smart and do the right thing.

deadlandxtreme 11-14-2012 10:50 AM

Lucky bastard. I didn't even make it 10 miles before exploding all over the road.

:boggled:I will take what all of you are saying like a grain of salt and be lucky nothing has happened to my car. It is being parked and not moving for the next two months till I get home and the internals are already being shipped to my house! After that = a sexy big turbo build!
